Florida Palin Rally's Introductory Speaker Drops A "Hussein" Bomb

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott took the stage moments ago as one of the introductory speakers at a rally here for Sarah Palin. After delivering brief remarks in support of Palin, Sheriff Scott flipped the switch and used Barack Obama's middle name in order to incite the crowd of thousands of people who have already gathered here.

"On Nov. 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened," the law enforcement officer said.

For any sheriff of any state or municipality to stand before Americans and speak the sort of derisive, immature rhetoric used by Mike Scott, embarrasses Floridians and insults your sheriff's force. His words bordered on incitement to violence, as displayed by later shouts from the very audience he addressed. What a sad day for Democracy when a person of supposed authority disregards the responsibilities inherent in free speech and shows himself to be nothing more that a hate-peddler.

Mike Scott is a public servant and as such should not have worn that uniform. The State of Florida does not endorse a candidate. The laws of the State of Florida are very clear banning campaigning on government property. Wearing a uniform of the people of Florida also fall under this ban. It was a slap in the face of all tax payers for this man to do this. The real issue is not freedom of speech, but rather if Sheriff Mike Scott violated the law by campaigning while in uniform. Sheriff Scott is free to say what ever he wants as long it is not in his Officail Sheriff Uniform (which represents all citizens of Lee County Florida). And yes, The Lee County Sheriff's Department does recieves grants from the Federal Government just like every other law enforcement agency in the country. I have been in law enforcement for twenty eight years and have never seen such partisan disrespect for the uniform that was displayed by Sheriff Mike Scott. Where I'm from, we can't even go to the polls and vote while in uniform.

Sheriff Mike Scott's actions very well could be a violation of the Hatch Act.

I don't think that the Sheriff's office in Lee County receives any Federal funding. If they do then he did violate the Hatch Act (which by the way came into being because of the Democrats abuse of power) and needs to be disciplined. If not then he has every right to make an introductory speech to whomever he wants, even if he is in uniform. Would it have been better if he was not in uniform. Are you going to try and tell me that no one in Lee County would have recognized him?
