McCain Touts Former Ebay CEO As Company Makes Drastic Cuts

McCain touts the economic prowess of, and suggests as a future Treasury Secretary Meg Whitman, the former CEO of eBay and someone who he has turned to for economic advice in the past. Normally, this is a solid point for McCain to press, highlighting entrepreneurship and the growth of female business leaders. The problem: eBay just announced that it was firing 10 percent of its work force.

Meg Whitman proved once and for all what a disaster executive she is by purchasing Skype for the mind boggling $2.6 bln (which they later had to write off $1.8bln as a loss).

Meg Whitman is wrongly attributed the success of eBay. eBay was successful despite of her not thanks to her.

My, my, my, John McCain wants to name former eBay CEO Meg Whitman as secretary of the treasury. This is the woman that feed the eBay seller’s to death and when eBay bottomed out she quit. Years ago when I sold on eBay one of the promises was that eBay would come up with a health insurance program. To date no insurance, higher fees, more regulations and less sales. This is the last person that should be in charge of the nations economy.

I can say that Meg Whitman would be a very poor choice for Treasury Secretary. eBay was a successful company for many years in spite of her, and not really because of her.
