McCain's Brother: VA Suburbs "Communist Country"

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate John McCain's brother made an apparent joke at a campaign rally this weekend that might not play well in parts of newly competitive Virginia.

Joe McCain, speaking at an event in support of his brother, called two Democratic-leaning areas in Northern Virginia "communist country," according to a report on The Washington Post's Web site.

"I've lived here for at least 10 years and before that about every third duty I was in either Arlington or Alexandria, up in communist country," Joe McCain, a Navy veteran, said at an event in Loudoun County, Va.

Joe McCain then apologized, but the remark drew laughter at the event, according to the report.

Virginia has long been a Republican stronghold in presidential elections, but Democrat Barack Obama is running even or ahead of McCain in recent state polls. Obama is being helped by fast-growing communities in the Washington, D.C., suburbs of Northern Virginia, which tend to vote more Democratic than other parts of the state.

One of those areas is Arlington, Va., where John McCain owns a condominium.

"This was Joe McCain's unsuccessful attempt at humor," said McCain campaign spokeswoman Gail Gitcho. "John McCain and Sarah Palin are committed to winning the support of voters in Northern Virginia and understand the region's importance to victory statewide."

I am not surprised, by his brother being not being dissimilar to him. McCain's judgement by picking Palin and his outrageous lies through out this campaign (and his hypocrisy and unethical stand during his whole political career) clearly show what kind of people they truly are. These people would do anything and say anything for power and money. They have no principals or personal integrity.

Republican party and McCain- Palin and this whole crowd are not the true patriots any more; they excel in being divisive, name calling, slandering, war profiteering and nepotism, hijacking our Constitution to serve their personal agenda and they are the enemies of secularism (separation of church and state)
They are able to send thousands of our soldier "without blinking" to an unnecessary war they created that only benefited private US corporations and ruined our economy and standing and destabilized the region and emboldened our enemies killed 4000+ American soldiers and 600.000 Iraqi civilians
Yet, what about OUR veterans that McCain and his republican bodies just dropped like hot potatoes, he and his fat cat buddies, I do not trust them. After 8 years, it is time for change!

Arlington, Virginia has traditionally had large immigrant community. It has included immigrants into the community and provides them with many services. It has built a huge recreation complex across from low rent housing. It has remodeled the housing so that it is bright, shiny, and clean. The recreation area has an indoor swimming pool and a huge soccer field. There is also a baseball field close by. Near the the sports complex I mentioned are restaurants, theaters, and a new Harris Teeter supermarket with upscale condos near by. . There are many parks close by for picnics and family gatherings in the summer. The city provides an indoor waiting area in the area where employers can come and find day laborers. No health care is denied.

The kids who live in these areas don't join gangs and will become productive contributing members of society. Arlington has the lowest crime rate in Norhern Virginia.

The McCain campaign must think the state of America (the economy, the war, our environment, the future of our children, etc.) is a joke. I am truely getting tired of them thinking they can say and do anything that comes to their small minds and feel that all they have to do is apologize and everything is ok. I have a son graduating from college next year, I have niece's and nephrews, and young cousins who will one day inherit this great nation. This our opportunity to give them a clean slate and allow them to draw the world they thought only existed in fiction books and fairy tales. My mother always said, "they did not ask to be here". So why are they being punished. With all the things that's going on and all the fixing up that needs to be done, the most that John McCain can contribute is a negative rumors and a complete stupid message. Does he not realize that when it all goes down, his children will be in the same boat as the rest of our children. They may have a lot of money, but money couldn't stop hurrican Ike, Katrina, or tsuaami (sp). When we had the 2005 black out, no body had power, rich, poor, homeless, crazy, white, black, old, and young. We were all in the dark. So McCain had better get it together and stop taking this election as joke. It's time to get serious.
