I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Friday night on the Late Show, it was a meeting of the two most prominent media personalities spurned by the McCain campaign -- Brian Williams and David Letterman.

Neither man is terribly happy about being rejected by McCain-land, but they both manage to maintain their sense of humor. Here's video:

Earlier in the show, Letterman had a number of zingers from McCain in his monologue. This one jumped out at me:

John McCain loved Palin's debate performance. Matter of fact, he applauded so much, all the lights in his home kept on going on and off.

A beginner in the WH is what we've had for the last 8 years. A self-proclaimed non-Washington insider is exactly what GW asserted in his first debate 8 long years ago and we all know how well that turned out...

I didn't get to see this -- thanks for posting it here. Williams is smart and classy. And though I loved the way he opened the discussion with "I'm a maverick ...", I don't think that will get him the interview with Palin. I could see the McCain-Palin camp whining that he's biased.

And, the thugs at FOX aren't?!

He obviously surmised he wasn't going to get the interview anyway. Palin has to pay a price for avoiding interviews, and this was the first installment.

Just when you thought comedy on TV was dead, we have an election.

I'm not the biggest fan of Brian Williams, but he at least recognized for the moment that as a journalist he couldn't put his own opinion out onto the airwaves. Even if he had an ulterior motive in hoping that he might still get a Palin interview. Nobody from Fox could have pulled that off.

McCain has nowhere to go now but down. He can run away from President Bush, but he can't run away from the Republican Party. The Republicans will be regarded from now on as "the party that wrecked America." Over the weeks ahead, as carnage in the economy and the financial markets ramps up, it will become increasingly clear. It is important that this meme be spread through the internet. I urge all commentators to adopt and spread the idea that the Republicans are "the party that wrecked America." It will work because it is the truth. Use it freely.
