Debatead

Barack Obama's campaign is already out with an ad based on the vice presidential debate -- specifically, Sarah Palin's inability to defend John McCain's health care plan. The clip uses Joe Biden's line that the McCain-Palin health care plan is a "bridge to nowhere." Watch:

The Politico reports that the ad is part of a broader health-care focused strategy:

Obama's aides said the campaign would key in not on something Palin said, but rather on what she didn't: Her failure to offer a detailed defense of McCain's plan to finance a $5,000 healthcare tax credit by treating employers' healthcare payments as taxable - something Democrats relish hitting both as a "radical" healthcare scheme and a tax hike.

The campaign had already decided to attack McCain's healthcare plan, and the debate exchange will help drive that focus, they said.

"We're on a big offensive on John McCain's healthcare plan," said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe. "I think Sen. Biden did a terrific job today of describing why middle class families should fear John McCain's health care plan. She didn't answer the attack."

Palin's silence - she attacked Obama's plan as "government run," but didn't return to McCain's - was "a huge missed opportunity," Plouffe said, "because I will assure you this: Every voter in every battleground state is going to know that John McCain is taxing healthcare for the very first time. Twenty-one million people lose their healthcare because small businesses will drop it."

It's way past time to introduce the Keating Five to some uninformed voters. I'm sure a few of them have never heard the story. Let 'er rip!

In fact in my comments couple weeks ago, I brought out this issue. McCain at the time said that he used bad judgement (20 years ago). This from a man who was about 51 years old. He was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Since he had apologized, everyone should forget about it. If that is the case then why beat upon Pres. Clinton for all their woes. Everytime they get a chance for any ill conceived issue, they blame Clinton. Please all of you, bring out this Keating Five Savings and Loan SCANDAL.

When McCain goes negative, it will be time to re-educate Amerrica on John McCain's cozy relationship with Charles Keating and what the Keating 5 was all about. There is also the in indian gaming ties as well as his visit to that criminals yacht less than a year ago. I would also define for folks what a Teddy Roosevelt Republican is. McCain says he is, but he is not. Teddy was for universal health care and favored unions. Obama should send a simple message to McCain land that the gloves will come off if McCain goes too far with the smears.

I forgot to add killing the Boeing tanker deal which would put a French tanker in our fleet, his opposition to the VA bill because it would encourage people to leave the military after spending multiple tours in Iraq, and his record on women's rights.

I have been wondering when Obama will hit McCain with the Keating Five thing, I heard a pundit say he didn't want to do it but would later on if McCain came after him. This is the perfect time to do it since we are in the financial crisis. Looks to me the McCain would know what is coming and they would not be so negative but guess since they are so down in the polls they will do anything and hope for the best. After this election McCain's reputation will be ruined.

Good time for ads about some of her negative issues too! Let's Not hold back on either of them! Enough of the kid gloves, the gloves need to come off! She uses her sexuality, winking, smiling...please. But any move the Dems make its sexist! BS!!!!!

Obama should bring this about in the ads. That is a good place to start with. While on the subject, Palin's scandal also needs to be brought out, since she has been attacking Obama for the last couple days. Probably there is going to be an October surprise about the abuse of her power in Alaska. The report is due this week. Eagerly anticipating this.

Acorn is to disadvantaged what Christian Coalition is to GOP. 18 suspicious voter registration cards vs the hundreds of thousands these people signed up. Big deal.

Let's make more out of nonsense.

The only tactic McCain has is now we again beginning to attack the man but not with issues. Let's get something juicy on him like..wow he's married to a black woman and has black children.

The GOP caused their own mess, Bush caused his own mess, McCain caused his own mess. They've sold America for corporate greed.

"They've sold America for corporate greed."

The top recipient of donations from Freddie Mac are Sen. Dodd and Senator Obama. The only difference is it took Sen Dodd 9 years to accrue all his donations, but it took 0bama only 3-4 years....................... With the mortgage crises, with both FM and Fannie Mae, being at the bottom of the worthless bundled stocks sold on Wall St to all the global banking systems, how you consider McCain as causing this mess. The major recipient of Wall St bankers donations went to 0bama...........don't you know anything? Or do you just pick out the information that you think will help 0-s campaign?

