Virginia GOPer Writes Racist Anti-Obama Column

The LA Times reports:

A local newspaper columnist, in a spoof of Obama's platform, wrote in one recent piece that the Democrat would hire the rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black (a reference to a pro-Obama song by Ludacris), and divert more foreign aid to Africa so "the Obama family there can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream." He joked that Obama would replace the 50 stars on the U.S. flag "with a star and crescent logo," an Islamic symbol, and that his policy on drugs would be to "raise taxes to pay for Obama's inner-city political base."

The columnist, Bobby May, is also treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and was listed in a July news release as the county's representative on McCain's Virginia leadership team, though he said his column reflected his views alone, and he denied it was racist.

Such bigotry is not uncommon and people with such small minds do contribute to the fabric of our great nation. Can we make them go away? Not really. We can certainly hope, however that as the Nation begins to flourish again under President Obama, the hearts and minds of these people and especially their children will begin to open to the fact that we are one nation. We can certainly hope too that leaders like Mr. McCain and others in the Republican party will demonstate zero-tolerance for such displays by the party's leadership.

Following people with that mind-set will soon be faced with reality now that buch/cheney/mccain/liberman thinks they will win in Iraq. The people in Iraq are not white people. They know they have been called sand ni&&ers by white Americans. We stay there spending money we don't have for the control of oil is a hugh mistake.

The fact that it's a so-called spoof makes it even more racist, actually, when you think about it:

--get in under the wire with humor

--adopt a supposedly "distant" sadistic attitude to real people's suffering

--compel people to laugh then have contempt for people who don't "see the joke"

etc. etc.

We need to fight this stuff now.

And BTW, the author of this humorous satirical column has an equally funny full name: "Bobby Lee May." Kinda has a nice assassin ring, don't it? Just kidding, Bobby Lee. I'm sure being saddled with a girl's name and a premature balding gene is the real reason why you're such a bitter a-hole. Or maybe it's just the latent homosexuality that you are forced to repress under whatever miserable rock you call home.

Bobby May lives in a remote region of Virginia; the town of Grundy is among the poorest in the state. He hardly represents the state of Virginia. This man's column would never have made it past the local population had not the LA Times picked it up.
