McCain's course correction reflects a growing case of nerves within his high command as the electoral map has shifted significantly in Obama's favor in the past two weeks.

"It's a dangerous road, but we have no choice," a top McCain strategist told the Daily News. "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose."

Being not one to hold something someone did decades ago against them, I would like to meet Mr. Ayers. Find out where his mind set is at. Some of our greatest saints were prolific sinners. Have we not erred at times? BIG error, but youth would do that to you. Is what he is doing now a reflection of the man? Does the religious right not believe in redemption? Who am I to judge? Too easy it overtruned the Glass-Steagall act which FDR put in place after the depression. The deregulation allowed one business to bleed over into others ie: banks being able to sell thier worthless mortgages to insurance companies. There were no more walls (barriers).
That is the main (not the only) reason we are in this mess.

Senator John McCain has always been a champion for the deregulation of Wall street. He was a leading supporter of the 1999 Phil Gramm sponsored legislation that repealed the Glass-Steagell act of 1933, an FDR measure that created walls between banking, investment, and insurance businesses so that problems in one arena could not bleed over into others-the major source of our current dilemma.
We would be remiss to overlook the fact that the same Phil Gramm is John McCain's head economic advisor and the man many say Senator McCain would put in charge of our economy if elected President.
The same Phil Gramm that just a couple months ago said when it comes to the economy we are in a "mental recession" and that we have become "a nation of whiners". Yet it is Senator McCain & Phil Gramms party that is now whining for the taxpayer to bail out the same companies that their deregulation allowed to run roughshod with the only consequence, it would seem, is for the CEO's to continue to take "Golden Parachutes" to the tune of billions of dollars.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act deregulated the financial markets, and removed most of the oversight.

It also repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, which had ensured that investment banks and commercial banks were kept separate, which was a protection for depositors.

It's that simple.

I have said this several times. If the voters are swayed by these fear and smear tactics again we are to blame. After the worse president in American history and another Rethuglican who wants to continue 90% of the same policies it is on us if Obama loses. It shows we get what we deserve the decline of our great nation and have become an Idiocracy.

I am a white dude so I can say this. It looks like that white men will be the only voting block that will vote for McCain in the majority. That makes my completely ashamed of not only voting for McCain but putting this country in the horrible situation we find ourselves in after 8 years with Bush.

White men as a group are the biggest hypocrites because we promote personal responsibility but blame everything on everyone else. Like blaming the financial crisis on minorities when it was greedy white men that caused the problem because of deregulating the housing market.
