Democrats in Florida have some reason for optimism today as the state party announced that, at the close of voter registration season on Monday, it had gained nearly 250,000 more voters this year than the Republican Party.

"Between Jan. 1, 2008 and Sept. 30, 2008, 803,909 people have registered to vote [in Florida], including 360,478 Democrats, 253,294 Independents and NPAs, and 190,137 Republicans," party communications director Eric Jotkoff wrote.

"Most striking is the net gain numbers, which factor in newly registered voters, party switchers and removes people who are no longer voters in Florida. Since January, the Florida Democratic Party has had a net gain of 415,580 voters, while the Republican Party of Florida has only gained 169,841. This shows that the gap between Democrats and Republicans in Florida has grown by 245,739 voters this year alone."

A thorough demographic breakdown of the new Florida voters registered through Sept. 30 provided to the Huffington Post showed that 149,562, or 18.6 percent of this year's new registrants are African-American. That rate runs ahead of the US Census' 2006 estimation that African Americans represent 15.8 percent of Florida's population -- perhaps revealing that the Obama campaign's attempt to register black voters at historic, potentially game-changing rates might have paid some dividends.

As the Politico's Ben Smith reported Tuesday, the Obama campaign "is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to registering African-American voters. The campaign has, for example, a major initiative aimed at turning barbershops and beauty parlors into voter registration offices."

In Florida, 82 percent of those new black voters registered as Democrats, with 15 percent identifying as independents, and only three percent marking themselves down as Republicans.

Florida Democrats almost kept pace with Republicans in the race to register 388,834 new Caucasian voters, losing out by slightly more than 14,000 individuals.

Hispanic voters accounted for 20 percent of new registrants, almost exactly in line with their share of Florida's population, according to the 2006 Census.

Meanwhile in Ohio, a spokesman from Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner's office told the Huffington Post that the state gained nearly 500,000 new voters over the course of the last nine months -- shooting from 7,676,986 voters on December 31 of last year to 8,172,229 as of last night. Ohio doesn't keep track of party or demographic information, but both state parties will surely be crunching the data ahead of "get out the vote" operations in the coming weeks.

UPDATE:

Late Tuesday afternoon, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner put out a press release touting over 600,000 new "active voters."

"Unlike the simple number of new registered voters," the statement read, "the number of active voters takes into account new registrations, changes in registration, and voters removed from the rolls under Ohio and federal law."

"We are already seeing the results of our preparation for November, with absentee voting a success across Ohio and 665,949 active voters added to the rolls. These are Ohioans from every corner of our state who can now take part in our democracy. Ohioans and, indeed the nation, can be confident that our preparation is yielding successful voting administration in 2008," Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said.

I wonder how many of those voter registrations gotten by ACORN are fraudulent?

There are probably several "Betty Crocker's" and "Jethro Tull's" and "Tiger Woods" on the list.

Let the voter fraud begin.

Very few registrations obtained by Acorn have been proved to be fraudulent, in the past ten years. False assertions from the Right do not a prosecution and conviction make. No ACORN staffers are in jail for false registrations.

As Casey Stengle said, "you could look it up".

yes, it was Luke Perry (he was born in Springfield Ohio). I live in Columbus, volunteered for the rally and he came out specifically from London to work for Obama's vote for change in Ohio

It's not good enough to barely defeat the Republicans this year. We need to annihilate them, in the Electoral College and in the Congressional races. This nation must be cleansed of the Reaganomics plague which has virtually destroyed our economy and us.

I hope the local and federal governments are watching. This is typical ACORN and other Dem groups that register names but you cannot be sure if they only register once. Of if they are citizens or they are franchised to vote. This is the Dem wild card, how much voter fraud they can create.

I hope they are watching, too. But what we really need are watchers for the watchers. I'm sure you would hate to see vote caging, machine and/or results tampering, and other nefarious election fraud tricks.

That could lead to a Republican administration and the collapse of our economy and world reputation...maybe even multiple wars with no exit strategy.

But that's a worst case scenario...

That worse case scenario is a statement of fact.

Republicans agree with Stalin -- it's not how many votes are cast, it's how many votes are counted. The Repulbicrooks will find a way not to count Democratic votes, no matter how much we fight to prevent their misdeeds. We need and overwhelming number of Democratic voters to go to the polls. We need a strong majority to repudiate failed Republicrook policies.

