NEW YORK — Tina Fey, already the busiest of stars thanks to her Emmy-winning role in "30 Rock" and definitive impersonation of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, is working on a book.

According to two publishing officials with knowledge of the negotiations, Little, Brown and Company will release a book of humorous essays by the 38-year-old Fey. Her many writing credits include "30 Rock" and "Saturday Night Live," and the feature film "Mean Girls."

The officials asked not to be identified, citing the confidentiality of negotiations, and declined to give financial details Friday. Little, Brown spokeswoman Heather Rizzo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The deal was first reported Friday by The New York Observer.

Tina's dry, absurdist, rather recessive humor is perfect for these recessional times. And, now
she has scored a career linchpin in her flawless characterization of the bobbleheaded Ms. Palin.

She has captured the self-satisfied, totally unaware loopiness of the comedically archetypal
Palin to perfection.

Gracie Allen meets Goldie Hawn meets Rose Nyland meets Professor Irwin Cory all wrapped up
in a gun-toting spewer of sugary venom.

Hopefully, the mirror Fey has held up to this woman will serve to help deflate whatever
genuine popularity Palin so richly does NOT deserve.

I saw something special in her writing years ago, and now I'm so glad to see her being applauded by a much larger audience. She deserves all the applause, and more, IMO, even if she had never done the classic Palin impression.

I nominate Tina Fey for Vice President. She does a better Sarah Palin then Palin does herself. If that makes any sense.

Usually liberals don't like nominating actors and such for political roles - you know, Ventura, Reagan, Schwarzenegger, and such... just because she's left wing doesn't mean it'll be any different.

Tina Fey is awesome. Creatively talented, a good business woman - - all around someone I admire.

I can't wait to read the book. You, Tina, are a role model for young women everywhere.

Solicitation? Did you get clearance to sell beforehand?

She's just the media darling d'jure. Granted she's more talented than Britney Spears but the only reason she is getting such a big advance is because of sudden popularity. As for her writing for SNL, its hasnt exactly been known as the zenith of comedy for some time. Her other endeavours havent been 'hits' by most measures. So, if it wasnt for Palin do you think she would have gotten even 1/2 of the same advance? She'll likely sell some copy to Puma's and in the miracle event that McCain wins but I dont see her reshaping the literary landscape anytime soon.

"She's just the media darling d'jure."

**** Not only is your moniker spelled wrong, it's "Nom de Plume", but you can't even spell "dujour".
Your silly attempt at trying to show you have class or depth of knowledge falls flat.

"...the only reason she is getting such a big advance is because of sudden popularity."

**** Sudden???? LOL!! She has been VERY popular for years. AND she's getting such a big advance because her writing is brilliant. Have you ever actually seen any of her work, or do you simply prefer to make stuff up as you go?

"As for her writing for SNL, its hasnt exactly been known as the zenith of comedy for some time."

**** Ya' think? That might be because she hasn't been writing for SNL for 2 years.

"Her other endeavours havent been 'hits' by most measures."

**** Um...hello...."30 Rock"?...."Mean Girls"?....even "Baby Mama" did decent numbers at the box office.

"So, if it wasn't for Palin do you think she would have gotten even 1/2 of the same advance?"

**** With ease. She has more gravitas in entertainment circles than most right now, and is in high demand everywhere. The Palin schtick, while hilarious, was inconsequential to her book deal.

What is your problem with her? Pulling statements out of your arse and ignoring facts in the process says a lot about the type of person you are.

Hell, she's got more Political Gravitas then Palin too!

I realize Fey doesn't have political experience to lie about being for a bridge, before she was against it; or run Wasilla into $25 million debt to build skate center even though there is no sewage system; or lobby for millions in pork for a town of 8,000; or raise taxes in both Wasilla AND Alaska by shifting tax burden, or use private e-mail accounts for Government business to avoid sunshine laws, or fire a Chief of Safety because he didn't fire her brother-in-law; or try & deny a workman's comp. claim for brother-in-law just because she could, or claim Alaska provides 20% of the country's oil when it's really 3%, or claim she built a pipe-line that hasn't been built yet, or not know any Supreme Court Decision besides Roe V Wade even though she complained about the Exon Valdez decision that recently came down, but I'm willing to have Fey even if she doesn't have these 'strengths'. :-)

I think Fey is way more intelligent and savvy then Palin.

I definitely think that when she was the head writer Weekend Update was much better and the skits weren't all fabulous but they improved too.
The Palin shtick (which she nails perfectly) just re-iterates that she's a great actress, not just a great writer.
I agree with another poster - I'd like to see her in politics someday too.

The fact that you would compare Tina Fey to Britney Spears pretty much skewers your credibility forever, sport. I'll bet you had to take your gum out while you typed that.

God bless Tina Fey-- I hope she got what she wanted. However, if she landed the $5M that is being reported, it's just one more example of corporate publishers WAY overpaying for what they'll get in return. Yes, TF is hot right now, not in small part because of her bang-on Palin impersonation, but in 30 days Ms. Palin is going back to the woods from whence she came and Tina will be best known for starring in a popular TV show. It's smart that Tina's agent struck while the iron was hot, but if LB is paying $5M or more, they'll have to sell more than 400,000 copies of Tina's book of essays. This smells much more like the editors at LB wanted to meet the white-hot Tina Fey, and used their company's check book to accomplish it, like so many acquisitions in publishing these days.
