I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Friday night on the Late Show, it was a meeting of the two most prominent media personalities spurned by the McCain campaign -- Brian Williams and David Letterman.

Neither man is terribly happy about being rejected by McCain-land, but they both manage to maintain their sense of humor. Here's video:

Earlier in the show, Letterman had a number of zingers from McCain in his monologue. This one jumped out at me:

John McCain loved Palin's debate performance. Matter of fact, he applauded so much, all the lights in his home kept on going on and off.

Fascinating that Letterman nailed why SP asked JB if she could call him "Joe." I thought that was weird. Yes, obviously, it was to set up the "Say it ain't so, Joe." line. That was it.

What JMcC likes to call his wife, that's what SP is.

SP is a disingenuous catty bioch. I loved how she stared at the camera rather than talk to anyone in the room. Winking at the boy as that kind of girl does.

No way I would ever consider Letterman anything remotely close to a lefiist, Hardly, given his platform of mainsteam comedy, not to mention Williams' even larger paddle in the muck. None the less, he is brilliant in his ready assessment of culture and celebrity and he knows a political hack when he sees one. Good for him that he can enjoin the farce of this last debate, pitting a person of integrity with a life of experience in governance against a lightweight from the far (far) west who’s credentials have more to do with her religious notions than anything to do with government and how it might work to serve the nation and ALL of its citizens. What a sham this debate, and an insult to anyone with half a brain. This country is so nearly over and yet most of us refuse to recognize the emergencies at hand. Wake the Fup Merka!

Did you see the interview? Mr. Williams reminded viewers that when 9/11 was fresh, Bush was airborn and Cheney as VP was locked down in a "war room" with his ability to direct military actions. Is this where we would want Palin if something should happen in the future?????

I never thought of it that way. Another scary thought. This is another example that needs to come out about SP.

The only Mavericks I knew was a TV show (IN RE_RUNS) about a card shark hustler, and the other was a crappy car that did FORD no good......any other examples.....

Yes, the one from Top Gun who came in second to Iceman... Hmm... I think that should be Obama's handle. Iceman, cause the guy has stayed cool under all of McCain's fire.

Read the definition of maverick in the dictionary--motherless calf. So, I guess McCain/Palin are a couple of baby bovines.

Brian nailed it with this one statement, "Another way of looking at it is, it is Sept 11, 2001 The president is airborn....the vice president has taken hold of the machinery of govt...."

Nuf said.

So scary, I will be spending everyday through election at our campaign office doing everything I can to keep this woman out of the white house. I do not want to wake up Nov 5th saying "What if" or "What could I have done." Donating is not enough, we have got to get out and canvass our neighborhoods, man phonebanks, get people to the polls and talk to undeciders. Afte laughing through the monologue, if fear doesn't set in on you, then you are too complacent, which is just as scary.

Palin is a cheerleader - they let her look at the playbook and she thinks she can be quarterback. ..................

Letterman hit the mail on the head when he evoked the memory of Dick Cheney 's key role as 9/11 was unfolding.

I wouldn't want to trust the fate of myself and my family to Sarah Palin during a terrorist attack.

I'm wondering if any of the "Joe Sixpack"-type viewers are being influenced by this ongoing Letterman feud. Does anyone have any sources or articles that discuss whether there's an any impact or not?

Just wondering as previous studies have shown that viewers of late-night shows know more about the background of presidential candidates and their positions on issues than people who don't watch late-night TV. They also tend to be higher than those who read newspapers or watch network news four days a week. Many people think that late-night TV viewers are apolitical and thus the feud has no impact, but previous studies seem to indicate that's not true. I know that the demographics for the Daily Show make it probably more likely that its audiences are even more in tune than traditional late-night shows.
