Debate! Liveblog! Video! When you put those three things together, you get a truly magical moment in punditry. That happened last night in a downtown Manhattan apartment where seven people got together to liveblog the debate over wine, pizza, chips n' salsa, wine, cookies, carrots n' hummous, wine, triscuts n' cheese, wine and diet coke. Some people may have felt sick afterwards.
But not too sick to make like a group of undecided CNN voters and tell you what we thought of the debate! Just like Soledad O'Brien, I quizzed them on their reactions, how they felt about Barack Obama and John McCain, and whether thinking about "nailing jello to the wall" made them feel sort of squirmy. Oh, come on, with all that talk about naked aggression and carrying a big stick, we know you were thinking of it too. (Presented as proof: Soledad to a woman in her focus group: "You've been working your little dial like crazy.") It was that sort of debate.
So, without further ado, here is our own A-team panel with our equally A-team thoughts: John Carney, Glynnis MacNicol, Peter Feld, Katie Baker, Melissa Lafsky, Rex Sorgatz and me, Rachel Sklar. I think you will find this to be a highly professional production; they only got in the way of my teleprompter once.
Not present in our Downtown Den of Debate Debauchery were star livebloggers Ana Marie Cox, Henry Blodget and Keli Goff — but check out our actual presidential debate liveblog to enjoy their pearls of wisdom, too. See you next week!
