Brian Williams On The Late Show: "I'm A Maverick, And I May Not Answer The Questions Tonight"

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Friday night on the Late Show, it was a meeting of the two most prominent media personalities spurned by the McCain campaign -- Brian Williams and David Letterman.

Neither man is terribly happy about being rejected by McCain-land, but they both manage to maintain their sense of humor. Here's video:

Earlier in the show, Letterman had a number of zingers from McCain in his monologue. This one jumped out at me:

John McCain loved Palin's debate performance. Matter of fact, he applauded so much, all the lights in his home kept on going on and off.

Who ever thought David Letterman could be so insightful? But, on election day we either decide for folksy, pretty, former beauty queen, the ole soccer Mom--and I WISH it was refreshing but, I prefer refreshing to be open-minded, allows women to decide to do what they want with their bodies, who isn't a part of the NRA, who isn't being used to get a 72 year old "maverick" and war-bent POW who'll "bomb bomb bomb" Iran -- McCain's words in a video during one of his appearances, joking about how he'll take care of Iran (who have nuclear weapons). And Sarah Palin accused Barack of wanting to wave the white flag of surrender (great line given to her to remember)--when Barack wants to REASON with our enemies FIRST. No, Barack isn't against defending this country, but what is wrong with a president who wants to try PEACE as a first resort? A president who voted no on this war and will responsibly bring our men and women home. Plus! Provide them free quality healthcare. People! Wake up and close your eyes when Palin speaks--try that!

I was doing registration this morning and some people came by and said we should start a rumor that the way to vote for Mc was to write in "maverick". Sad part is, some one may actually believe it and do it.

Think about it. If somebody actually does do that, they probably shouldn't be voting in the first place. Jeez . . . can we do a civics literacy and basic intelligence test before we let people near a ballot? No, but sometimes it seems like it would be nice.

I love it when people mock that whole "maverick" thing.

Mavericks don't call themselves mavericks. That's rule one. So McCain/Palin? Not Mavericks.

"Maverics don't call themselves mavericks". Brilliant line.

Obama doesn't call himself the smartest person in the room, he just is.

Brian Williams hit the nail on the head! "I'm a maverick and I will do as I please".

Dave's doubts about McCain's being a change agent brings to mind a question that should be asked whenever the change mantra is trotted out: If Washington's such a cesspool of corruption, why are you so adamant about going there and running things? And if it's because you want to change things, state the five specific things your administration will do immediately on being sworn in.

Ya, my granddaddy just said a Maverick was a unbranded range cow, and wondered if palin was calling her/mccains cows! Their also strays, and Palin/Mccain think they are loners? Go it all alone do they?

your grand father is correct. That's where the term "maverick" comes from. Some man who didn't brand his cattle. How strange.

Dave spent alot of time bashing NBC the whole time he was there and even after he left.

Now, he has folks from NBC as guests on his show all the time.

I guess they fit his far left leanings better than people from CBS.

Whatever. And when you get your show, you can do whatever you please.
It's a comedy/variety show, if you don't like his guests or political leanings, change the channel.

"A maverick is an unbranded range animal, especially a motherless calf;"(Wikipedia). Hmmm. Does that mean that Sarah Palin is a cow?

We don't want everyone we like in the office of the president or vice president. First and foremost they should be qualified.

And when did being smart and educated at eminent school become a liability for the highest office in the land. Our culture is rotting.

Ignorance is Strength -- I first learned that being smart and educated is a liability in 1984.

When access to education and opportunities for economically downscale members of our society to attend eminent schools became more widespread. Also when said educated types started advocating for more social and economic justice for ALL members of society, and not just those born on "third base".
