Meghan McCain's Infinite Playlist

As many of you no doubt know, Senator John McCain's daughter Meghan has turned her father's campaign into something of a hobby to build a blog around, and one of the things she frequently offers up are selections from her iPod to frame the events of the day. We'd sort of taken our eye off parsing Meghan's playlist for campaign insights, but Matt Yglesias directs us to this item on Pitchfork, which found the would-be Presidential daughter sending mixed messages by anointing Stereolab's "Ping Pong" as the song of the day for September 29, 2008 - the day the House failed in their first attempt to pass the bailout package, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeting 777 points.

Okay, so I went through all her playlists and she likes some of my favorite artists - Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan - in particular. I'm having a really hard time divorcing the reality of the awesomeness/beauty/message of the aforementioned artists' music - and the politics of McCain. I know they're separate realms but I can't help but be annoyed by this. LOL

I just have to wonder how many bands someone like this listens to that are actually socially conscious, and absolutely loathe everything her father/family stands for? Personally, if I suspected a certain band had a deep dislike for my family and it's policies, I probably wouldn't like them too much, either.

Reminds me of when Jenna Bush went to go see a Radiohead show without the band's previous knowledge. When they found out later, one of them said something along the lines of 'it was probably best we didn't know she was there. Don't know what we might've done.' ;-D

Meghan McCain is the type of Stereolab fan that true Stereolab fans hate. A trendy wanna-be who probably doesn't get half of the references or philosophy of the music -- just wants something in her iPod to suggest how "cool" she is. Whatever. I'm sure Tim and Laetitia are amused by all of this. No, they're not socialists, that's not entirely correct, but they do have a lot of influences.

I'd suggest she pay closer attention to The Man With 100 Cells. Or better yet, ask her dad to listen to Good Is Me, and share it with all of his right-wing friends:

The Ping Pong song would be a critique of classism if anybody else selected it. From Meghan McCain it reads like "Let them eat cake." However, I wonder if she isn't secretly tempted to vote for Obama. After all, the nicest thing she said about Sarah Palin was that she's glad she's a woman and liked her shoes.

History Lesson:
McCain means Son of Cain who is Enoch, but don't confuse him with the good Enoch as there are two Enochs in the bible.
Enoch from Cain's Line- not much to say beyond what the scriptures record, but we do know that this Enoch continued Cain's rebellion against God. We read of nothing good coming from this line. He engaged in the same wickedness as the haters of God He must cringed when the other Enoch preached the message of God. Enoch, Cain's son, represents all those who rebel against God, this includes the hypocrite too.

Enoch from Seth's Line- is included on the role of honour in Hebrews 11, therefore his life of faith can instruct us how we should live for the Lord. He was a preacher and was loved by God.

What is the relevance of your scripture? You illustrated an irrational parallel between McCain and Enoch and nothing more. McCain has given us plenty of ammo with which to attack him. Connecting him with the biblical line of Cain is just madness. Stay relevant.
