Mcpalin

By suggesting that Barack Obama's relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright is a legitimate campaign issue, Sarah Palin appears to have sunk below the standard espoused by John McCain himself earlier this year.

In an interview with neoconservative columnist Bill Kristol, Palin said: "To tell you the truth, Bill, I don't know why that association isn't discussed more, because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that -- with, I don't know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn't get up and leave -- to me, that does say something about character. But, you know, I guess that would be a John McCain call on whether he wants to bring that up."

But the fact is, McCain has already made his call on whether he wants to "bring that up" fairly clear. Beyond deciding not to do so himself, he offered some implicit criticism for anyone else who would.

In March, after being given the opportunity by Fox News' Sean Hannity to hit his opponent on Wright, McCain refused.

"I think that when people support you, it doesn't mean you support everything they say. Obviously, those statements are things none of us would associate ourselves with," McCain said.

After Hannity listed more potential reasons to make Wright an issue, McCain drew a deep breath and decided not to go there. "I do know Sen. Obama, he does not share those views."

In April, after the North Carolina Republican Party uncorked an attack ad linking Obama and Wright in April, McCain asked that they put it back in the box. While candidates often distance themselves from the tougher party-issued ads, McCain went further than that. As the Associated Press reported at the time:

"We asked them not to run it," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus in Kentucky Wednesday. "I'm sending them an e-mail as we speak asking them to take it down.

"I don't know why they do it. Obviously, I don't control them, but I'm making it very clear, as I have a couple of times in the past, that there's no place for that kind of campaigning, and the American people don't want it," McCain said.

McCain said the ad was described to him: "I didn't see it, and I hope that I don't see it."

Does McCain now think the American people want a discussion of Wright from his running mate? The Huffington Post has asked a McCain campaign spokesperson for an update.

THAT was the John McCain I had so much admiration and respect for.......has anyone seen that John McCain recently?

On another note - I was on the local NBC affiliate 5 o'clock news today here in Denver (9 News) regarding being a family owned and operated business who has had to lay my own daughters off and now I run our business alone. The story was about local businesses and how sales tax revenues are down (the state announced today they have put a freeze on hiring and on construction). I did get one "hate call" from another business owner (they would not reveal themselves) who stated she had crunched the numbers and she would have to lay off many if not all of her 12 employees if Mr. Obama wins - she had "crunched" his corporate numbers repeatedly - to which I replied I am not a corporation and my daughters have been with me all of their lives and I have already let them go - additionally, this election is not all about me, is it? Then I thanked her for her call, wished her a lovely evening, said good bye and hung up. Just thought I would share that with you all.

I don't think she went against him. He is just sending her out to do the dirty work. They have a two pronged attack. He is talking down Obama's qualifications, and she is talking down his associations. It is as simple as that. I don't blame them, it is their last resort. It is a shame I have no clue how McCain stands on anything. He keeps saying noone knows what Obama will do, but does anyone know what McCain's plans are? If his plans are anything like his campaign, I would not be feeling too secure. Look how he mis-handled the financial crisis. ONe minute he was all for firing this guy, and for not doing this, and the next minute he changed his mind, and then he figured it was bad enough to call a halt to his campaigning, and the next thing you know he is back and going to a debate. Make up your mind, already!! No, I like Obama's level headed approach to things, his calm in a time of crisis. She can say all she wants about Obama, it will get old after awhile, especially with bank statements coming out. Yikes, a lot of people are going to be upset, and not because of J Wright.

Since Palin herself brought up Reverend Wright herself as a legitimate issue, I think it is now fair game to probe more deeply into her religious background and the pastors who have influenced her world view.

How may interviews will she grant based on this issue (or any other, for that matter)?

we should also be looking further into the membership of her and husband to that Alaskan Independence Party....

if she loves this country so much, why the hell were they part of a group that advocated to secede???

DON'T YOU LOVE AMERICAN GOVERNOR??? And if it wasn't you, it was husband... you can't tell me you sleep next to this man every night and you don't know what he is involved in

Palin wears way to much makeup. She looks like a harlot. When they showed her on the tarmac the other day it looked like someone had over adjusted the saturation on the screen just on her face. Anyone that has to use THAT much makeup has some issues.

How can Palin continue to PRETEND to be a Christian when she is so vicious with cutting down Obama, many times, even with no truth to the accusation?? She certainly is no kind of "Christian" I ever heard about! She did the same thing diuring the Republican convention, and she still presents herself as being "Christian"!

Also, when are we going to hear the story about her witch doctor priest? God knows we have certainly heard weeks and weeks of Obama's Jeremiah Wright.

That's what I don't understand either. I'm a Christian but as a Christian you're not supposed to do the things McCain and Palin are doing and saying, it's a contradiction. What's also contradicting are the people they're pandering to, conservative Christians, obiviously they think the same:

http://forums.crosswalk.com/forumid_82/tt.htm

All I see are messages of hate, rumors with no thruth based to them, but these lost souls believe what's being sold to them. Try to tell them that what they're hearing from Fox or any other source that's about as close to the Bible in their opinion, and they won't hear it and come up with all these silly excuses for their party. When called on the hate and lies they start as threads, they say it's the truth, but when told how their own candidates have done or said, or are associated with others based on their reasoning, they won't hear it and say you're not a Christian and fall short of saying you're going to hell.

I agreed their behavior is un Christian.

In one of the "interviews" with Palin she stated that she was no longer a member ANY church.

Does that makes her one of the "unchurched" unchristian folks?

And in her 2007 tax return she lists only 1.5% of income as contributions to charity. In the 2006, with a lower income, it was 3.5% contributions to charity.

When there's a difference between what a person says they are, and what they actually do, I look to the behavior to find the truth.

McCain and Palin's behavior are IMO unChristian.

Any contradictions like this (past ,present and future) you can expect the campaign to proudly laugh off as them being a team of mavericks. Not that anyone except the most programmed are buying the line, but that's what McPalin will say. GO OBAMA BIDEN!

This clip brings back memories of the "Old John McCain", the one with standards and values. I really don't know what made this man abandon the values he once held in such high esteem. The only thing I can surmise is that he was never the "Old John McCain" in the first place and who we see now is the only person he ever was.
Well, he is a gambling man and I think he is all in on this campaign.
Beyond all of this there is something I find really troubling. As an American I am proud of my country and proud of its values. For so long we were the beacon of hope for so many around the world. To be American was to be synonymous with greatness. United we stand and divided we fall. You can say I'm naive but in my core these are the values I hold dear as a woman, as a minority, as an American. John McCain and Sarah Palin claim to put country first, but all the while they seek to incite a culture war pitting one American against another all in the name of their campaign. It's sad. I can only hope we aren't so easily distracted and enticed into culture warfare. It’s decidedly un-American. I just know we are all so much better than this.
