I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Grating

At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"

Actually, Albright didn't say that. The accurate quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." (Sources made the same point to CBS's Scott Conroy.)

Palin seemed to realize that the line could be viewed as grating. As the audience cheered, she remarked: "Okay, now, thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper."

Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Here's video of Palin's remarks:

Dan Quayle was a bad joke (remember how he misspelled potato judging a spelling bee) and his ticket still won, using similar deceptive and fear mongering tactics.
There is still a long way before election day, and we know there will be a lot of tricks played to stop people voting and from having their votes counted.
Just because McCain/Palin is a bad joke, it doesn't mean they can't still win.
Everyone who supports Obama/Biden has to make sure to vote and make sure it is counted.

The joke is on you, friend, because Obama is about to be disqualified for not being a natural born citizen of the U.S.

That is a tiny bit more important than whether or not someone can spell potato, wouldn't you say?

Overall, I laugh in the face of Sara Palin. I think she's a joke of a pick and is only on the ticket because McCain new from the start that he was in trouble and he assumed, as did Palin, that women would vote simply because there is a woman on the ticket. Frankly, I am surprised that the Republicas even allowed it. They have made a joke of this campaign at Sarah Palin's expense, almost as is trying to mock Hillary for her efforts. Well, looks like us crazy liberals will have the last laugh!

Palin really thinks that a woman who doesn't support another woman will go to hell? Funny, because she shows no support for her follow woman on the issues of abortion and equal pay. Palin would love to over turn Roe v Wade, thus taking away a woman's right to choose what to do with her body. She also does not agree with equal pay for women in the work force. Why? Because she's never had to fight for it and has never struggled to put food on the table. Palin is a throwback to the womans rights movements and all that women aspire to be.

Now, as for the quotes in question. I do not agree that they mean the same thing. Helping a woman, in my opinion, is doing anything in your power to make sure that woman has what she needs to provide for herself and/or her family. It's getting her proper education, a decent job, a stable place to live, and food her children. By simply supporting another woman you are offering her resources, but are not offering of anything monetary or physical in nature. Supporting her includes offering kind words, words of advice and so forth. I think there is a clear difference here. Again, these are just my views.

I found one site that listed help and support as being synonyms, however, if you actually read the definitions, they seem quite different.
Help; verb used with object: to give or provide what is necessary to accomplish a task or satisfy a need; contribute strength or means to; render assistance to; cooperate effectively with; aid; assist: He planned to help me with my work. Let me help you with those packages.
Support; verb used with object: to sustain (a person, the mind, spirits, courage, etc.) under trial or affliction: They supported him throughout his ordeal.
or to maintain (a person, family, establishment, institution, etc.) by supplying with things necessary to existence; provide for: to support a family.
or to uphold (a person, cause, policy, etc.) by aid, countenance, one's vote, etc.; back; second.

I'll first start by saying that the fact that Palin made this comment out load, under the pretense in which she did, shows how juvenile she is and how badly they are hurting for votes. I think it also has a tone of undermining women by assuming that we as women vote soley on emotions and prestige, as if it were another beauty pagent, rather then voting because of the issues. It's women like Palin, who believe that women are the lesser sex and should submit to man, that keep us strong women from accomplishing so much more.

Everyone is saying that "help" and "support" are synonymous and that they mean the same thing. Well if that was the case, then why did she change it??

And of course let's get down to the actual point of her statement.....women should support her simply based on the fact that she's...a woman?? WHY? That is a completely absurd statement to make. Is she so convinced that she can't make it on her own merit, that she has to appeal to that reason to give her a vote?

By the way....why is she encouraging her daughter's boyfriend to drop out of high school? This woman gives seriously bad advice. Marry at 18 and drop out of high school?? Really??? If this is her idea of handling a family crisis, then I'd hate to see her handling a national one.

By the way.....should a supposedly religious Christian be telling other women they're going to hell just because they don't support her in this election? That is what she said after all. What translation of the Bible did she get that theology from? The Revised Standard Palin Edition?

