Letterman

David Letterman may be in talks to have John McCain on his show again, but that doesn't mean he's laying off the Senator for lying to him when he backed out of a scheduled appearance late last month.

On Monday night's "Late Show," Letterman went after McCain again, this time making light of his decision to abandon his campaign efforts in Michigan:

"John McCain has pulled out of Michigan, I guess the surge wasn't working. Yep, this is stunning to me. John McCain blew off Michigan. Well, I know how they feel. I know how they feel. Maybe you noticed that all of John McCain's problems began when he bailed out on this show, were you aware of that? The road to the White House runs right through here."

I'm sure that McCain knows that Dave is absolutely right in that the road to the White House "runs right through here." Why flip off such a public figure? I just don't think McCain wants to be president under the circumstances. He certainly doesn't want to debase himself in the largest public forums, like the debates, with the nonsense he and Palin spew to the crowds of base voters. He's a maverick, but he cares, for whatever reason about his legacy, his honor, and it's at odds with his overwhelming desire to be rewarded with the presidency of these United States.

The other reason he doesn't want to win: The challenges ahead will be daunting and sustained for some period.

This seems like a trivial and light weight story, but in reality it shows how McCain has changed from an honorable guy who was well liked by everyone in the media including David Letterman who always fawned over him, into a furtive, unreliable and flighty character who is troubled and troublesome. McCain's fall from grace really did start at about this time since his numbers have now tanked. Obama is at 52% in today's Gallup poll. McCain is down to 41% which is a shocking number. But it will probably go much lower. As McCain and Palin now stoop to reprehensible race baiting and incitement to violence, they will be condemned by not just the NYT which called it "appalling," but virtually everyone.

Has anyone noticed the hatred manifested by the Left Wing Liberals in the field of entertainment? Notice Susan Sarandon, Joy Behar, Sandra Bernhard, David Letterman, Bill Maher, adinfinitum when they discuss President Bush. Now some of the heat is off Bush because now they hate Sarah Palin. What an unhealthy environment they provide for themselves. Poor Letterman is trying nightly to combine hatred with comedy and it just doesn't work. I don't think I ever heard a nasty word out of the mouths of the great ones like Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Lucile Ball, Bob Newhart etc. I have to wonder if the audiences today realize what they're missing.....

nonsense. You have got to be kidding.

Letterman is upset that McCain lied to him. It is that simple. A phone call or an in person visit from McCain to offer an apology would resolve the situation.

Not acknowledging the lie is what is fueling Letterman's rants.

What about the other night on Greg Fergison's show? The Smothers brothers seem to have a way of pointing out the absurd. I remember how they helped wake the public up before Nixon had their show canceled.

Letterman is going beat this horse until its dead, and then when he's sure it's dead he's going to kick it a few more times for good measure!

Poor David has his feelings hurt. McCain is gaining in the polls. According to Zogby, he is only down by 2% now. After the second debate last night, he will gain more ground. It is funny how people claimed Biden won the debate against Palin, yet McCain's poll numbers went up. Now I see people are claiming Obama won last night, but I think McCain's numbers will continue to rise.

I bet McCain would dress up like a clown and sit in a dunk tank to get back on Letterman now.
