I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Grating

At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"

Actually, Albright didn't say that. The accurate quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." (Sources made the same point to CBS's Scott Conroy.)

Palin seemed to realize that the line could be viewed as grating. As the audience cheered, she remarked: "Okay, now, thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper."

Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Here's video of Palin's remarks:

How dare she!!! She’s dissing all these people that have education and experience well beyond her own - in a public arena. Obamas legal credentials & education are OUTSTANDING - everyone seems to gloss over these. At least he wasn’t tooting a flute and walking around in a swimsuit and heels. He was doing something that actually makes a difference.

Madeline Albright didn’t deserve those boos - why cant Republicans admit a job well done - its just hate mongering all they way. There's a place in hell for Palin for just letting that crowd boo a woman that has made an outstanding contribution - a person she could only hope to emulate.

...and nice lie - if you are going to quote it - get it right.

Shame on her !

She used the beauty pageant to get a college grant. She has a degree in Journalism. Since when is being a lawyer a good thing. Lawyer's are paid to lie to people. People hate them.

What was it 6 colleges in 5 years??? And I dont know where you come from but a good understanding of the law and consitution is really required in gov't.

This is it - you can only make change if you understand gov't - the law and how it works! If you cant even name a case - there's a problem!!!

..and a Journalism degree!! God help me!

I don't care that people hate them - at least they understand the mechasims in which they work!!!!!

So now Sarah Palin is unsuccessfully mocking Madeline Albright using a quote she read on a Starbuck's cup. This just gets wierder every day. I'm guessing that someone probably had to tell her who Madeline Albright was.

No doubt from watching this video that she never heard the original quote before.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:28 PM on 10/07/2008

Nope. She read it right off the cup. She CAN read you know. It's not like Alaska is a foreign country where they don't teach kids how to READ.

Whether or not I agree with their views, there are women in politics that I respect and admire - Condi Rice, Madeleine Albright, Hillary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, Benazir Bhutto, Indira Gandhi... Is Sarah Palin in the same league?

As a woman, and particularly as a woman, I don't want women in positions of power based on their gender. I want the smartest, the most intellectually curious, the most qualified and informed, and the most inspirational LEADERS running this place. When we lower the bar for one woman, we do a disservice to all women.

What is even more shocking is that the California NOW chapter endorsed Sarah Palin! Could it possibly be for any other reason than the fact that she is a woman? Is that what we have come to? Palin has an extremist right wing ideology that is completely opposed to everything that the National Organization for Women is supposed to stand for. Sarah Palin is to the women's movement the equivalent of what Clarence Thomas is to black Americans.

Fortunately, that California NOW story is just an ugly rumor (or a desperate attempt by the Palin camp to distort the truth). All California chapters of NOW support Obama-Biden:

Has anyone else found the fact that Palin has been wearing White suits (after Labor Day) curious?

I can't help but believe that this is somehow meant to be some type of pro-White subliminal message.

I mean who wears white in October?

Hey-- anybody know the term for a woman who turns her back on other women while crawling over them in a desperate attempt to ingratiate herself with the all male power elite?

"Palinism"

As excruciating as it is to listen to Sarah Palin speak, it is even worse to read a transcipt of it, as one is forced to read it several times over just to decipher what she is trying to say!

I have a quote for you , Governor Palin:

" Life begins at conception, and ends on the battlefields of Iraq ( or Inan, or Georgia, or........).

Indeed!
First I'd like to ask the hypocritical Ms. Palin how she thinks that statement applies to her?
1. She made derogatory remarks about Hillary Clinton and called her a "whiner" when she was being treated with misogyny.
2. She thinks lesbians need to "pray the gay away" in order to allowed into heaven.
3. She expects a woman who is raped to bear the offspring of her attacker.
4. She supports with McCain who voted against women's right to equal pay.
5. She supports "witch hunts" to threaten women who may be perceived by her church to be doing what THEY consider "witch craft." (Rather 1692-ish of her, don'tcha think?)

I would never support PALIN!! I dont care if that phony hag PAID me to!! What Palin was trying to do without having to look responsible or accountable for it was IMPLY that as a woman, if you DO NOT vote for her, you will go to HELL.

This is scary, people, because she really believes that crap.

Yes, Indeed! But you forgot to mention charging women who've been raped $1200 for the "Rape Kit" (hospital visit which does little for the victim, (beyond the " too early to be accurate" pregnancy test) and is mostly for the benefit of the state, should they choose to prosecute the "perp." ("Gotta feelin" that doesn't happen too often in Alaska...)

Talk about "insult to injury" - and betraying "other women" !

Don't forget mya2121... don't forget the second part of #3. After the woman is raped, she has to pay for her own rape kit!
