Crowd

In the latest instance of inflammatory outbursts at McCain-Palin rallies, a crowd member screamed "treason!" during an event on Tuesday after Sarah Palin accused Barack Obama of criticizing U.S. troops.

"[Obama] said, too, that our troops in Afghanistan are 'air raiding villages and killing civilians,'" Palin said, mischaracterizing a 2007 remark by Obama. "I hope Americans know that is not what our brave men and women in uniform are doing in Afghanistan. The U.S. military is fighting terrorism and protecting us and protecting our freedom."

Shortly afterward, a male member of the crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, yelled "treason!" loudly enough to be picked up by television microphones.

Here's the video:

At a McCain rally on Monday, television stations caught audio of a crowd member calling Obama a "terrorist," while Dana Milbank reported that "[o]ne Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, 'Sit down, boy.'" Also on Monday, at a Palin rally, one member of the audience yelled, "Kill him!"

During Tuesday's event, Palin continued her frontal assault on Obama's character by noting Bill Ayers after repeating a debunked lie about the Illinois Democrat's tax record that even McCain himself has stopped using.

Referencing an explanation put forward by David Axelrod on Monday -- that Obama was not aware of Ayers's past when they first met in Chicago -- Palin mocked Obama's foreign policy knowledge, saying: "And since he got called up on his plans to meet unconditionally with terror state leaders like [Iranian President] Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, will now claim that he was unaware of his radical background?"

Palin's political shot was effective with the Republican faithful, drawing a deep, collective "ooooh." As substance, it was less than edifying. Obama has repeatedly made clear that, of course, he finds Ahmadinejad's views to be "hateful and anti-Semitic," most recently on the occasion of the Iranian President's visit to the UN.

Later, in the tax policy section of her speech, Palin managed to repeat a thoroughly debunked claim about Obama's voting record that even McCain himself has stopped using.

"He voted 94 times for higher taxes. Even on middle class -- hard working everyday families across this great nation -- making $42,000 a year," she said.

As FactCheck.org noted in August, McCain's campaign originally claimed Obama voted to raise taxes on families making $32,000 a year, but have since changed their tax ads to say that Obama's vote would impact individuals making $42,000 per year -- not families as Palin repeated today. Still, FactCheck called the new McCain ad script "better, but still deceptive" -- a standard that Palin failed to meet this morning.

It is high time McCain and Palin stop stirring up their people to yell "Treason!," "Terrorist!," and "Kill him!". They are playing with fire which could well backfire on them. And if it does, then let the blood be on their hands and may they be taken to court for murder in the 1st degree.

Shame on them! Shame on them! They have become two pathetic, wretched characters. They are selling their souls in order to win an election at any cost. America does not need them to stir up further fear and anxiety on our soil. So stop it McCain and Palin! Stop it!

The real irony of all of this is that Joe Six Pack is being fully exposed as the bigoted fearful person as embodied by McCain/Palin. Wrap Joe Six Pack up in the American Flag and he/she becomes invincible - against imaginary enemies and the bogeyman that lurks in the shadows. Unfortunately for Joe Six Pack the real danger is himself - to country, to fellow citizens, and most of all, to the ideals for which this country once stood. Democracy in America has indeed descended into mob rule - what's next, the guillotine for the intelligentsia and the so-called Eastern Shore elites, and any one who graduated with a college degree from a well-ranked institution? Will they suggest re-education camps to teach us how to love America their way? Will we be brought before the Grand Inquisitor and be forced to declare the world is flat? Will we be required to spy upon one another? Will we, as Nabokov suggested, be required to "not have the ability to imagine". . .

I'm getting really scared now for Obama. Palin and McCain are just adding grease to an already simmering fire of hatred towards Barack Obama. The more negative comments they say, the more people are gonna want to do something about this so called terrorist, as one man shouted in the McCain rally. I fear for Obama'a life right now.

I agree with you. Under the Republican dictatorship of fear it would take a lot less to be thrown into jail without trial ... why is all this hate-mongering being tolerated? It was bad enough when Clinton put the idea into people's heads (thanks Hillary) but you'd think that everyone, beginning with Mr War Hero Country First, would be very quick to condemn this very dangerous trend. This country's seen only too well where this can lead. Have the insane taken over the asylum?

I've always had a concern for his security, going back to 2007. I can only hope the secret service is on top of things. I know he received security sooner than any candidate ever did, so I can hope he is safe. It does worry me. Even during that wonderful acceptance speech in Denver, I had fears during the speech. History shows that people filled with hate try to take out those who represent positive change. Let us pray for Obama's safety now and every day.

This might be the time to send an e-mail to the RNC, Palin's campaign, McCain's campaign and let them know what their "stump speeches" (chump speeches)are doing for you.

The Woods Fund (that both Ayers and Obama served as board members on) happens to be a "poverty fighting non-profit" based in Illinois with several OTHER members who have also served over the years at any given time... So by this logic of guilt by "association"... are all members of the Woods Fund "terrorists"... Should they all be hauled off to Gitmo as enemy combatants? Because it you're going to go down this road of accusing anybody who happens to have crossed paths with a terrorist (even of 40 yrs ago while you were still a child!) that is a VERY dangerous path to tread... McCarthyism anyone? Of course, that would presume that the average dimwit lemming who blindly follows these types (and would be the first lighting the torches!) even knows what that means!!!

Talk about "Un-American"... You're right about one thing Palin... he doesn't "think like you", nor do any "THINKING" American's that I know. If you want to question someone's Americanism... let's have a look at your ties to the AIP (Alaska Independence Party) shall we??? Guilt by association you say... then YOU are the "America hater" as evidenced by the speeches (and terrorist ties) of the AIP's founder ---which if you are not a member of, have clearly and "strongly" supported, as seen on video tape!!!

Forget about "glass ceilings" Gov, you should be more concerned about your own "glass house" as the stones you're throwing inevitably come crashing back through your front door!!!

Just thought I'd let everybody know that Sarah Palin dropped in on my hometown of Pensacola today and according to the local paper she said the following: "I share many of the values of people in Northwest Florida, though they are separated from Alaska by hundreds of miles." HUNDREDS of miles? I had no idea Florida and Alaska were so close. I have the link to the article on a posting to my blog located at BloggingDemocratic.blogspot.com. I'm not just trying to promote my blog, but I don't know how to put a direct link to the article in here. I thought it was a newsworthy gaffe.

Between Cindy McCain and Sara Palin, it is hard to figure who is running this pathetic camapign.
One thing is for sure, it isn't John McCain. Who can remember when this guy had an original thought?
Someone needs to muzzle McCain's airheaded cheerleader of a running mate.
She doesn't think at all. The Campaign of well worn lies continues.

Everything I have read says it was. I believe he was the Sheriff of Lee County, FL.

Here's a link to his website: http://www.sheriffleefl.org/about/sheriff.aspx

Yes, it was a police officer and he violated the Hatch Act. Contact Lee County's office as well as your Congressional reps and Senators to let them know that we will not condone this. I hope the Secret Service is also on this matter. Might as well call McCain's Senate office to register your concerns, too--he would not want to be inciting violence against a fellow US Senator, would he?
