Rolling Stone:

At Fort McNair, an army base located along the Potomac River in the nation's capital, a chance reunion takes place one day between two former POWs. It's the spring of 1974, and Navy commander John Sidney McCain III has returned home from the experience in Hanoi that, according to legend, transformed him from a callow and reckless youth into a serious man of patriotism and purpose. Walking along the grounds at Fort McNair, McCain runs into John Dramesi, an Air Force lieutenant colonel who was also imprisoned and tortured in Vietnam.

McCain is studying at the National War College, a prestigious graduate program he had to pull strings with the Secretary of the Navy to get into. Dramesi is enrolled, on his own merit, at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in the building next door.

There was only one "real" fake Maverick. And it wasn't John McCain.

Refer everyone you know to this article.

With the continued sliming of Obama by McCain and his camp rather than McCain running on his own merits, Independents and Republicans need to know who they are considering voting for.

I wholeheartedly agree that the issues raised in this article deserve to be receiving MUCH more media attention! Why has this been buried?? Why has no one questioned McCain about any of this in interviews? This is info the voting public has a right (and a responsibility) to know about him.

Why isn't anyone talking about this article? I was absolutely stunned by what I read. People need to know the true history of McCain...now more than ever.

Has anyone done a similar investigation into the life of Obama? Not a fluff inspirational piece, but one like this that really disected the man's life path. It would be great to see them both side by side. I agree.. this article was very well reported. The writer did his homework.

This great Rolling Stones article really should be emblazoned across Huffington's homepage.

If there's anyone whose psychology should be deconstructed, it's the people who are running for the highest position in the most powerful nation of the world. Whoever's elected, this person's mental well-being will have a direct impact on how they'll rule a nation. Mccain's unpalatable personality notwithstanding, clinically narcissistic and possibly sociopathic, is not my only concern. I'd be very concerned to find out if this man never sought professional psychological help for his harrowing experiences in Vietnam. I recall an interview where his mother, Roberta Mccain (whom I actually have a soft spot for), mentioned the family never talked about Mccain's experiences in Vietnam after his return. Deep traumas when untreated have the potential to create dangerous individuals. I can only imagine the type of destruction Mccain might bring about if he's given the nearly unchecked powers of a president.

This is an excellent article. It sums up the pathetic life and political career of John Sidney McCain. Recommended reading.

I agree, this article should be moved to the top of the main Huffpo page and distributed everywhere.

In the last few years there have been many people saying that Bushy will be forever known as the worst president in American history. Well, that is probably true, but only if McCain is not elected.

Look out people, we could be in biiiiiiggggg trouble!

What struck me about this article was it justified, in facts, what I already “knew” about the man in my own judgment. How could anyone be swayed by this unpleasant individual? Doesn’t that tell us what kind of people his supporters are? What about those Democrats who *keep* announcing their love and friendship for this shady, dishonest and opportunistic man? Both the Clintons, most especially Bill, top the list. But Joe Biden is up there as well. Every time he talks about McBush, “God love him”, he makes me sick. I think this type of pandering, really, is upsetting. It is *dis*honorable to tout a man as honorable when all behavior points to something entirely different. Aren’t they privy to the same information that we are? Can’t they read the same Rolling Stone article?

The newest strategy from the McBush camp is to make the election about “character”. Well, this should be a game over strategy for Obama. Character? Really? And if Americans knew what was in this RS article could they possibly support McBush on character? I don’t think the Keating 5 scandal is the worst of it. I believe the accounts of the people who worked with him and who once called him friend would be a better judge of McBush’s character. He is a bitter and horrible little man with a daddy complex. Hmmm. Haven’t we seen this movie?
