Fired Official Contacted 36 Times By Palin And Her Staff

The Alaskan public safety commissioner fired by Sarah Palin was contacted three dozen times over 19 months by the governor and her staff, who were pressuring him to get Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper, off the force, reports the New York Times.

At one point, the commissioner Walter Monegan got a phone call from the director of Palin's Anchorage office asking that the trooper, Mike Wooten, not be assigned to work at a state fair in 2007, where he had volunteered for duty in full costume as "Safety Bear," a child-friendly mascot.

The reason provided by the gubernatorial aide was that Palin "was also planning to attend and did not want the trooper nearby."

Monegan claims that he was fired because he failed to remove Wooten, who was engaged in a brutal child custody battle with Palin's sister.

"I thought to myself, 'Man, do they have a heavy-duty network and focus on this guy,'" Monegan told the Times.

Palin's aides also discussed Wooten with Monegan's successor, Chuck Kopp during pre-employment conversations. "Is there anything you can do?" an aide asked Kopp.

The Republican base is really angry. The shouting of such negative, sick comments as kill him or terrorist is also very troubling. Some of these folk refuse to hear the facts. They just simply believe what they hear on fox news or fixxed news. I really miss Tim Russert. You know Russert would have asked Senator McCain if he thought Obama was a terrorist. We don't have a media with guts anymore.

Yesterday I receive whisper campaign email full of lies. This stuff just makes people so angry. It bring out the worst in folk. I expect the race to tighten up as people are reminded of who they are. McCain should be reminding them that they are Americans First not Republicans.

The family was so terrified of Wooten that they stalked him for photos to use against him. I don't buy Todd Palin's claim that he was protecting his family. It looks like Wooten needed protection from the vindictive Palin family.

But haven't you heard? The McCain campaign did its own investigation into all charges against Palin and the First Dud and found that they are absolutely innocent of any wrong doing!

Perhaps this is why the McCain campaign is failing so miserably... they've been busy doing a statewide investigation! Good to know they focus on justice and not on negative campaigning.

This is not about domestic violence. This is about abuse of power. Sarah and Todd Palin orchestrated a campaign of intimidation and harassment of Monegan, ultimately firing him when he didn't do what they wanted.

Todd Palin did more than just sit in at the office.

He actually called Monegan and had him report to the Anchorage office for a meeting about the trooper. Why was a civilian calling meetings with a commissioner from a government facility?
