Letterman Mccain

David Letterman has spent many days knocking John McCain for canceling on his program because he had to rush to Washington to fix the nation's financial crisis only to be found giving an interview to Katie Couric in New York at the exact time he was due on the "Late Show." But now it appears, according to a report in Tuesday's New York Post, that Letterman may be willing to forgive McCain.

The Post's Don Kaplan reports that the two are negotiating an appearance around the third and final Presidential debate, which takes place in New York:

David Letterman and Sen. John McCain are talking about making up.

McCain representatives and "Late Show" executives are negotiating an appearance on Letterman's show sometime around the final presidential debate on Oct. 15, according to knowledgeable sources.

McCain is expected to be in the New York area that week for the debate at Hofstra University on Long Island.

Representatives for both the McCain campaign and the Letterman show declined to comment yesterday.

So there ya go. It'll work out better for McCain, 'cause he'll get exposure closer to the election.

Letterman should snub him until after the election, when McCain can do his "I wasn't aware of the things my campaign was saying and doing tour."

Letterman is in entertainment so making peace with McCain makes sense but he shouldn't cowtow to him. Make McCain work for it.

Letterman should treat this seriously and insist that McCain:
1) Apologize to Letterman and his viewers
2) Admit that he lied about his motivations for canceling his appearance. (McCain has publicly stated that he has NEVER LIED about anything.....EVER!)
3) Explain why he feels that his conscience is clear regarding the extremely negative tone his campaign has taken after he and his wife repeatedly promised that they would keep it clean and focus on the issues--no character attacks.

Right on labman57. McCain lied and was caught. Since his negative ads seem to be all about alledged lies by Obama, YES, require McCain to admit that he lied and, YES, apologize. But, of course, his handlers would probably agree and then if/when he came on it would never happen.

This would be a WONDERFUL show to see if McCain actually does it. Dave is NOT going to let it go and you can bet your LIFE he will chide McCain. I think Dave would like NOTHING better than to get McCain on the show JUST to make fun of him. It's NOT because McCain canceled on him, it's because McCain LIED to him about the REASON for doing it.

I would be wonderful but it won't happen like that. The negotiations between the McCain camp and Letterman's staff will include terms that protect McCain from criticism. In no other way would McCain agree to appear.

Then he will not show up....So what??

Dave will tell his audience what the terms were that he would have had to agree; that he refused; and McCain pulled out.

(And right before or after the final debate....LOL. no loss for Dave!)

Dave, he used you to announce his candidacy, but when he no longer need you--he dumped you from his ticket. I say invite him on and then you pull a "no-show." Empty seats for an empty suit!

I'll bet that this blows up in McCain's face because Dave isn't one to just let things slide. Recall O'Reilly on a few years ago. McCain will come on and try some self-deprecating humor and Dave will let rip some deadpan cutting insults that everyone will quickly understand.

So, I really don't know why people are telling Dave not to do this. McCain has the greater downside.

Why would Letterman care? McCain/Palin are already yesterday's news.

Aw, this sucks. McCain's going to swallow his considerable pride and USE Letterman in an even more blatant way to reach out to people he hates. And now SNL is going to feature Sarah Palin on a show? This will be funny if we can look back on it AFTER Obama wins, but doing it before the election just stinks like 10 tons of manure in a 5-ton truck.
