Monday on the "The View" Elisabeth Hasselbeck tried to defend John McCain on the subject of the Keating 5 while attacking Barack Obama over his relationship with Bill Ayers.

"This is not about smears," Hasselbeck insisted, adding moments later, "He [Obama] wants to hide all of his radical connections."

Watch Sherri, Whoopi and Barbara verses Elisabeth on Monday's show. Joy Behar was out.

Direct quote below from the Alaska Independence Party's website. I googled this weeks ago and saw another more vicious one which seems to have been taken down, which said something like, "there is no iceberg in the sea as big as the fire in my heart with hatred for the American flag." The one below is still posted on the site. WHY has NO reporter (gee, like any reporter can get anwhere near Princess Sarah...) challenged her to publicly denounce this party's platform? She won't, because after November she will have to go back and live there. Sarah Palin sent a video message of congratulations to the AIP 6 months ago for their "fine work", and all America is NOT outraged about this association? It makes Jeremiah Wright pale in comparison.

"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." (copied directly from the AIP's site.)

I was hoping the rumors were true that she was leaving the show. Then I could start watching again. I have no problem with differing viewpoints, but I do have a problem with someone that goes on a major television show and spews the right wing lies. And that's what they are: LIES.

Normally when people feel the freedom to spew lies about someone, us normal folk call it slander, smears, and outright lying.

So, Let me speak for all the Normal, Joe Six-pack, Hardworking Americans, and yes, Hockey moms when I say Palin & McCain are spewing slander, smears, and lies.

Then you my friend aren't too bright.

I remember when I first moved from New York to Los Angeles many years ago, one of the first observations I made was that Los Angelenos are less likely to tell you that they don't like you directly...there may be dislike (and even hatred), but it is very subliminal and veiled. New Yorkers (and East Coasters, in general) tend to be more direct in expressing their difference of opinion. Personally, I prefer the direct approach (less confusion in the long run), because the parties are able to achieve some sort of middle ground because their mutual feelings are known up front, and it affords an opportunity to discuss differences. That being said, I don't think we have to debate that a terrorist's motives are crystal clear...create terror, no matter who it hurts. On the other hand, modern-day Republican motives are not as easy to read. They complain about the inefficiency of government, but do nothing to improve it. They campaign to middle America promising more jobs as they continue to shift manufacturing overseas. They don't like taxes, but expect to be able to use them to bail out big business. I think David's brighter than you think.

Let me guess; you still believe that the GOP is "the party of conservative Christian family values:"

http://www.armchairsubversive.org

"Conservative Christian family values" like the locals in THE HILLS HAVE EYES or the court of Roman Emperor Caligula, but that's about it.

McSame, the happy lapdog of Charles Keating and the K Street crowd, who still can't tell a Sunni from a Shiite, can't even seem to remember which chateau he stashed Vickey Isemann in for after the election.

Not too bright? Interesting assessment from one consistently defending the very party that brought us Cheney's PNAC war for oil and empire in Iraq, costing We The People circa $10 billion in taxpayer dollars per month, 900+ *documented* lies about WMDs that McSame was parroting from the word go and all.

Not too bright indeed, ignoring overwhelming empirical data that proves thrice over that Marie Antoinette McSame and Moose-olini are utterly unfit to occupy the highest offices in the land.

I feel the same way about the religious (pick any major death cult). You would be foolish NOT to fear the rabid zealotry of these groups of violent hyper-nationalists, they are one charasmatic leader away from a reich.

I was told and learned Obama has an unique family tree connecting him to Rabbi -check it out as it will answer the questions of his name. Nothing to do with what Palin claims as she has not done her homework. Obama is genuine...

If you happen to meet a person 10 years ago turn out to be "marked" person... does that make you unqualified? com'on... we are much more educated than that... smear tactic in this economy... If GOP cannot focus on economy... our pocket money... as taxpayers... I am not sure if I can trust them to run the country... if we can not have our own pocket book straight... how can we go anywhere!

