Debatead

Barack Obama's campaign is already out with an ad based on the vice presidential debate -- specifically, Sarah Palin's inability to defend John McCain's health care plan. The clip uses Joe Biden's line that the McCain-Palin health care plan is a "bridge to nowhere." Watch:

The Politico reports that the ad is part of a broader health-care focused strategy:

Obama's aides said the campaign would key in not on something Palin said, but rather on what she didn't: Her failure to offer a detailed defense of McCain's plan to finance a $5,000 healthcare tax credit by treating employers' healthcare payments as taxable - something Democrats relish hitting both as a "radical" healthcare scheme and a tax hike.

The campaign had already decided to attack McCain's healthcare plan, and the debate exchange will help drive that focus, they said.

"We're on a big offensive on John McCain's healthcare plan," said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe. "I think Sen. Biden did a terrific job today of describing why middle class families should fear John McCain's health care plan. She didn't answer the attack."

Palin's silence - she attacked Obama's plan as "government run," but didn't return to McCain's - was "a huge missed opportunity," Plouffe said, "because I will assure you this: Every voter in every battleground state is going to know that John McCain is taxing healthcare for the very first time. Twenty-one million people lose their healthcare because small businesses will drop it."

Perils of Palin.

Folksy?....... Folkish?....... hmm?..... I was really hoping for something a little more solidly burgeoise.
Could it be that the Restaurant at the End of the Universe is actually a greasy spoon. All the patrons, poorer versions of ourselves, eatin'-out in that truck stop down the road a piece. Sure could, Ya betcha!....... Ah!...... the joys of being held captive by the fortunes of the unwashed masses. Folksy is so fatally optimistic, one hardly knows what to say. Doggone it anyway, I was a'hopin' my golden years would at least allow martinis shaken, not stirred. Depressions are so declasse.

It is what we call posturing so she can be addressed as "Govenor" as per the pre-fight rules, therefore she can demean Senator Biden by reffering to him as if he was not a esteemed Senator

PALIN: Your plan is a white flag of surrender in Iraq and that is not what our troops need to hear today, that's for sure. And it's not what our nation needs to be able to count on.

Yet the McCain/Palin camp is surrendering in Michigan with a big white flag. Where's that maverick spirit now? McCain wants to do one thing and Palin wants to do another. She has no idea what McCain policies are. Now she wants to be an expert in the campaign.

I have a good feeling they will be surrendering more battlegroud states very soon.

I can't wait to see SNL and Letterman.

I posted a comment regarding this white flag of surrender in Iraq. However, I will repeat again.
McCain/Palin (he without her knowedge) threw in the WHITE TOWEL in Michigan. They jointly will be throwing in some more WHITE TOWELS in the battlegrounds pretty soon. Stay tuned.

Does it say anything about the collective intellect of Americans that some of us want to be led by Mr. 894 and Ms. 5 colleges for a B.A. ?

Certainly doesn't say much for higher education that not one single professor of hers at those five colleges tried to teach her how to speak properly.

McCain has a clear disdain for the articulate, well learned, well spoken and well read. Picking Palin brings him comfort and the ultimate jab at the educated. A substantive person would illuminate side by side that he is all about self-aggrandizing. McCain has a lot to prove; to himself and to his deceased foreparents who were admirals. Sadly McCain tried to become an admiral but was rejected, a failure. His comatose State of Arizona continues to revote him into the US Senate because they foolishly buy his beholden P.O.W. cries. Arizona may see the senate as an entitlement but the presidency will never be. He is clearly losing it and this pick highlights that he needs to retire. When Reagan was pressured to answer hard questions we realized albeit too late that he had Alzheimer. I watched McCain say on an interview that the presidency would be much better than admiral and then his face lit up when the interviewer said wouldn’t he vindicated? He replied affirmatively. He is intent on proving that the mediocre can still fake their way to the highest office in the land; after all George Bush did it. The American people were comatose for 4 years (2000-2004) but awoke to a tragedy. Never again will we allow this to happen. We will not turn our beloved country over to imbeciles and the intellectually apathetic devoid of any clear sense of thought beyond saber rattling: That’s clear strategy of the ultimate dunce.

