Canadian Columnist's Palin Joke Draws Fox News Outrage

Heather Mallick, an opinion columnist for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Web site, is known for her use of humorous exaggeration. But last week after removing a column by Ms. Mallick, which said that Gov. Sarah Palin has "a toned-down version of the porn actress look" and suggested that Republican men were sexually inadequate, the government-owned CBC ruled that its opinion writers had to stick to the facts even when they were joking around.

Although the broadcaster's Web site, www.cbcnews.ca, has relatively few readers in the United States, Ms. Mallick's comments became an issue last month on the Fox News Channel, which, because of Canadian cable TV rules that limit its distribution, has relatively few viewers in Canada. Greta Van Susteren, the host of "On the Record," condemned the column as "beyond vicious" and repeatedly referred to Ms. Mallick as "a pig." A right-of-center columnist for The National Post, of Toronto, also criticized the column.

The CBC ombudsman, Vince Carlin, said in a report that his office had received more than 300 complaints about the column.

The level of vitriol leveled at Palin by Obamashills has overtaken the insane rants we heard directed at Hillary, where she was called every name under the sun in comments that even overtook the nuttiness of Ken Starr and Lucianne Goldberg in the 90s. Why are people so obsessed with Palin? I sent an email to her through her newspaper column email link several years ago and received a cordial response to my praise of one of her columns. I don't recall the specifics but I do remember her trashing the Bush administration about the war in some regard. I told I appreciated her strong stand, as our 'mischief' has international consequences and it was certainly appropriate for her to let her opinion smack us, so to speak.

Perhaps Heather Mallick did cross the line, after all Palin is the Vice Presidential candidate for the US. On the other hand, when Palin starts smearing Obama by claiming Obama is "palling around with terrorists" it clearly shows that not only is Palin a liar, she is little better than trailer trash. Which I guess is a few steps up from a porn actress.

Thank you Mrs Mallick for writing what the world must be thinking of the United States of America and the Republican Vice President candidate. (Dog gone it, you betcha...)

Fox News as usual is seething that anyone would point out the obvious in regards to Sarah Palin's lack of...well...you know, anything intelligent.

I am thankful that at least in Canada they still demonstrate what we use to call in the US "freedom of the press" and also in this case "common sense". Something that we seem not able to display or grasp recently.

Again my deepest apologies, from the people who first brought you George W. Bush.

Ms. Mallick is quite inappropriate to use such language on a VP Candidate. That is like saying Mr. Obama is like Twitch on "So You Think You can Dance". Dumb analogies. Or that Ms. Mallick patterns herself after nudibranchs (try Wikipedia). Equally as dumb as comparing Ms. Palin to a porn star.
So stay civil, don't Huff and puff, and have a nice night, and if you're not nice to all, you will have to sit in class after school and watch "Reefer Madness". Adios, D