YAY! I knew my DH registering was a sure sign of HUGE voter turn-out! My DH NEVER votes, because of the electoral college (and I don't blame him, even though I vote)! He registered as "no party affiliation", but he's voting Obama, as far as I know! But this is so exciting! I hope this means Florida is going BLUE this year!!!

Get it through your head: OBAMA IS UNELECTABLE

No known Leftist has ever been elected President. Known leftists regularly lead in pre-election polls.

F l o r i d a, O h i o and other swing state voters, see the R o b e r t F. K e n n e d y J r. W e b site regarding the c a g i n g, p u r g i n g and a l i e n a t i o n of voters. Get the non-partisan comic book that you can bring with you to your p oll ing station. They advise that you do not mail in your vote and do not take a so-called "p r o v i s i o n a l ballot." It may end up in the trash.

I heard about this effort today on the R a n d i R h o d e s radio show.

As an American (and a white voter) I am thrilled to see African American and generally all voter registration is up. If more people voted are government would better represent the people...itr is rewally that simple (of couse that assumes that the voters don't vote against thier best interests).

apparently you don't remember 2000 in Florida Black voters names were ran against national felon list voter were disqualified on election day with no recourse or maybe 2004 in Ohio where area with large numbers of black voters and the liberal colleges had a limited number of machines with which to vote many waiting in excess of ten hours, yes elections in the USA are not always fair.

Obama is not BLACK.........he is half white and half African/Arab(not African/Black). To find African/Black in his family tree you have to go back to a great, great, great grandmother. His father's people are from Northern Africa, the Arab countries.....Eygpt. Libya, Algeria and so on.
African/Blacks are the southern parts of the country. What is really interesting is that back in the slave trading days, a lot of African/Blacks were sold into slavery by African/Arabs. Wouldn't it be sad to find out that BHO's ancestors sold into slavery the ancestor's of the truly African/Black/Americans that are voting for him.

You don't know what you're talking about. Obama's father was a Luo. Luos in Kenya are not Arabs, not by any measure. The rest of that cr*p about his ancestry is something you just made up.

I was born and grew up in subsaharan Africa. You have NO clue. Arabs in Africa (North Africans) are as light skinned as arabs in the Middle East or Europeans. We all have seen pictures of Obama's father, grandmother, step brothers and sisters in Kenya. They are all "Black Africans" - subsaharan Africans.

So, WHO do you think you can manipulate with your Fake History and lousy attempt at dividing and ruling Black People? Look at a mirror and you will see the personification of Scum.

I wonder how many of these new voters were signed up by ACORN. ACORN turned in 1800 registration cards in Washington state and 6 were found to be valid........they also turned in 35000 in Kansas City only to have 85% of them found to be trash and today the Nevada authorities raided the ACORN offices only to find out that there was nobody there, so they hauled off the records they found.
I was born and raised north of Chicago and every 2 years the standing joke was "HOW MANY DEAD DEMOCRATES ARE GOING TO VOTE THIS YEAR?". I guess this year's question out there is going to be, "HOW MANY DEAD VOTERS WILL ACORN REGISTER THIS YEAR". Cheating to win must give the Dems a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

If you people really wanted change, you'd boot all the deadbeat Democrats and republicans out of office forever.

A Florida state senator reported on the K. Olbermann show last night that Sen. McCain has announced **** he will cut Medicare benefits by $1.5 TRILLION **** and use that to help pay for his health care plan – which will provide health care for relatively few Americans. (figure mentioned was 5 million Americans. )

Sen. McCain says he will tax all health care benefits given to workers by their employers.

FYI: President Bush has already PRIVATIZED MEDICARE . The company he handed all our Medicare dollars over to is Trailblazer. He did this with no public discussions or input from the American voter.

I pray that someone asks this question tonight.

********How will you pay for your health care plan and how many Americans will receive health care because of your plan?*****

Not just Olberman... here's the WSJ reporting the same thing, noting that Mc.Cain's hushing the details. The estimated cuts are from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center.

Get the word to Florida. Warn seniors.

If Mc.Cain is elected they're going to see cuts in Medicare and Medicaid, at the same time they're watching their retirement nest eggs evaporate.

The only change Mc.C will being is spare change.
