Playing Defense: Palin Defending Traditional Red States

ABC News:

Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin will visit Omaha, Neb., on Sunday, an official from the McCain-Palin campaign has confirmed, signaling an attempt to shore up a traditionally reliable red state from efforts by the Obama campaign to capture one of the state's key electoral votes.

After a fundraising event in the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday, Palin will travel to Omaha to hold a rally Sunday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium, in the heart of Nebraska's second congressional district. Palin was originally scheduled to fly directly from California to Florida on Sunday, but the Omaha rally was added late on Saturday, according to the McCain campaign.

mccain too old to keep this kind of a schedule..­. when he was running around the world he made gaffe after gaffe because he was to tired to think straight.

Too old to be on campaign trail definitely too old to be in the White House... can't send palin to deal with sharks in the senate her BS talking points wont cut it. And forget about her dealing with world leaders.

A long day for mccain as president could mean him starting a war because he's confused talking to/about a world leader or giving away some part of the country.

According to LA Times, she held a rally at the Home Depot Tennis center attended by 10,000, then attended two fundraisers.

Every time I read another story about Sarah Palin attending fund raisers, I am reminded again of the hypocrisy of the Mc Cain campaign bragging about limiting themselves to accepting federal funds, yet continuing to raise as much money as possible using the loopholes in the campaign finance laws.

From Mc Cain-Palin Victory 2008 website (a joint fund raising committee)­....."allo­cates contributions to the Republican National Committee ("RNC"), the state parties' federal accounts, and McCain- Palin Compliance Fund ("Compliance Fund") in conformity with federal limits. Unless a contribution would exceed federal limits or a contributor designates otherwise, Victory 2008 will divide contributions as follows:

* For Individuals - The first $28,500 will go to the RNC, the next portion will be divided evenly between the Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania state parties' federal accounts up to a maximum of $9,250 for each Committee, and the final $2,300 will go to the Compliance Fund.
* For Federal Multicandidate PACs - The first $15,000 will go to the RNC, the next portion will be divided evenly between the Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania state parties' federal accounts up to a maximum of $5,000 for each Committee, and the final $5,000 will go to the Compliance Fund."

This apparently allows Victory to raise up to $67,800 per donor (and presumably, up to $135,600 per couple).

Exactly. Palin is raising money for the RNC. That can go for a lot of things...G­OTV for the Republicans, voter suppression against the Dems, building up support (and patronage) with local candidates, joint appearances, and even some limited TV and radio ads in which McCain or Palin "endorse" a local candidate. Plus the RNC can assist Congressmen and Senators in their campaigns with that cash.

But by accepting public money McCain could be in trouble. I'd like to see how fast that $84 million was divvyed out last month, and how much is left. Except for this he can't do much else, and it looks as if he's throwing a lot of money down rat-holes (Michigan, Pennsylvania).

The fact that McCain travelled to Iowa had to be because there was a fundraiser there. He can't win Iowa. And what is Palin going to Carson, California? The two surrounding Congressional districts are held by Democrats and are predominantly African American and Mexican American. I suppose that they were drawing in folks from outside the area...in the more interior districts of the corrupt Jerry Lewis and Darryl Issa. Are these guys in such trouble in their heavily gerrymanded districts that a visit from Palin is necessary??

One would think that McCain or Palin would be down in Florida, or North Carolina, Virginia, or maybe Ohio. Not California, Nebraska or Iowa?

Here's the point many liberals don't get. Many of us lower income, non-elite types like her. We like Governor Palin. Her reply's reflect the world view many of us have - in fact, we are a large part of the country. Simply because the elite don't agree and don't understand doesn't mean we lack substance. I appreciate Governor Palin's guts, her stand on the issues, and how confidently she confronted Senator Biden.

I don't trust Obama because not only is his stand on the issues simply wrong, but his political career was birthed and nurtured in Chicago, where corruption is inherent to the political culture.

As for me and my house - we like the Palins. They are conservative on the issues we feel are important. This is what’s great about America. We all have one vote.
