Madonna Goes Off On Sarah Palin (VIDEO)

Madonna went on VP candidate "Sarah fucking Paling" at her Madison Square Garden show Monday night, saying "get that bitch out of here" to a crowd of screaming fans. She uttered a similar, less aggressive statement over the weekend. Watch the clip below, in which she also goes off on the man in the front row not paying attention and demands cheers from the audience because her ego needs it.

Surely Madonna has earned enough money to retire and spare us the disturbing vision of her face caked with makeup and her overwrought body in tights, screeching and preening. She's had 30 years in the spotlight. Now would be a good time to adopt another child (if she so wishes) and spend time with her kids.

I had an occasion to see Truth or Dare recently. Though her indefatiguable ambition and desire to give everything she's got into her performances is impressive, I would not have wanted to meet the woman in that film: vain, calculating, filled with hubris and crying out for a soul makeover. I infinitely prefer the post-maternal/post-Kabbalah Madonna instead (starting with Ray of Light). Her shows have taken on ever-greater technical innovation combined with often exhilarating choreography. The shallowness of the Blond Ambition tour, which seemed so impressive in the early 90's, cannot compare with the spiritual dimensions of her more recent work, and although she gets a lot of flak because of her affiliation with the Kabbalah Centre, there's no denying that for her it hasn't merely been a fad, and, as far as I can discern, she has become a better person as a result, keenly aware of the possibilities of her performance art as an inspiration for us to try to create a better world. Her video of The Confessions Tour is one of the most powerful concert performances you'll ever see unless you have a heart of stone. I sincerely hope the Sticky & Sweet Tour will live up to its predecessor and that those of us who see something in this woman that goes beyond being merely a pop singer will continue to be blessed by her art for years to come.