"Help"? "Support"? What is the difference? Sounds like semantics to me. All this proves is that she is not as accomplished as the plagiarists she is running against!

And Ms. Albright clarifies for us that what she said was not intended to apply to politics? How convenient!

This whole episode only serves to bring one thing to the forefront: feminism no longer exists - it has been completely replaced by liberalism.

Much like blacks and other minorities who chose which of their own to support based on their politics, the same is now true for feminists. Did MLK differentiate between blacks with opposing political views? I think not. He would be just as proud today to see Michael Steele destined for the White House as Obama.

Have women made so much progress in infiltrating the male dominated world of politics now that they can afford to turn their backs on one of their own who is on the threshold of making history?

Hmm. Now we know what Sarah reads for her current events information. Not newspapers or magazines. I hope America wakes up and doesn't elect two of the sorriest candidates for the highest office in the world.

Democrats have been working hard down here in Texas.

We may not be able to give Barack and Biden our electoral votes, but we sure are going to make major inroads to help Democrats take control of counties in our state, including Dallas county and Harris county. Go Texas Dems!

So many things are wrong about her quoting this during the rally! First, she could not even get the quote correct, this however does not surprise me in the least. Second, what does this mean? What is she trying to say? Is this some kind of a poor attempt at a scare tactic to imply that woman who are not going to stand by her side and support her in this election are going to Hell??? Ridiculous!! Sarah Palin clearly has the same erratic, immoral, vindictive and unpredictable traits as John McCain......these two together running the USA is a terrifying thought!

Give me a break...."support" or "help". Yes, they are not exactly the same, and "support" implies a slightly different meaning...one to draw in the female emotion and desire to assist...but COME ON! FIRST off, it was only a slight change, which hardly changed the meaning of the phrase. Secondly, knowing myself and the way my mind works that is truly the sort of thing I could have accidentally done. Do you ever hear information and paraphrase it in your mind without realizing it? While I know that campaigns are the time to bring up ANYTHING and EVERYTHING a person could POSSIBLY do wrong, I hope that when it comes time to vote we all vote on who's STAND we truly support and not consider trivial things such as this.

It absolutely is NOT the same (misquoting Albright by saying 'supporting' not 'helping'), and in fact there is a fundamental difference that we should look at here...
"Support" versus "help" is not implying "emotion" versus "assist" as GeorgiaMom is positing... Instead, Palin was taking the tone that to not "support" her - as in a political way, as in supporting one's, her, candidacy - was to have a place in hell.
BUT instead -- to "help" women is to actually CARE about women's issues, which is, ironically something that Palin does NOT seem to care about in the least. In fact, practically every stance she has is in DIRECT opposition to HELPing women. A major case in point is in regards to punishing women for desiring an abortion in cases of rape and incest. Is this *helping* OR *supporting* women? And before you answer, remember!, "There is a place in hell...... "

I think this race will get close no matter what hapens- we are getting closer to a tie in the Electoral College.

See what happens if we get a tie in the electoral college.

OK...for all the liberal sheep on here that soak in media-driven lies and quote them as truth, without ever doing any ACTUAL research of your own, here's a little tidbit for you:

NO, she didn’t try to charge rape victims personally for rape kits!!! This is one of those complicated ones with a tiny hint of truth behind it. First, the Chief of Police in Wasilla (not Palin) did apparently have a policy of asking a victim’s health insurance to pay for the rape kit as part of the ER visit. This, it turns out, is policy in a number of states, including Missouri and North Carolina. Second, the way this became an issue was after the then-governor of Alaska signed a bill forbidding it; this law was signed before Palin was Governor and no one tried to reverse it while she was Governor. Third, what the cop in Wasilla wanted to do was charge the PERPETRATOR as part of restitution.

OK...you can all back to living in your little "snowglobe" world now, being babysitted by Uncle Barak.

not to change the subject- especially, in fact, if her makeup artist is a woman (supporting other women)(or not)... but is her makeup applied with a passive aggressive twist? Or does she mean to look like she has russet colored old-english style sideburns?
