By suggesting that Barack Obama's relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright is a legitimate campaign issue, Sarah Palin appears to have sunk below the standard espoused by John McCain himself earlier this year.

In an interview with neoconservative columnist Bill Kristol, Palin said: "To tell you the truth, Bill, I don't know why that association isn't discussed more, because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that -- with, I don't know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn't get up and leave -- to me, that does say something about character. But, you know, I guess that would be a John McCain call on whether he wants to bring that up."

But the fact is, McCain has already made his call on whether he wants to "bring that up" fairly clear. Beyond deciding not to do so himself, he offered some implicit criticism for anyone else who would.

In March, after being given the opportunity by Fox News' Sean Hannity to hit his opponent on Wright, McCain refused.

"I think that when people support you, it doesn't mean you support everything they say. Obviously, those statements are things none of us would associate ourselves with," McCain said.

After Hannity listed more potential reasons to make Wright an issue, McCain drew a deep breath and decided not to go there. "I do know Sen. Obama, he does not share those views."

In April, after the North Carolina Republican Party uncorked an attack ad linking Obama and Wright in April, McCain asked that they put it back in the box. While candidates often distance themselves from the tougher party-issued ads, McCain went further than that. As the Associated Press reported at the time:

"We asked them not to run it," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus in Kentucky Wednesday. "I'm sending them an e-mail as we speak asking them to take it down.

"I don't know why they do it. Obviously, I don't control them, but I'm making it very clear, as I have a couple of times in the past, that there's no place for that kind of campaigning, and the American people don't want it," McCain said.

McCain said the ad was described to him: "I didn't see it, and I hope that I don't see it."

Does McCain now think the American people want a discussion of Wright from his running mate? The Huffington Post has asked a McCain campaign spokesperson for an update.

Maybe Sarah's voodoo witchdoctor preacher can sacrifice a couple of chickens and cast a spell that will keep her from being indicted for tax evasion for not claiming those per diem payments as income.

Since Obama did not agree to do the series of town hall meetings with McCain, the heels are on - I mean the gloves are off.
McCain will say that due to Obama's tactics and unwillingness to debate him face to face, it is ok to bring up Wright.
Come on, McCain is allowing Obama to be called a terrorist. Do we think he is going to hold anyone back from anything anymore? John is hopping mad that his last chance at the President is slipping away, and his scruples are slipping away with it.

This is politics at it's most despicable. Palin started at it right away, and didn't even have to warm up to it first. Keep that in mind in 2012 when she comes back to pray the whole country red. While she is at it she will pray away the gays, pray the Jews into Gentiles, and pray evolution right out of our schools.

Let McCain's camp open up the character issue. Which candidate helped crater the S&Ls? Which candidate is still married to his first wife and which one committed adultery? Which graduated at the top of his class and which at the bottom? Which offered legal protection to domestic terrorists who target abortion clinics? Whose campaign went broke and whose has been run phenomenally, historically well?

Character issues in the middle of financial china syndrome? Bring it on Mac and Winky!

I think the whole McCain/Palin camp are just playing low, dirty, and desperate politics. In this time of economic woes around the world and especially right here in America, McCain/Palin certanily aren't putting country first. If they were they would focus on that and let people know exactly what they're going to do, but instead they spew out lies and some comments that are borderline racist. What's scary to me are both candidates claim to be Christian and try to play this up to the upmost for their base, but what tyep of Christian slanders another with vicious and false accusations. There are actually people who are Christians who are believing this mess that's been said about Obama lately; check it out:

Think ahead two years. Palin will be running for re-election as governor of Alaska. Her approval ratings in Alaska are tanking since she began her run for the veep spot. She's probably already wondering what she was thinking in agreeing to go on this fool's folly with McCain. The bright glare of day is shining on Sarah in a way that it never shined on her in her Alaska governor's run. The people there are now finding out all kinds of things about Sarah Palin and it ain't pretty. This will create a great atmosphere and lots to work with for whoever decides to challenge her for her job. She is an embarrassment to Alaska as well as to the country as a whole. Besides working her rear off for a lost cause and putting her baby and pregnant daughter on the back burner, the final insult would be to lose her job in Alaska as well. We'll be watching and cheering for her opponent (Republican or Democrat) from the sidelines.

