I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Appearing on a friendlier news outlet, Gov. Sarah Palin said she was "annoyed" with the way Katie Couric handled their interview and complained that the CBS Evening News host failed to give her the opportunity to take a proverbial axe to Barack Obama.

In a portion of her sit-down with Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron, Palin claimed that Couric's questions -- which produced a series of staggeringly embarrassing responses -- put her in a lose-lose position.

"The Sarah Palin in those interviews was a little bit annoyed," she said. "It's like, man, no matter what you say, you are going to get clobbered. If you choose to answer a question, you are going to get clobbered on the answer. If you choose to try to pivot and go to another subject that you believe that Americans want to hear about, you get clobbered for that too."

For the record, Couric asked her, among other things, what type of news sources she turns to for information, which Supreme Court decisions she disagreed with, why Alaska's proximity to Russia gave her foreign policy experience, her opinion of the bailout package for Wall Street, and where she thought Vice President Dick Cheney erred. Which one of those questions was designed to trip her up (as opposed to, say, give viewers a better sense of her character and views) is tough to ascertain.

Later in her interview with Cameron, Palin offered a sense of what she thinks would have been a fairer set of questions. Unsurprisingly, they all would have provided her the opportunity to rail against Obama.

"In those Katie Couric interviews, I did feel that there were lot of things that she was missing in terms of an opportunity to ask what a VP candidate stands for, what the values are represented in our ticket. I wanted to talk about Barack Obama increasing taxes, which would lead to killing jobs. I wanted to talk about his proposal to increase government spending by another trillion dollars. Some of his comments that he's made about the war, that I think may, in my world, disqualify someone from consideration as the next commander in chief. Some of the comments that he has made about Afghanistan -- what we are doing there, supposedly just air raiding villages and killing civilians. That's reckless. I want to talk about things like that. So I guess I have to apologize for being a bit annoyed, but that's also an indication of being outside the Washington elite, outside of the media elite also. I just wanted to talk to Americans without the filter and let them know what we stand for."

PALIN UNFILTERED: A TREAT OF TORTURED SYNTAX
Palin's debate quote about terrorism and Iraq: "And as for who coined that central war on terror being in Iraq, it was the Gen. Petraeus and al Qaeda, both leaders there and it's probably the only thing that they're ever going to agree on, but that it was a central war on terror is in Iraq. You don't have to believe me or John McCain on that. I would believe Petraeus and the leader of al Qaeda." About the vice president's responsibilities: "Of course, we know what a vice president does. And that's not only to preside over the Senate and will take that position very seriously also. I'm thankful the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president if that vice president so chose to exert it in working with the Senate and making sure that we are supportive of the president's policies and making sure too that our president understands what our strengths are. "
Someone aught to keep her on a short leash.

The maverick who is told what to say (and mostly what not to say) and dutifully obeys.

what a maverick, redefining what was blatant cluelessness as annoyance without even making that discussable. nothing freaks me out more than a combination of ignorance + arrogance + power. i hope her ticket loses and that we won't see her again in future presidential elections. (she will make a come back. her ambition is obvious when you listen to her comments about the lack of power for the VP during the debate)

Wrote a story about what I'd do, were I given the opportunity to interview Sarah Palin. The two characters in the story, SP and me, begin at the dinosaur collection at the American Museum of Natural History and and end up at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. It follows the trajectory that I wish journalists and interviewers would take on w/ more rigor than they do. Understandably, the future of science education in our country is not the most driving issue on peoples minds now, nor will it be this November. As someone who loves science, however, and wishes to preserve its integrity I was inspired to create how this imaginary interview between Sarah Palin and me would go. http://www.susannaspeier.com/blog/

The purpose of an interview is to answer questions. If she wanted to rehash the same untrue talking points, she should call a press conference or stick with Faux News.

Pitbulls are not noted for their discrimination and thoughtfulness. They are generally viewed as attack dogs. This makes having positive social interactions difficult.

Newsflash! It's actually possible that someone was annoyed by Katie Couric. Everybody likes Katie.

Darn right Sarah Palin should be annoyed with Katie Couric. After all, they were both journalism majors, but Katie's success is what Palin failed to achieve. Fortunately, our friend, Peter Principle, has allowed her to become the GOP VP candidate.
Sarah Palin should also be annoyed that her smiles and winks were ineffective on Katie. What use are good looks if you can't flirt your way out of a hole?

True, flirts don't work on professional women as often as they work on men. Maybe that's why mostly female juries are more likely to convict a female criminal than mostly male juries.

It's a shame that Governor Sarah Palin does not take the responsibility for her mishaps during recent interview. Katie Couric did not make Palin look bad, Palin made her self look bad. The questions that were asked were very simple and they were not "gotcha" questions. Palin would have done better admitting to be nervous and/or unprepared for those interviews. Perhaps, her die-hard(and uninformed) fans will believe her excuse. This woman is pathetic and should not have been selected as a vice presidential candidate.

Instead of writing such silly lines as "verbal vomit", why don't you tell us why you disagree with what was written. I would have to say 'yes' you are uninformed in that you couldn't write anything better than that silliness.

I guess Palin needs to stick to the most conservatively biased news organization to "get her points across". They may not ask her the hard questions... like her foreign policy experience.

I hope McCain is kicking himself... Can we please talk about his judgement here! And what "maverick" really means... which at this point is just stubborn old man.