Here's an idea for an Obama fundraiser.

Let's get someone to design, manufacture, and sell a "Chatty Sarah" doll. All proceeds go toward the Obama campaign. Here are a handful of one-liners that Sarah might speak when you pull her string:

"I'm Chatty Sarah. Pull my string, and I talk." (gotta have that one)

"Well bless their hearts"

"Darn right!"
"Aren't I folksy?"

"You betcha"

"Well shucks, doggone it"

"Thanks, but no thanks"

"I'm a pitbull with lipstick"

"Well, golly yes"

"Did I mention that I was in the PTA?"

"Newspapers? I read all of them...most of them...any of them"

Any others?

Palin won the debate because sadly people don't like smart people as their President.

Thinl of Al Gore and Bush. Gore had facts and figures about everything but Dubya cleared brush on his ranch.

I'm a Conservative and I wanted Romney because I do understand that the Republican party does not like smart people.

My point is Romney was too smart and he had to many facts and figures for the Republican party. They like it simple. If your a hero or a down home boy they don't care what you don't know. All they care about is if you are "plain spoken."

I'm especially appreciative of the ones he wrote after Hurricane Katrina which provides protections for victims of natural disaster. They used them after Hurricane Gustav and Ike this year. Living in South Florida we are extremely grateful. I watched a woman on tv said in New Orleans that if The Family Locator Registry wasn't available she wouldn't have evacuated. Nobody wants to be separated from their loved one. Just wish someone had done it before like immediately after hurricane Andrew hit Florida almost 2 decades ago. McCain was in office back then. These protections could have saved lives in New Orleans.

What I don't understand is that she is so scripted that she can't handle a simple question.
When asked what newspapers she read, she ducked the question by saying I read them all. Why couldn't she say; for one I read the Anchorage Daily News, it's in my office every day.
When asked about Supreme Court decisions, instead of going blank, why didn't she say Baker vs Exxon. A recent case that affected her state economically and which she commented on. She told the press at the time she was dissapppointed in the decision, but now she draws a blank on Supreme Court decisions?
She is either mindless, or in fear of making a mistake and falling out of favor with her handlers.

Oh man, the Obama camp missed a GOLDEN opportunity. Biden should have asked Palin what she thinks of Denali Kid Care up here. It's a medicaid based program that insures kids. not just Welfare kids, working families. Like a single parent making something ( not exactly sure ) like up to 45K. Anyway, it benefits a LOT of people and guess what? It's Government provided healthcare.

You know the difference between Denali Kid Care and my health plan ( I don't qualify with my income )? I pay a premium, have a deductible, routinely have to get pre approved and then appeal if turned down for meds prescribed by a liscensed DR. Denali Kid care- you'r kid gets sick, you take them to a DR., ANY DR. because they all take it, and you get the same treatment as anyone else except it's FREE. No joke. So she should have been asked if she's for abolishing that program.

Biden was restricted by the debate format that the McCain campaign pushed hard for.
Limited time for challengers. Not the same format of free-flow like the Presidential debates. McCain and co felt Gov Palin would be disadvantage??!!

But Sen Biden was able to speak of the windfall profits tax, Palin initiated for Alaskan's and hence her popularity with her State as each person receives approx 3,200 payout, this year.

The same windfall profits tax on Big Oil that Sen Obama has proposed and McCain derided.

The oil companies pay more taxes to the state of Alaska, they get to write that off against their federal tax obligation, leaving the rest of us to make up the shortfall.

I agree the format wasn't ideal. Since we cannot undo anything, let us bring this DENALI KID CARE to the forefront and debate about this on TV and in newspapers. We all pay for our medical insurance through our nose and the kids in Denali are the beneficiaries either directly or indirectly? How more outrageous can this be?
