When Politico's Ryan Grim approached Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after the evening of the Senate bailout vote, the reporter didn't even get his question out.

"Excuse me, you're bothering me," McCain said.

It was a surprising rebuke from a politician who once was famous for palling around with reporters, and who was so media-friendly that he was sometimes known as "the senator from 'Meet the Press.'"

But what friends call "grumpy McCain" is showing up regularly on the campaign trail, and several top advisers worry that it's hurting his campaign by making him appear peevish and hunkered down when the country is looking for a larger and more optimistic brand of leadership.

Many have commented about the historic nature of this campaign because Barack Obama is poised to be the first African-American President of the United States of America. I believe there is a more interesting way to look at it. John McCain will earn the dubious distinction of being the first White American to lose a presidential bid to an African-American and that is why he is grumpy. McCain will do and say anything not to be a two-time loser, to an African-American no less. That is why McCain/Palin are engaging in neo-Nazi rabid nationalism.

McCain, by inviting his supporters to call Senator Obama a terrorist and by standing silently by at McCain/Palin campain rallies as people call for Senator Obama's assassination, has bankrupt his honor as a war hero as the Republican party policies have bankrupted this nation. The McCain/Palin campaign has devolved into something that we should all be sickened by.

Tonight McCain will attempt to be endearing, charming, charismatic., humorous (maybe even share a beer).........set an Emmy aside. Senator Obama can just be himself, how fortunate.

Dear Mr. McCain,

You have crashed enough navy planes, causing deaths to your colleagues, You've really done enough for this country and we appreciate your service to this country. Take a break, and do some R&R; there's no need for you to crash the whole country for us.. You are a mavrick. Thank you so much.

If he's so uncomfortable with this tactic and so not the guy who is doing it, why doesn't he stop the madness? Really...these folks blame everyone and everything else but themselves for their ignorant, toxic behavior.

Who are they gonna blame when they lose on November 4th?

Bunch of babies...

they shouldn't worry about him becoming "grumpy mccain" they should fear him becoming mount mccain because he will lose his temper. he will attack obama and obama will hit back hard. this will cause mccain to finger point and yell.

The great actors Jack and Walter could have made room for John in their next movie, if they were only alive.
