I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Grating

At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"

Actually, Albright didn't say that. The accurate quote is, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women." (Sources made the same point to CBS's Scott Conroy.)

Palin seemed to realize that the line could be viewed as grating. As the audience cheered, she remarked: "Okay, now, thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper."

Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

Here's video of Palin's remarks:

Hell is reserved for women who preach hatred of their own gender to other women.

For the record, I would go directly to Hell before I would support a vicious viper such as the current VP nominee. America will see through you honey, I just know they will. You are about as interested in women's rights as the Boston strangler was. Anyone with half a brain will realize you are race baiting and dealing out smears and fears. And as evidenced by Ms. Albright's response, she agrees with you on nothing. Thanks, but no thanks. I've seen your road and bridge to nowhere!

Palin, in all her egotism, wants to torque Ms. Albright's words around to force, throught guilt, American women to support her. Instead I choose to support and help all the rest of American women by NOT voting for anti-feminist and her far-right, anti-woman, anti-American agenda.

We should HELP other women by NOT SUPPORTING Palin.

Oh please...is there much difference in meaning between help and support? At least she didn't totally blow it like Biden who thought we had tv during the depression.

mrskorn - If you are being quoted incorrectly, wouldnt you set the record straight?
I defend your right to free speech, as I do for all Americans. What I wont defend, however, is people like Sarah Palin who intentionally twist something to their benefit.

That is not Vice Presidential decorum, nor that of a truth-seeking American citizen.
We are voting this election, for someone who represents the best in America, not picking some old Corporate-favoring has-been and his disingenuous teaser vice prezidential nominee.

Skorn,

Do a little research before you say anything, television _did_ exist that far back, not the way we know it today, but it was there.

Just had to respond to the tv comment.

There is a big difference between help and suport.

When you are drowning you want someone to help you survive, not just "support" your efforts to help yourself.

Help is providing action.... not lip service.

Help means to give aide to someone in need of aide.
Support implies giving this woman your vote.
FYI.

Biden's comment about TV/The Depression was indeed quite funny (perhaps even worthy of your scorn?). But I would like to suggest to you that Joe's lack of knowledge about when the television was invented/in universal use does NOT inform his decisions about healthcare, the economy, war/preemptive war, or general domestic/ international politics. If you're a Republican, I get it. You want to support your party. But at what cost?

The good news: Sarah can finally answer the question, "what do you read?"
The bad news, she reads coffee cups.
The worse news, She still has some accuracy issues if there is more than 2 lines of text.

BTW, Madeleine Albright is an amazing woman who has spent years serving this country and should be afforded the same respect one would give to one of our troops. Palin could do worse than to try to follow Ms. Albright's example. Shame on you for not immediately stopping the negative comments and asking the crowd to show some respect.

I wonder whether there is a special place in hell for American hating members of the Alaska Independence Party.

Thank you. I have been making this point about the Palin's association with the AIP since the McCain campaign reprised the Obama/ Ayers " association." The following statement was made by the founder of the AIP: " The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government." Why are we not hearing about this in the MSM ?

It is incredible that with a wink and a you betcha, she can smile and invoke such hate and sneering in her crowds. What is up with all of the booing of opponents at her rallies? And to boo Madeleine Albright? There you go, Joe - disrespecting one of the women who even allows you to say your nonsense!

FROM WIKI--"An anonymous smear campaign began against McCain, delivered by push polls, faxes, e-mails, flyers, and audience plants.[119][135] The smears claimed that McCain had fathered a black child out of wedlock (the McCains' dark-skinned daughter was adopted from Bangladesh), that his wife Cindy was a drug addict, that he was a homosexual, and that he was a "Manchurian Candidate" who was either a traitor or mentally unstable from his North Vietnam POW days.[119][129] The Bush campaign strongly denied any involvement with the attacks.[129] McCain lost South Carolina on February 19, ...
MCCAIN WOULD SAY OF THE RUMOR SPREADERS, "I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR PEOPLE LI KE THOSE." "
OK, pal, and gal, I reckon it's do unto others time...

How have you helped the rape victims in Wasilla
- buy yor own rape kits
- refuse funding for additional resources to crack down on crimes against women
- support a policy that would not support a womans right to choose even if she were brutally raped.
