Karzai Brother

New York Times:

When Afghan security forces found an enormous cache of heroin hidden beneath concrete blocks in a tractor-trailer outside Kandahar in 2004, the local Afghan commander quickly impounded the truck and notified his boss.

Before long, the commander, Habibullah Jan, received a telephone call from Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of President Hamid Karzai, asking him to release the vehicle and the drugs, Mr. Jan later told American investigators, according to notes from the debriefing obtained by The New York Times. He said he complied after getting a phone call from an aide to President Karzai directing him to release the truck.

And this is a surprise because????

And what do you want to bet that many of the folks we are fighting and are called Taliban are actually opium growers and heroin traffickers? Protecting their investments.

There is WAY too much money to be made.

And Bush/Cheney are absolute fools. On SO MANY levels.

Unfortunately too true.

American forces in Afghanistan have been able to do little to stanch the heroin trade in that country and given the nature of the regimes of the nations in the region it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that the Afghan government is getting a cut of the proceeds from the drug trade.

But I would also say that anyone in the U.S. who is using that crap is engaging in a traitorous act. But that's me.

It is probably going to Europe.

Why not just buy the opium from the growers and sell it to the pharmacutical companies?

No matter how much it cost it would be cheaper than fighting.

Hey, maybe the CIA should grow their drugs in America. It would put people to work and the money generated could be used to fight the war on drugs in Afghanistan, Central and South America.

And when the President and his brother get thrown out of Afghanistam, they can run the US Heroin trade for us.

Experience counts!

This is not a surprise for anyone who knows American history. Not the fantasy land history created by our propaganda industries, but the real history.

We brought the heroin crisis of the early 1970's on ourselves as we permitted the CIA to fly tonnes of it from Laos, and Vietnam in the "Air America" operation.
Cocaine in the 1980's with connections again to the CIA, Contra rebels, and even a young Bill Clinton in Mena Arkansas got in on the act.
Various sources link the crack cocaine epidemic to CIA operators, though this seems to be unprovable at this point unlike the first two facts.

So now we have Karzai the ex Unocal exec and Bush puppet, with his brother involved. The Taliban were wrong on so many levels but at least they told the truth when they declared jihad on drugs. They more or less succeeded too, google it. But for some reason once the US takes over, we have this huge drug problem.

Our government is deep into drugs.