I don't think she's a deep enough thinker to connect that many dots. She's entranced with the spotlight that's on her and she's playing it for all it's worth. I agree that she will have hell to pay when she gets sent back to Alaska, but unless a lot of people up there change parties, she will still have plenty of support and her sights set on the next election. Interestingly, she and Huckabee will be playing to the same audience the next time around.

Oh yes, McCain knows exactly what Sarah is doing and she has a lot of nerve. Will she be able to take the hits when ads start talking about her. What is she going to do? Tear up and cry? I guess that she will get some sympathy and maybe a few votes that way.

LOL. We already know that she can't take the heat. The McCain camp and her folks have been whining about how mean the media is to her. Next, she'll trot out her stylist, her children, and 5th grade teacher.....

McCain better watch his back that woman wants his job. Her ego seems without bounds, she is unscrupulous and clearly doesn't care what the top of her ticket wants.
I never thought someone could be more negative and divisive for our country than the current regime...then I hear Palin....SCARY!

I agree. I'm sure that she realizes she's the person who draws the crowds, not him. I think she's smart when it comes to stabbing in the back to get what she wants. I'm sure McCain's handlers have also let her know she's the reason John McCain is getting any votes at all. I'm sure it's all gone to her head. They're setting her up for something, so even when they don't win the election this year, and Alaska shuns her, the neo-cons have seen her power of persuasion and will use her later on for their agenda.
She and her husband TAAAAAAADDDDDD are power hungry enough to go there. They just need to get rid of the d e a d weight (McCain) first.

Especiallty scary if you watch the Pastor Muthee video. It makes one think she may believe she has an appointment with destiny! The "Marriage" of Palin and the neocon / religious right-wing of the GOP is perfect because they need a charismatic tool, and she needs a brain-trust..

McCain/Palin are not mavericks, nor quality leaders. A quality leader does not lead with fear inducing messages and right now, that`s all they have. Negativity and Attack. Bob and Weave, Frick and Frack.

McCain is a spoiled, selfish, rogue and always has been.

Russia, China, UK. They are amazed that the American public could actually consider and are debating whether or not to put these neo-crusaders in the White House. (it is a JOKE to our allies and adversaries alike)

Our once mighty and powerful nation has drawn the ire of the world as well as their laughter.

It`s not funny anymore.

Unfortunately, at least 4 of the last 8 years (if not all 8) , the decisions made by the Bush admiinistration have made the United States a JOKE worldwide! Only, it's a really, really BAD joke -- and most other countries aren't laughing anymore!

The only way that we can change the ridiculous image made by the current White House is to make a stand in the voting booth. Even if a voter doesn't like Obama -- for whatever reason -- for the sake of this country's integrity, they are going to HAVE to vote for him over the McCain-Palin fiasco.

I agree -- "our...nation has drawn the IRE of the world" AND "it's not funny anymore!!" Very well said!

It's too bad McCain has lost his memory or he would have taken a lesson from the primaries where these tactics were used and propelled Obama on to victory. Either McCain's campaign is just not up to doing the job on his behalf or McCain simply won't listen to them. Sara is nothing and shouldn't merit any mention in any write ups as all she is doing is preaching to the choir who don't what problems the country has or the citizens as long as the party wins.

I find it amazing that a woman who has a damned witch doctor chanting rhetoric over HER body would dare bring up anyone's religious background.

He is not a witch doctor; he is a christian pastor who has accused numerous kenya women of witchcraft, an accusation that has lead to the murder of those women and the burning of their property. In other words, he's worse than a witch doctor; he's a witch hunter.

I seriously wonder if this witch doctor has really managed to fully de-witch her, as seen in this uncanny clip. Maybe she is even convinced she is a witch herself, and all she has to do is to bewitch whoever comes near her, like Karsai, Zardari, Kissinger, McCain, Kristol...

Is America immune against such witchcraft? Or are more than half of the voters open for GOP bigotry? You know, witches can just wave their magic wands, play a magic tune on the flute, protrude their chin and dance and chant "swish - lie is truth, swish - lie is truth", and depending on the degree of dementia of their clients, lies really become truths...

until everybody wakes up.

Of course John McCain put her up to this. That is what she was picked to do. She is the attack dog.
John Mccain is loosing and he will do anything to win. He has lost his honor and dignity already. so what else has he got to lose.

In May, Cindy McCain said that "none of this negative stuff though you won't see come out of our side...My husband is absolutely opposed to any negative campaigning at all....We'd rather not win than have to do that. That's not worth winning for."