If anyone can tell me otherwise, I am willing to listen... POCKET BOOK FIRST!!! Our ECONOMY!!!

It amazes me that I live in the same country as these people do. I swear these smear tactics are ridiculous! I'm young and very new to the way politics work and I find it hard to believe that just because you know someone makes you think and/or act like they do. She sits on a panel with all of them and you can see she speaks for herself every episode. Sure the try to persuade her but ultimately she thinks for herself. It's the same difference. He sat on a board and met the guy does that mean he gets policy advice from him? Idk maybe I'm thinking too much into this crap....

We have an economic breakdown in the U.S. and Elisabeth wants to talk about so called radical associations. This move by the McCain camp will not work. McCain and Palin also are guilty by association. McCain with a man called John Singlaub. Palin's preacher who thinks that wichcraft is real.

It worse than just believed in witchcraft. He is a witch hunter. He threatened and chased a woman out of town for being a witch just because more than one car accident happened in her neighborhood !

Palin's husband belonged to a separatist/successsionist party in Alaska, but some how that is ok. The founder hated America because he wanted Alaska to be independent ! Sarah herself attended meetings and addressed them, but this gets no real play because she "looks American" and is "our" mean but sweetheart.

Elisabeth is copying Palin's signature look. The wrinkling of the nose. The pointed index finger. The airheaded personality.

What Obama is - is different. Not of the typical presidential cloth. His has a weird name, mixed heritage, extensive travel history, Baptized believer with a 20 year church affiliation...but wait - his pastor said something horrible (that must be Obama's position too! - because we all know we should totally disown anyone who says something we disagree with - never speak to or associate with them in this life or the after life...so what he is a Magna Cum Laude Harvard grad - Only a few people can make that claim - so yes, it demonstrates intelligence - and he did teach constitutional law - but is he real? I mean, he is so different - maybe we should all run now - black and white. Do you identify with anything here? Help us Lord, we assume that being different must means you are unworthy of the benefit of the doubt or respect!

McCain's relationship was more dispicable than most people know. He got off with a hand slap because he claimed he was remorseful and made himself look better than the other guys. If you look at it, you will see a pattern of deregulation and poor judgement , especially when it comes to money, deregulation, gambling, protecting the wrong people.

He prevented investigations into Katrina and limited the investigation into Jack Abramoff because it would have lead to his Republican friends.

I will like to ask Elezebeth about John Mccain Radical association by serving on the board for a group called the U.S. Council of World Freedoms headed by John Singlaub who was involved in the Iran Contra controversy. This extreme right-wing group were harboring racist, and antisemites back in 1981. John Mccain wasn't eight years old when this happened. He was a grown man. I personally don't think John Mccain is a racist, but there is an old saying,"two can play this game."

Well Elisabeth is right! Obama does not want to talk about his connections!!!!!!!Which are far too many for comfort!!!! And what happened to letting someone speak, my word they just attacked her. I understand they have different views, but they need to learn to let someone speak then express their thoughts. Unbelieveable!!!! Isn't the show the show called the VIEW................ I say Elisabeth quit the show and they rename it OUR VIEW

I doubt very much that cathybennett has any idea what the Alaska Independence Party
is. It is undisputed that Palin's husband is a member of a fringe group that wants
Alaska to secede from the United States of America.

Sarah Palin is married to Todd Palin, who seems to hate our country. Barack
Obama was only named to the same educational board that William Ayers
was on. And apparently Ayers donated $200 to one of Obama's campaigns in
the 90s. Oh -- and the crack investigators have established that Ayers and
Obama were in the same room on more than on occasion -- at meetings of
the aforesaid board.

You Republican Apologists are dim.

Could you please be specific about these alleged "connections" which are "far too many for comfort"? And please give specific, credible sources where you read/saw/heard about them? And FYI, I don't consider blowhards like Rush Limbaugh credible sources. People like him tend to make things up or bend the truth beyond recognition to suit their own purposes far too often, so I was thinking about more mainstream newspapers, news magazines, television news reports, etc., for you to quote to support your point of view. Thank you.
