Brian Williams On The Late Show: "I'm A Maverick, And I May Not Answer The Questions Tonight"

Friday night on the Late Show, it was a meeting of the two most prominent media personalities spurned by the McCain campaign -- Brian Williams and David Letterman.

Neither man is terribly happy about being rejected by McCain-land, but they both manage to maintain their sense of humor. Here's video:

Earlier in the show, Letterman had a number of zingers from McCain in his monologue. This one jumped out at me:

John McCain loved Palin's debate performance. Matter of fact, he applauded so much, all the lights in his home kept on going on and off.

The free press is in crisis. They are either so partisan they are completely ignored by people on the other side. Or, they defend both sides regardless of how absurd the talking points are. America needs journalists who have unquestionable ethics and objectivity and speak the truth about both sides. As news has been transformed into entertainment, America loses.

This clip doesn't show the whole interview, but I was angered by what an apologist Brian Williams was for Sarah Palin. He made so many excuses for her stupidity, and notice he doesn't even smile when Letterman makes fun of her. Do you suppose he did that just so he would be granted an interview with her? What a smug, self-satisfied sellout! I'll never watch his evening news again.

Brian is a republicans and you can tell by his remarks which he thinks he is cute witted....If there was ever an elitist news person , Brian fits the profile...
Any and every time Brian appears on any news media or TV show I change the channel as quick as possible...

Palin and McCain are actually working against each other. Palin knows the McCain ticket is done so she is grandstanding and looking out for her future. McCain knows he's made a mistake in selecting Palin so he is letting her run loose so that once the election is over he can blame Palin while Palin blames him. what a mess. I hope they both leave the national scene for a long, long time. Alaska can have Palin. God bless them. I only hope Arizona will see fit to call McCain home for good.

Thank you for posting this link to The Guardian's brilliant summation of Sara Palin in "Flirting Her Way to Victory". Amazing how it accurately described Ms Palin as "the adorable, preposterous vice-presidential candidate", noting the "attempt to flirt" her "way into the good graces of the voting public", her "surreal disregard for the subjects she was supposed to be discussing" and her "attractive vapidity". Entertaining and spot on !!

For those of you who citicize Brian Williams for not being more critical of Palin's debate performance or of her in general, keep in mind that network news is trouble and continuallys loses viewers (revenue) to other sources and can't afford to lost any more. Brian is just doing what he should for his position to not aleinate any viewers with comments. With someone in his position, his image off camera is part of his job.

Tom Brokaw on the other hand whom he replaced, is obviously a McCain supporter but didn't make this know until after he retired from NBC. Though still not a good idea, he is freer now to express his personal opinions.

Btw...I've seen Brian Williams now on several shows including SNL and I find him to be very funny and witty...not just a news celebrity trying to be funny.

Tired of bias and the way the networks have hand-picked the "moderators" that are Republican flunkees/hacks.

Leave it to the Brits to spell it out for what it really is. I sent this link to Christiane Amanpour after listening to her praise Palin's debate performance on Real Time. Bill Maher's rebuttal to Amanpour was weak. So I tossed this link into the CNN contact page for the famous journalist to read -- doubt she'll get it. None the less if you feel ambitious send it off to as many TV journalists as you can. It's VERY sobering.

Dave has exactly the same theory that I did about Palin's "can I call you Joe?" setup. She set him up to drop that line, which the McCain camp hoped would be her 'zinger one liner' that would be played over and over in the news cycle.

Brian Williams comes off as a boring, lackluster, no-opinion a** kisser.
