"Message Nazi" Schmidt Pushed McCain To Pick Palin

In the wild ride that is the McCain presidential campaign, Steve Schmidt has been at the wheel, steering -- some say careering -- from Paris Hilton to Sarah Palin, from abrupt "suspension" to abrupt restart.

The effort peaked with the choice of Palin as McCain's running mate. Convinced that McCain needed a dramatic gesture to make the race competitive, Schmidt pressed McCain to pluck the Alaska governor from obscurity.

I would rather have seen him pick Paris Hilton, at least she would have been fun, and she has more grace than Palin

I believe that all these politicians who may potentially become President and Vice-President of the USA should be heavily scrutinized to ensure they are the right person for the job.

Is John McCain really just another President Bush? Did McCain really risk his own life fighting for the values and freedoms of Americans??

Personally, I think Schmidt overplayed his hand in this campaign and underestimated the feelings of the American public in general. Sure, not all are voting for McCain but he had to be careful because not all republicans prior to this election even liked McCain. He should have been thinking about how to move voters to McCain, but decided to play Jerry Springer instead.

It was always clear that Palin wasn't a McCain pick and that he wanted someone like Ridge or Liebermann. Had he had the backbone to make his own pick he'd be in a better place.

McCain has nowhere to go now but down. He can run away from President Bush, but he can't run away from the Republican Party. The Republicans will be regarded from now on as "the party that wrecked America." Over the weeks ahead, as carnage in the economy and the financial markets ramps up, it will become increasingly clear. It is important that this meme be spread through the internet. I urge all commentators to adopt and spread the idea that the Republicans are "the party that wrecked America." It will work because it is the truth. Use it freely. Just spread the word.
