I am so pleased to hear a union brother talk the truth the way he did, I am a correction officer and we are union too. But for the life of me I cannot understand why my fellow union brothers at my job say they will not vote for Obama, these brothers are white and I don't want to say they are racist, but the way they talk leads me to believe this. Bush Mcain and the rest of the right wing don't have working people's intrest in mind. How can a working man making 50,000 a year vote for a Republican?

I was extremely moved by Mr. Trumka's speech. As an African American woman, I am aware of how my passion against injustices is often overlooked and/or perceived as yet another rant from an "angry Black woman." It's hard to describe the mixture of feelings I experience when I see others, particularly my non-Black counterparts, speaking out against discrimination of any kind. I especially loved the part when he spoke of Obama's "connection" to Islam...ba­sically saying, "so what if he was?!" Thank you to those who help shoulder the burden of speaking the truth and fighting for issues of social justice.
