I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Obama

The LA Times reports:

A local newspaper columnist, in a spoof of Obama's platform, wrote in one recent piece that the Democrat would hire the rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black (a reference to a pro-Obama song by Ludacris), and divert more foreign aid to Africa so "the Obama family there can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream." He joked that Obama would replace the 50 stars on the U.S. flag "with a star and crescent logo," an Islamic symbol, and that his policy on drugs would be to "raise taxes to pay for Obama's inner-city political base."

The columnist, Bobby May, is also treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and was listed in a July news release as the county's representative on McCain's Virginia leadership team, though he said his column reflected his views alone, and he denied it was racist.

I am ASHAMED to be a registered Republican. I hope and pray that America wakes up! If America votes McCain/Palin into the White House, God save our nation!

I'm registered Independent, but grew up in a red state with a family tree bursting with Republicans. I never realized before just how tawdry and foul the Republican leadership mindset is. Was it always this way? Was I blinded to just how bad it was because my dear old Grandpa swung the lever for the R? I feel ashamed by association.

Both sides have had their moments. But, I believe the nastiness started in earnest when the Rush Limbaughs, Hannity and Fox news began . If you ever get into fly-over country- that type of info is all that is available. The monopoly of Murdoch has helped make it so.

McCain, you are judged by the company you keep. Disgusting.

You know what ? WE allow this. How many times have you sat silent at some bigot's joke ? How often have YOU spoken up when you hear this crap ? White people will be thought of as being like this guy by a lot of non-whites as long as we don't say this is wrong in some format other than annonymous message boards. If you have friends or relatives who spout this kind of hate - you need to call them out or you are complicit too.

Thank you for pointing that out. As an African American if I open my mouth and protest or defend myself against this type of trash, I am villified and insulted even more (as if I am wrong for having the nerve to speak up). Many AA people deal with these insults and indignations daily , and yet many whites will say there is no racism and act like nothing is wrong.

Can anyone finally answer a question? Just simply "WHY must we go through this???

People are ignorant. But more of us are not.

Pathetic...leave it to the GOP. No wonder why I'll never be a republican. They seem to be comprised of the nastiest, meanest, racist, most ignorant people. The Democrats as a whole are a more compassionate, intelligent, accepting group of people. I will always be a Democrat.

I agree. The Republican party has resorted to name calling as their main campaign tactic. Rove and the rest have taken their party down. They have scared us into voting for those who have caused so much harm it will take decades from which to recover. They are so desperate that they will even make up "facts" to cause people to question Obama. I only hope Americans are sick of these ugly people and say, "No" to this hatred.

If you notice, you don't see this type of thing coming from the democratic party. Even though some would like to see Obama get nasty with McCain, he's refrained from doing so.

I would rather be called anything any person could think of except; "Republican"! As a white guy I would really like to distance myself from morons of this caliber. Sorry, to anyone that this garbage makes its way to.

I web-searched for Bobby Lee May and McCain-Palin. I think they took the page down at the McCain-Palin website, but I found the cached version. Here is what the relevant page stated about Bobby Lee May:

McCain 2008 Announces Virginia's Grassroots Leadership Team

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced Virginia's Grassroots Leadership Team. This team of local Virginia leaders will help organize and manage the campaign's grassroots efforts, including the "Get-Out-The-Vote" turnout operation, in each county and city across the Commonwealth of Virginia....

Bobby Lee May, Buchanan County chairman, said, "Buchanan County is exited [sic] to help John McCain's campaign. We are organized and enthusiastic about getting John McCain's positive message to Virginians. John McCain will help protect coal miners' jobs and our Second Amendment rights. We believe that John McCain has been tested and is the best person to lead our country in these times as we continue to need strong, proven leadership."

I guess this is John McCain's positive message.

I just called the newspaper, 'The Voice', at 276-881-8886, talked to Earl Cole, the owner, nice fellow, had a reasonable conversation about this article and the author, Bobby May (which was a challenge of course as inflammatory an article that it is and as mad as I am), and Earl said ANYONE who emails him a letter to the editor with their views about this column and/or Bobby May, HE WILL PRINT IT.

So here's Earl's email address:

mikrotecwildblue.comue.com

Haven't tried it yet so don't know if it works, but here's others in case it doesn't:

Ron Coleman: Email: yahoo.com2004@yahoo.com

Bobby May: Email: yahoo.comay@yahoo.com

Wade Rumney: Email: comcast.netcast.net

Karen Gent: Email: russell.k12.va.us.va.us

I'm emailing him, as well as the author, Bobby May, and hope others will do the same. This should NOT go unaddressed. This article is absolutely unacceptable in any reasonable, intelligent society, which ours is certainly suppose to be.

LET'S GO BLOGGERS!....GET THIS INFO OUT NOW. Let's show these people in Buchanan County that even though they maybe be in Virginia, they are also in THESE United States, and this sort of bigotry will NOT be allowed to pass in this country as acceptable.

I just sent an email. I'll see if I get a response.

Great. I already did. Ron Coleman should be noted has endorsed Senator Obama in this paper. He is my mother's first cousin and proof that Appalachia is not just Bobby Lee Mays. My mother and her huge extended family are from Buchanan County. (I am glad she moved to New Jersey but only because New York is just a stone's throw away.)

GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION? Well,Obama is a US senator,so is McCain. McCain is a Keating5 guy.Does that make Obama a Keating5 just by being a US Senator?

Let try again, while married to Sarah Parrot,Todd Palin registered as an AIP member, does that make Sarah a secessionist? Or McCain a secessionist sympathyser?

All of this nonsense is backfiring on the GOP.

Our economy is falling off a steep cliff, and these old white morons are still stuck in the dark ages.

Shame on McCain.

Yes we will!!!!!!
