I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The good news is that Sarah Palin can complete a sentence...the bad news is that the rest of us have to listen to it, according to Bill Maher in his opening monologue on Friday night.

Maher also had mocking words for Rich Lowry, who thought Palin was 'man straightening.'

Here's video:

If that hayseed, Palin were to become President, the United States would become the laughingstock of the world. You betcha!

We already are the laughingstock of the world with W -- Palin would just deepen the dark humor.

McCain's new canpaign slogan: "McCain, the white Obama." Oh, Bill, that was even funnier than Sarah "Wink, Wink" Palin was on Thursday night (high praise, indeed).

Rich Lowry sounds like just the kind of guy who pays for a lap dance and leaves the club thinking that the stripper was in love with him.

(I posted this on another thread, so forgive me for the ole double post, but I still think it's worth noting)

Palin is a soccer mom or hockey mom to herself but to me she embodies one who is the ultimate female who will do/be whatever she has to be to get her man (?), vote (?) fee for service (?). No matter she was not the intelligent professional person who we would love to have post Cheney. She does remind me of bush/cheney/rove/rumsfield in a dress and that's when I am awake! I hope I don't have any nightmares of her whle asleep as I have not clue how she would appear in them....

You want to see some wild & crazy stuff, Keith Olbermann did a piece the
other night on connections between Bush 43, Palin & Newt Gingrich's
GOPAC. Seems as if Bush & Palin have done the koolaid together.

Maher says he's "just asking questions," after already making the baseless accusation that religions are responsible for all the bad in the human world. As if!

As if the oppression of women by men, females by males, only occurs after the invention of religion. As if child rape and infanticide only began after religion was invented. After if war of tribe upon tribe, troop upon troop, only began after the invention of religion.

What a crock! Male dominance has always been the norm among primates; damn few primates are matriarchal, but there are some. Infanticide is a primate tradition: that's what those enormous gorilla canines are for. The sterotypical gorilla infanticide method is a bite to the cranium; chimpanzees typically use a disembowelling bite to the belly. A mother's boyfriend is the single biggest threat to an infant's life, bar none. That's true all across the animal "kingdom." (Gee, how did politics and religion show up in Maher's hallowed science, and just in one word like that?)

Maher assumes that, before religion, we lived in some sort of natural utopia--dare I say, a garden of Eden? We had no oppression, no infanticide, no wars, like was just blissful, I suppose.

Agnostic, my ass! Maher is a hard-core Scientist.

Depending on yr definition, there is no "before religion" unless yr talking about what was before the conscious human mind. And I really don't think Maher is saying everything was perfect and blissful before Christianity; but there's no doubt that it's been used as a tool to oppress women e.g., the exile from Eden was a bad thing and it was all Eve's fault, Mary Magdelene was a prostitute and the Madonna a lost waif needing saving by Joseph.

Women were revered, and many feared, in ancient civilizations (many of the Gods of War were actually Goddesses of war). It was this fear of women that made oppressive religions like Christianity and Islam a perfect fit for insecure men.

It's true that the female of our species is smaller in stature and the males' upper body strength is dominant; but the lower body strength of the female is dominant, and as Harry Belafonte used to sing, "...the women are smarter, that's right, that's right."

I'm also pretty sure you wouldn't want to put the atrocities made in God's name next to the list of atrocities created by Atheists. It just might support Maher's claim that religion creates more trouble than it's worth.

I'm actually a believer, but I absolutely love Bill Maher, Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins, because I think their insights are invaluable.

Bill Maher Rocks! Palin's behavior was very unprofessional and tacky. This was supposed to be a serious debate about issues. The bailout was still being discussed. Instead of saying anything about the bailout, she ignored the question! Cutesy and folksy is NOT going to cut it. Send her back to Alaska.

Why do you religious people get so threatened when your beliefs are questioned?
Is your faith so easily shaken?

My wife and I are practising Christians and are going to Religulous for our 40th wedding aniversary. We don't have witch Doctors in our mainstream church.

By the way, if you are not "pro life" as the religious right calls anti abortionists does that mean you are "pro death" ? Absurd!

Let's stop being polite and just acknowledge it, the Republicans have found themselves a nice, peppy mascot. She's not really a VP candidate. They're not kidding themselves, why should we?

Mascots don't have to know things or answer questions - that's not their job! And it's plain unAmerican to rough up the mascot! Who cares what they do in their day job? When the lights go up on the field and it's game time, all that matters is cheering the team, and mocking the opponent.

And she's everything a Repub mascot should be, right down to the costume, backstory, and family accessories. The debate cinched it for them: she got her cues and lines down, she looked good, and she did what any good mascot needs to - she raised morale..

For an aging monochrome desperate political party that's squandered power and bankrupted the nation, she's a whole lotta fun, and a huge improvement over the standard bearer. She makes it feel good to be a Republican. The heck with reality. The heck with the country.

Gimme a big wink!

I feel sorry for Sarah Palin. I don't believe that she can't see what the McCain campaign is doing to her. Since joining the ticket she has been the target of ridicule from the left and the right, her popularity in her home State has dropped significantly, she is letting her children be used as pawns and window dressing, and her husband a non entity. Someday her carriage will turn back into a pumpkin and there will be no one bringing her a glass slipper. She will see John McCain as the Frog he is and not the Prince she thought he was.
