John McCain and his Republican allies are "readying a newly aggressive assault on Sen. Barack Obama's character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat's judgment, honesty and personal associations," several top Republicans told the Washington Post.

With just a month to go until Election Day, McCain's team has decided that its emphasis on the senator's biography as a war hero, experienced lawmaker and straight-talking maverick is insufficient to close a growing gap with Obama. The Arizonan's campaign is also eager to move the conversation away from the economy, an issue that strongly favors Obama and has helped him to a lead in many recent polls.

"We're going to get a little tougher," a senior Republican operative said, indicating that a fresh batch of television ads is coming. "We've got to question this guy's associations. Very soon. There's no question that we have to change the subject here," said the operative, who was not authorized to discuss strategy and spoke on the condition of anonymity. [...]

Moments after the House of Representatives approved a bailout package for Wall Street on Friday afternoon, the McCain campaign released a television ad that challenges Obama's honesty and asks, "Who is Barack Obama?" The ad alleges that "Senator Obama voted 94 times for higher taxes. Ninety-four times. He's not truthful on taxes." The charge that Obama voted 94 times for higher taxes has been called misleading by independent fact-checkers, who have noted that the majority of those votes were on nonbinding budget resolutions.

A senior campaign official called the ad "just the beginning" of commercials that will "strike the new tone" in the campaign's final days. The official said the "aggressive tone" will center on the question of "whether this guy is ready to be president."

The Obama campaign painted the Post story as evidence that the McCain campaign is trying to disregard the country's serious economic challenges in favor of personal attacks on Obama:

"On a day after we learned that America lost three-quarters of a million jobs this year and a week after our financial system teetered on the brink of collapse, John McCain and his campaign have announced that they want to 'turn the page' on the economic crisis facing working families and spend the last month of this election launching dishonest, dishonorable character attacks against Barack Obama. We understand that it's not easy for John McCain to defend the worst economic record of our lifetime, but he will have to explain to the people struggling to pay their bills and stay in their homes why he would rather spend his time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy," said Obama-Biden Spokesman Bill Burton.

Obama's team also released this web ad hammering McCain over the new job loss numbers:

OBAMA'S FAILED JUDGEMENT

Published: September 11, 2001

”I don’t regret setting bombs,” Bill Ayers said. ”I feel we didn’t do enough.” Mr. Ayers, who spent the 1970’s as a fugitive in the Weather Underground... has written a book, ”Fugitive Days” Mr. Ayers, who is 56, ... writes that he participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, of the Capitol building in 1971, the Pentagon in 1972..."

And living in Hawaii...about 5,000 miles from Chicago. Oh, and Jander? If Ayers is such a master terrorist, why isn't he lying in a Federal paupers grave next to Timothy McVeigh and john Gotti? Or imprisoned in the missle silo turned Federal supermax prison in Florence, Colorado? Truthfully, I think Professor Ayers should sue every last one of you who defame his character in Civil Court...and I also suggest you explain to me what's worse...blowing up the horrendously racist 1970's NYPD precincts ( I know how bad it was, I was growing up there, getting beaten up by cops....remember Louima? ) or imprisoning CHILDREN UNDER 18 IN DOG KENNEL CAGES IN GITMO FOR 5 OR 6 YEARS. By all means, tell me which is worse...striking out at the "establishment" drafting our kids to go to southeast Asia to kill indiginous peoples because we don't like their Governmental system...or invading a sovereign nation like Iraq AND HANGING IT'S PRESIDENT FROM A DIRTY ROPE. That's an open question to Rove, Cheney, Bush, Hanoi John, Hannity, and all you Jingoist Palinites....which is worse?

So....Obama's failed judgement is moving to a city where a "terrorist" college professor lives, and representing him as an American citizen/constituent...as he is beholden under State/Federal Senatorial law to do, is in some way a "failed" judgement? Then I personally applaud him for his failures....bravo.

Here comes a Swiftee. Believe our next prez of the USA was not much more than 12 years old when he bumped into this man.
Try again.
John Kerry was allowed to drown under similar filthy attacks on his character. Attacks made by people who never even served on the same boat.
Obama has a a good counter attack team. However, he's shown a fantastic ability to stand on his own two feet against these cowardly attacks.
This is the type of president the USA needs. Someone who can brush aside all this crap, and meet one on one with all world leaders.

History Lesson:
McCain means Son of Cain who is Enoch, but don't confuse him with the good Enoch as there are two Enochs in the bible.
Enoch from Cain's Line- not much to say beyond what the scriptures record, but we do know that this Enoch continued Cain's rebellion against God. We read of nothing good coming from this line. He engaged in the same wickedness as the haters of God He must cringed when the other Enoch preached the message of God. Enoch, Cain's son, represents all those who rebel against God, this includes the hypocrite too.

Enoch from Seth's Line- is included on the role of honour in Hebrews 11, therefore his life of faith can instruct us how we should live for the Lord. He was a preacher and was loved by God.

"We're going to get a little tougher" translates to, "We're going to ratchet up the lies, 'cause it's all we've got!"

I don't give a crap who ran around with who or what someone did 30 years ago - I care about NOW and the future. In other words, I care about the issues pulling this country down and what each candidate is going to do about fixing them. Obama is looking to the future but McCain seems mired in the past and has visible problems with anger issues. McCain can be as dirty a campaigner as he want to be; it won't change my mind.

Exactly...

"There ya go again, Joe, lookin' back...." I thought that they didn't want to look back. So, why the change?

Oh, wait, I get it - because it suits their purpose. They are such losers. If they win this election, I'll know it's been rigged.

Reality Check Sarah Palin. If we don't "look back" and learn from the mistakes that have been made that we enabled, how do we move forward? Gosh that's something I learned in first grade.

"If Palin is going to say this, it is now perfectly legitimate to point out that she repeatedly courted a secessionist group founded by someone who openly professed hatred of the American government, cursed our flag, and wanted to secede from the Union. Sarah's husband, Todd Palin, was a member of this group, which continues to venerate that founder to this day, for years."

Interesting story about McCain with US Govt. FOIA documents attatched..

Research support provided by the Investigative Fund of The Nation Institute. This is an expanded version, with primary documents attached, of a story that appears in the October 6, 2008 issue of The Nation.

It's not clear whether the taped confession McCain gave to his captors to avoid further torture has played a role in his post-war behavior in the Senate. That confession was played endlessly over the prison loudspeaker system at Hoa Lo—to try to break down other prisoners—and was broadcast over Hanoi's state radio. Reportedly, he confessed to being a war criminal who had bombed civilian targets. The Pentagon has a copy of the confession but will not release it. Also, no outsider I know of has ever seen a non-redacted copy of the debriefing of McCain when he returned from captivity, which is classified but could be made public by McCain. (See the Pentagon's rejection of my attempt to obtain records of this debriefing, at left.)

So it is wrong to live in a neighborhood with a 1960's anti-war radical, who is now a college professor. But it is OK to have a uneducated husband who "belonged" to a separtist party until you were elected mayor. Did you ever hear the term "sleeping with the enemy" ?

Had William Ayers been a Republican, they would have said that he had repented and is not doing God's work by helping others with the foundation for the needy.
