Brigitte Bardot

French film legend-turned-activist Brigitte Bardot took a swipe at Sarah Palin on Tuesday, saying the US vice presidential candidate was a disgrace to women.

"I hope you lose these elections because that would be a victory for the world," Bardot wrote in an open letter to Republican John McCain's running mate in the November vote.

"By denying the responsibility of man in global warming, by advocating gun rights and making statements that are disconcertingly stupid, you are a disgrace to women and you alone represent a terrible threat, a true environmental catastrophe," wrote Bardot.

The screen icon from the 1960s, who now heads an animal rights foundation, went on to assail Palin for supporting Arctic oil exploration that could jeopardize delicate animal habitats and for dismissing measures to protect polar bears.

"This shows your total lack of responsibility, your inability to protect or simply respect animal life," Bardot wrote.

In a final salvo against Palin, the 74-year-old ex-star picked up on Palin's depiction of herself as a pitbull wearing lipstick and said she "implored" her not to compare herself to dogs.

"I know them well and I can assure you that no pitbull, no dog, nor any other animal for that matter is as dangerous as you are," Bardot wrote.

I hope no one told Ms Bardot about shooting wolves from aircraft. It might give her a heart attack. What disgusting "sport" done by disgusting people..

That really did it for me! I already did not admire any of her convictions but then shooting wolves from helicopters, causing the suffering of animals who are just trying to survive and raise their young, for sport, is truly undignified and sinful to me.
If God exists he would not be smiling down on this one.

Aerial Hunting set my brain on fire!! I am disgusted and appalled!! There are must-see videos on youtube of aerial hunting and how sarah palin supports all this. The videos are painstakingly inhumane and cruel. I was almost in tears. In addition, she allotts $150.00/leg of a wolf from federal funds!

This may be part of the problem with the United States. jymfrancais just said he has been living here for 20 years, the United States, but still refers to France as "home". I'm sure in the past twenty years you have had plenty of opportunity to go back "home", but you chose to stay here. Why? Was it financial? Maybe you've made your money , now the US has nothing to offer you?

What would the US will have to offer to my teenage daughter if Mc Cain is elected?
thats the real question here.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:35 PM on 10/09/2008

I just want to ask you a question. If you had moved to another country, would you still consider yourself an American? Would you still consider it home? If I had $5, I would bet that you would. I know when my family lived overseas and my father was making his money, we still referred to ourselves as Americans.
I'm with you Jymfrancais. I think the French definitely have some things right. That's one country that answers to its citizens, as far as I can tell, instead of corporations. We need more of that fight, that vigilance, in America. We'd be better off.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:16 PM on 10/09/2008

jymfrancais has been in the USA about the same ammount of time I have. I still call England home and I visit home nearly every year, this year I spent my "Stimulus package" there.

America is fun for a while, and one can make a bit of money. After a while the novelty wears off, and that has been happening more rapidly during the last eight years.

Why is this a problem with the United States? You have foreigners with skills who will come and work for a while and help your economy and then go home. I see it as a benefit, since we pay taxes and social security and get none of that back.

jymfrancais,
I hear you very well.
Just don't forget that Sarkozy is probably worst than McCain and definitely is Mr. Bush's little puppet.
If Sarkozy cannot do as Bush and McCain in France, is because of France's strong unions.

One does not have to agree with the idea that "man" is the problem with global climate change as long as one agrees with the idea that a cleaner planet is the common goal. Ms. Bardot is not a nice person just because she likes dogs and climate change.

You cannot possibly solve a problem efficiently until you have isolated the cause. It is evident.
Treat the cause, not the symptoms.

If you disagree that "man" is not the problem or not the contributor of global warming, how will you take measures to excise the problem? Are you in la la land??

God bless this woman? For what? I don't get it. Who listens to Bridgett Bardot? And furthermore who cares what she says? It honestly makes no sense to me why anyone listens to the dribble that comes out of Hollywood. No one person could be more removed from reality than an actor , singer , or worse, washed up actress like Bridgett Bardot.

Seems to me you're talking about it. Seems to me the "Hollywood dribble" makes it to the news headlines. It's a fact, whether you like it or not. On the other hand, your opinions haven't made many headlines lately. Perhaps, if you had been in your younger years as beautiful and talented as Bardot was in hers, we'd be listening to you too. Life's unfair, honey. God wanted you plain.

Oh, Gawd, I am finally beginning to enjoy an election. Watching the religious "wrong" begin to twist slowly in the wind is a long awaited thrill. Thank you Bridgette. I loved you when I was young. I love you more now. By the way, I am a Christian, but I cannot say "like Palin, I'm a Christian, too."" My God is the prince of peace, hers is the demon of war.

It seems to me that Palin should be disfellowed from her church. Are they Christians ?

These comments of Brigette Bardot are telling for many things. The most important of which is that she was often considered just "eye candy" but rose above it to become one of the most influential female figures of our time.

I applaud Madam Bardot for her clarity and decisive statements about the mindlessness of Sarah Palin. More women of stature should stand up and let the world know that this self-professed pitbull (What an insult to pitbulls!) is not ready for PRIME TIME!

Sarah Palin is classless because she is mindless. Simple as that.

In the meantime we must keep our eye on the prize--"We'll keep on fighting till the end".

Perhaps another perspective on Sarah Palin is warranted. How about Michelle Obama on Sarah Palin on Larry King:

"I think she provides an excellent of example of all the different roles that women can and should play," Michelle Obama responded. "I'm a mother with kids and I've had a career and I've had to juggle. She's doing publicly what so many women are doing on their own privately. What we're fighting for is to make sure that all women have the choices that Sarah Palin and I have."

I think MIchelle was just being gracious and nice, something Palin is not capable of doing with her ridiculous comments about Barack "paling" with terrorists.

But FirstShirt, those hits for the Democrats are good, though!

Perhaps if Republicans were nicer, more logical and humane people, support for them would pour in from everyone, including the "hasbeen and wannabe market", as you so kindly put it. So, don't hate, dude/dudette, congratulate!

What happened to my previous comment? What's going on here? I don't like Sarah Palin, but I like BB even less.Anyone with half a brain who knows a bit about French politics knows BB is a dangerous nutter ,who should not be taken seriously. All those people gushing about BB "telling it like it is" would be shocked what she has to say about Muslims and blacks.
