ABC:

Election officials and watchdog groups are bracing for the wave of sneaky or suspicious phone calls, leaflets and emails that typically hit battleground states in the final 30 days of the presidential campaign.

Young voters at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Penn. have already been targeted, with students reporting that flyers have been posted around campus warning that undercover police will be at the polls on Election Day looking to make arrests.

The flyer reads like a friendly letter to fellow students relaying a warning from an "Obama supporter": "He informed me that on the day of the election there will be undercover officers to execute warrants on those who come to vote based on the anticipated turnout," writes the anonymous student in the letter which was later posted on the Drexel College Democrats website. "He advised me if I had any outstanding warrants or traffic offenses I should clear them up prior to voting."

am I missing something?

Are students more prone to be criminals?

Why would students specifically be afraid of "the law?"
06:02 PM on 10/07/2008
I was wondering the same thing.

>Why would students specifically be afraid of "the law?"

Here's why. And why we all should. (well except for us here in Oregon, who vote by mail)

When Republicans cannot suppress enough votes, then they are guaranteed to lose. The only option now is for everyone who is registered to make sure they get out and vote. Election fraud can never affect a landslide.

If you are aware of ANY discrepancy in the access to vote in the general election in your state, call these people and let them know.

Republicans are starting to close down satellite offices serving as early voting sites. So vote early before they target your state.

Why do Republicans hate the American people?
09:55 AM on 10/07/2008
Because they are Unconstitutional traitors?

Wow. And this in the country which is always hectoring others about democracy. I know of NO European country where this happens. In fact I can't even IMAGINE it happening. Quite extraordinary.

Except maybe in Italy. 50-odd years ago.

Unfortunately, Obama camp is stooping to the level of Repubs by registering German tourists in Ohio...what on Earth would possess them to try such a stupid tactic???

Still, these Drexel students should make sure they register a complaint with DNC and we need to see lawyers out informing law enforcement that such tactics will be met with stiff lawsuits for any police department attempting any such shenanigans.

"Unfortunately, Obama camp is stooping to the level of Repubs by registering German tourists in Ohio...what on Earth would possess them to try such a stupid tactic???"

The good thing about the internet is that everything is on the internet. The bad thing about the internet is that everything is on the internet. Obviously, NTO can differentiate between the two. NTO08 - victim of a republican upbringing in the tradition of Dan Quayle and Sarah Palin.
10:26 AM on 10/07/2008
NTO.... I've searched the internet using several search engines and I find nothing but rumors (and very few of those) indicating that this is true. One website (a right wing web site gowilkes.com) says it happened in NY state.

You're a typical republican liar.

Obama/Bidon '08. YEAH !!!
12:32 PM on 10/07/2008
What are the republicans thinking. For god's sake! Those are people kids. They can vote! Don't you try and scare them! It's their future too. Is this a America? Home of the free and land of the brave? These kids are young thinking adults. They study hard, work and pay taxes too! You leave them alone!!!
11:53 PM on 10/06/2008
Okay, here's my question:

Why is it that everybody assumes this is a Republican tactic? They didn't say they would be arresting Democrats, just people with outstanding warrants.

Why is it always assumed, that criminals vote Democrat?

"It's basically a deterrent to keep people away from voting," said Allen Raymond, a former Republican operative who went to prison for three-months in 2006 for his involvement in a scheme to jam the phones at headquarters of the Democratic get-out-the vote effort in New Hampshire in 2002. "

Just read--from fivethirtyeight:

"Today was the final day of voter registration in Indiana, and we'll have the final numbers for you after the official tally comes in, but here in Bloomington we learned from Obama student GOTV coordinator Jim Snaza that nearly 11,000 Indiana University students have registered to vote since August 15. Approximately 1,000 came in just today."

Indiana University

I think Indiana may go blue this time--first since Johnson in 1964.

Well they will have to get up and go vote...that is the test for these young people. Good for them for registering...Bush's world is being handed down to the students who will be the workers of tomorrow...they NEED to vote and stay vigilant.
01:29 AM on 10/07/2008
Registering is all fine and dandy, but these kids need to show up at the polls...the proof will be in the pudding...historically, the rhetoric was never met with raw voter turnout from young people.

So why worry about it you repuke stooge. What is met?

Tell that to Obama forces registering German tourists in Ohio...

We don't need Obama camp mimicking the dirty tactics of Repubs...but since Obama is from that dirtiest of dirty political cities, I am not surprised.
