NEW YORK — Yet another band is complaining about John McCain's use of their song to promote his campaign. This time, it's the Foo Fighters.

The rockers sent out a missive telling the Republican presidential candidate to stop using "My Hero." They said they learned it was being use through news reports.

"The saddest thing about this is that `My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential," the band said in a statement. "To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song."

The band noted it's not the first time McCain has been told to stop using a song. John Mellencamp, Heart and Jackson Browne have also complained _ Browne even filed a lawsuit.

Soul legend Sam Moore also has asked the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to stop using "Soul Man."

"The McCain-Palin campaign respects copyright. Accordingly, this campaign has obtained and paid for licenses from performing rights organizations, giving us permission to play millions of different songs, including `My Hero,'" said McCain-Palin spokesman Brian Rogers.

What Toby Keith was too Toby Keith-y?

It's hysterical to me that there is no rock band (not even the ones from the ones 70's) who will attach themselves to the McCain campaign. What's that tell you?

A suggestion of some songs that the artists might be willing for McCain to use:

Running on Empty - Jacskon Browne
I'm a Loser. and Nowhere Man - The Beatles
Creep - Radiohead
War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Old Man - Neil Young
The End - The Doors

These GOP aholes have to realize that rock --or any other kind of creative music-- cannot possibly be on their side. Stick to polka, country and Lee Greenwood...

Leave Polkas out too.

I think Dennis Kucinich has the unoffical title to the Polkas via his Croatian ancestry and would protest it. Beside Polkas are for dancing and I don't think we need to see McCain attempt that. We don't need him breaking a hip in the home streach.

If you ever see Kucinich's Congressional office, there a wall with many signs honoring his ethnic roots and Polka music specifically. I don't think McCain can reach the Kucinich vote.

McCain can always play Pat Boone. Just not any songs originally done by Little Richard. McCain should really stay away from songs done by artists he obviously has never ever heard of. It makes him look even more deperate and out of touch than he already obviously is.

No one wants Palin-McSame to appropriate their songs.

They just sneak and use them then wait for the desist order from the bands..

"The McCain-Palin campaign respects copyright"

Typical! He respects the $$$ that went into buying it from some publisher's music catalog but has no respect for the wishes of the artists who created the song.

"...The McCain-Palin campaign respects copyright. Accordingly, this campaign has obtained and paid for licenses from performing rights organizations, giving us permission to play millions of different songs, including `My Hero,'" said McCain-Palin spokesman Brian Rogers..."

As long as Grohl "controls" the publishing rights to his songs he can direct the licensing use of those songs, except as "fair use".

As always, they're fighting Foo better than anybody else. The McCampaign has more Foo than we've seen in a long time.

Hey, if McCain wants to use a song with Dave Grohl's involvement, there's always the Nirvana catalog. In Utero has plenty of viable options. "All Apologies" and "Tourette's" should get his base up and moving.

--what, they joined iTunes? This is garbage. Speaking of which, why don't they play "Stupid Girl" when Palin walks out to the podium?

I love Foo Fighters, and I hate that their song is being used to promote this fraud. Has anyone heard of any artist asking Obama to stop using his or her song?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:20 AM on 10/09/2008

Instead of telling the McCain campaign to not use their work, the musicians should follow Roger Fisher's (founding member of Heart and one of the co-writers of Barracuda): Take the royalties and donate it to the Obama campaign.

If I were Jackson Browne, et al, I would go one step further: In addition to taking the royalties from McCain's campaign, I would donate to Obama's campaing in McCain's name.

I hope that after the campaigns are over (if not before), all the artists that were ripped off by Mccain sue for damages. He is worth millions and Republicans only obey the law when it starts to impact their bank account.