GOP Angered At ACORN's Fouls
03 Oct 2008 04:55 pm

ACORN, the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, among many other things, employs people to register voters. It's a thankless job, and it doesn't pay much, and so ACORN hires a disproportionate amount of folks who can't jobs anywhere else, including felons. ACORN's staff facilitates the sending of registration cards to county election supervisors who are then supposed to judge their validity and flag fraudulent ones.

Republicans have a long bill of charges. They accuse ACORN of deliberately trying to inflate the voter roles at the last minute. .

Republicans point out that Barack Obama has worked with the group before (although he was never a member or employee) . ACORN works in urban areas and among the poor, so their advocacy benefits the Democratic Party.
Republcians point to charges, of ACORN's turning in hundreds, of not thousands, of fraudulent registrations and employing felons in states where it's illegal to do so for voter registration purposes.

Defenders of ACORN insist they're non-partisan, say that the group simply wants to make sure that as many eligible voters as possible vote
ACORN insists that it has a zero-tolerance policy for fraud and has notified prosecutors when it discovers bad behavior on behalf of its own employees.

. As a story, it's got race, class, politics and power going for it. Here's hoping we read more about ACORN pro, con and otherwise, before the election~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Marc Ambinder, the Atlantic

The banner headline of this thread confirms the penetration of Sarah's "Say it ain't so Joe" comment. Tides turning and you know it. What other explanation for the desparation on this site.

As for discredited comments here's a quotes from Barack here you go. HIS WORDS (and I'm not Charlie FOS Gibson these really are HIS WORDS):

On attacks in Pakistan

"There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will."

On meeting with the leaders of state sponsors of terror without preconditions:

Q: Would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea?

OBAMA: I WOULD. And the reason is this: the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them--which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration--is ridiculous. ... And I think that it is a disgrace that we have not spoken to them.

Wow, sounds like Barack endorses the Bush DoctrineS of unilateralism and pre-emption. Good for you Barack. But why now are you trying to divorce yourself from these comments?

"Say it ain't so Joe" that you LIED in the debate. You said Barack did not say he would meet these leaders without preconditions. Come on "Say it ain't so Joe."

Palin has no grace at all. She keeps parroting the talking points irrelevant to the questions asked. Her folksy mannersims, winking, twitching her nose may work for Alaska politics and Alaskans can interpret that to be cute and vote for her. The rest of the country is bigger than Alaska with a myriad ethnicity and these folksy mannerisms just portray her to be incompetent. Being a vice president needs certain amount of stature, personality, poise and intellect and PALIN does not have any of these characters.

Lots of things about the debate upset me. When Joe said drill, drill, drill (measuring his words) she comes back with the phrase drill baby drill - how stupid. We need to use all resources to make a difference. She could not admit it would take 7 to 10 years to reap any benefit from drilling.
Her lack of response to health care. I have to pay for my own benefits and it is killing my budget, what if any help am I going to get. I pay very high deductibles to lower my premiums.

The part of that story that scares me the most is other than tie breaking for the senate the sole responsibilty of the VP is to be ready to assume the Presidency if they are incapacitated or die. There is no way that anyone can realistically believe that she is qualified to be president.
Bill Maher has a segment about places you can move to if McCain is elected. It is supposed to be funny, but I think it may be reality.

This is a great idea to use this by the Obama campaign, but another big issue the Democrats have not been using hard enough is Social Security. If the Republican's had gotten their way 8 or 10 years ago and privatized Social Security, like they kept pushing while they were in control of Congress, this finacial collapse would have fallen right on the backs of Social Security recipients. People would have seen their benefits cut in half in order to stave off the wallstreet woes. The bailout would have most likely still have been needed, and it would have cost at least three times as much, and the situation with Social Security in the wallstreet financial mix would have made this crisis even more dire. The Republican's need to be pounded on this hard. John McCain helped not only push this privatization idea, but he voted for it more than once. Democrats should wake up, and make John McCain own this issue as well. This also ties him so directly to Bush and the other Bush Republicans that he will not be able to dance around it.

True if the seniors in this country had their SS money in the market, it would be a disaster, but the privatization of SS would exempt seniors, and I believe it was optional for younger participants. I only wish people would be honest in their criticisms.............SS privatization will never pass in the congress, but some form of option might someday!
