Bull Durham

NY Post:

THE long-awaited sequel to "Bull Durham" is finally getting off the ground. A spy tells us Kevin Costner recently met with director Ron Shelton at Trader Vic's in LA to discuss reprising the role of carousing catcher Crash Davis from the 1988 baseball flick. Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are also expected to return as pitcher Nuke LaLoosh and baseball groupie Annie Savoy, who are now married and owners of a Major League team that Costner manages.

If you're batting 1,000 and your team executes a triple play in the bottom of the ninth, TAKE THE TROPHY AND GO HOME!

DO NOT -- I repeat -- DO NOT go for double or nothing.

Acting career on the skids? Make a sequel.
Stallone, Bruce Willis, Eddie Murphy , Harrison Ford turned their hits into sequels after their prime.

Can't wait for Marilyn Chamber sequel to The Green Door. It could be called "Rusted Hinges".

All of those named are franchise actors. Willis does sequels because he is a franchise actor, but he does indie and small roles too. His career is fine. See "16 Blocks", "Fast Food Nation", Grindhouse" and the upcoming "Assassination of a High School President".

What was the last good non-franchise movie Harrison Ford was in? Probably "Air Force One".

Best baseball movie ever. I even made a pilgrimage to the old Bulls stadium and proudly wear my Durham Bulls baseball cap.

Don't f*ck with it, Shelton. Anyway, we know Annie and Crash got together. Nuke would either be married to a model or divorced from a model.

That is going to be absolutely terrible.

Someone else mentioned the litany of names of actors who just can't carry a movie anymore and are forced to roll out sequels to their antique movies. Can't someone just mention that you still get paid and still get to act if you take second-lead rolls? Or character parts? A lot of these actors would do better to learn to work with other good actors, newer and younger actors, to get successful movies made, than to just continue their flop machines that they try to carry on their own.

Exactly. Are these guys so used to being the leads that they can't take a supporting role or do a low-budget movie? Some of these guys can actually do some decent acting if given the right material. It's not like they need more money. So why not spend the rest of their careers doing character roles? Look at someone like Paul Newman. He showed how an actor can enter old age and have class, take on smaller roles and still enjoy being an actor. He's a good role model for people like Harrison Ford or Kevin Costner.

Bull Durham is perfect just the way it is. Please don't make a sequel!

I like the way the film wrapped up on an open-ened note. Did Crash and Annie get together? Did Crash make it to The Show as a manager? Did Annie get to tell Crash all her crazy theories ( since he wanted to hear all of them?)

Nuke and Annie married? Nah, that wouldn't have happened.

It's honest work. We all need to pay our rent.

First Arnold Schwarzenegger, then Sylvester Stallone, then Bruce Willis, then Harrison Ford and now Kevin Costner. All has-beens from the 80s forced to revisit the roles that made them famous. In other words, they haven't had a hit in years and need to go out with one big blockbuster before retiring.
