I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Grating

At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"

Actually, Albright didn't say that. The accurate quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." (Sources made the same point to CBS's Scott Conroy.)

Palin seemed to realize that the line could be viewed as grating. As the audience cheered, she remarked: "Okay, now, thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper."

Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Here's video of Palin's remarks:

A question for the honorable Governor Palin. If she is an expert on fossil fuel as she claims, she should be quizzed about the origin of those fuels. When did the dinasaurs exist on earth might seem a soimple enough qustion.

The answer might be in direct conflict with her creationist theories. Of course she will answer the question like this When did the dinasaurs roam the earth? Ans. Barack Obama wants to raise your taxes.

So, according the way Sarah Palin quoted the cup, all women who don't vote for her are going to hell! So much for her "Christian charity"! If you look at the quote the correct way, the way Albright actually said it, then Palin is going to hell for not helping women - being pro-life and allowing rape victims to be billed for rape kits. That is not my idea of helping women!!!!!

The Palin quote that was even more telling was at the end of the debate when she quoted Reagan (via her neo-con speechwriters, she has no knowledge of history)
"...freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction."
without mentioning that this was a quote from a speech Reagan gave to frighten people away from Medicare by calling it "socialized medicine." This is the neo-nons' agenda, as it was Reagan's and Goldwater's, to disband any of the social protections and business/financial regulations that were inplemented under FDR and continued through most presidents until Reagan.

Palin's consistent ignorance leads me to one conclusion. She coasted through college on the laps of her male professors and was home schooled by a mother with a 3rd grade level education.

What a friggin idiot. Ya know the media has just twisted everything she says. RIGHT!
Now we can argue about the word 'help' vs the word 'support' and how the origianl quote implies women helping women and how Palins implies voting for her JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN.
And guess what, for her right wing supporters that's already too many words in a row to follow. And so, the media will barf back her implication without explanation. And the lowest common demoninator is once again manipulated.
If onlu the US was an educated country...

I saw Palin at this rally. I was highly offended by her citing this comment as I thought it was not the true comment. I was also highly offended that the LA president of NOW would choose to provide an intro for this candidate who is NOT endorced by NOW.
Palin was so mean spirited and so like a pit bull at this rally that I thought I was back in high school she was playing the Shannen Doherty role.
And I counted 3 African Americans in a crowd of appx. 13,000. It is significant to note that the city that the rally was held in is predominantly African American!!

When I first heard that she'd read a quote on a Starbucks cup, I thought it was a joke. OMG.

Here's a Sarah Palin joke for you all:

A Republican advisor suggests to Sarah that she try "Barlett's" for quotations.
"Is their latte good?" She replies.

Good comments and a link to a video about how Sarah Palin does NOT stand up for women.

She speaks in tongues. She is a former beauty queen from a tiny town with a low IQ and a gift for memorization and regurgitation who adheres to a strong fundamentalist religion. She does not read the NY Times or the Washington Post or any other major national or world newssource, because she does not believe that she has to know anything about the world's realities. She only has to know what she thinks her religion tells her to know. She is only good at whipping up a frenzie in the republican base and that's why she was brought on as the vp candidate.

She read it on the side of a Starbuck's cup? That's what she should have told Katie Couric when Palin was aksed where she gets her information. The Economist??? yeah, right! Besides, I thought only elitists drink Starbucks.
