Palin Cover Saga

So, have you seen the cover of this week's Newsweek, with vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin in extreme close-up, revealing that the GOP's latest celebrity actually ages, and has slight wrinkles, like us mortals? Yeah, well, the good folks at Fox News aren't having any of it! The fact that this image was shot in this way, without an eye toward touching the image up digitally, is unfair. This morning, they gave this issue - that will help many of you decide how to vote, no doubt! - a thorough going-over. They even called in outside experts to discuss photoshop and alterations!

The overall message seems to be that the failure to alter a picture is a clear demonstration of liberal bias. How ironic! Because there was never a need to ask for outside opinion on this matter. As Jane Hamsher notes, Fox News has plenty of in-house expertise on how digital image alteration can help provide conservative "balance." Or have you forgotten:

On the July 2 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade labeled New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe "attack dogs," claiming that Steinberg's June 28 article on the "ominous trend" in Fox News' ratings was a "hit piece." During the segment, however, Fox News featured photos of Steinberg and Reddicliffe that appeared to have been digitally altered -- the journalists' teeth had been yellowed, their facial features exaggerated, and portions of Reddicliffe's hair moved further back on his head. Fox News gave no indication that the photos had been altered.

After putting up the photos of Steinberg and Reddicliffe, Fox & Friends also featured a photograph of Steinberg's face superimposed over that of a poodle, while Reddicliffe's face was superimposed over that of the man holding the poodle's leash.

Insert "lipstick on a pig" joke here, I guess!

I got that copy at the airport. The cover is awesome! She is a pretty face covering up ugly, hateful politics. This closeup shows the human flaws that we all have, and takes away the pretty mask that TV shows.

Maybe I'm crazy but I thought that cover was impressive. It made her look sweepingly beautiful. She looked like JFK, or RFK. She looked Iconic. It was a pose like the one of JFK with his arms crossed looking down pondering the burdens of command. But what do I know, I'll let the fools over at Fox Noise tell me what to think, NOT!

I guess those beach blond 20 somethings over at fox think that picture showing Sarah's wrinkles is offensive. No problem, once you turn thirty you'll get some, but again no worries, Fox will fire you and replace you with some one younger and perkier.

Fox blows. I'm going enjoy watching those smirks disappear from their slimy faces when Obama wins.

I hope Jon Stewart was watching. I'd love to see his take on it. It was one of the funniest clips I've ever seen.

Fox news is a very strange, surreal world of rabid disconnects. They touchup the photos of journalists who dare to say their ratings are in decline to make the journalists look like terrorists. Then they rail at the "liberal press" for not cosmetically touching up a photo of Palin. And they spend hours talking about this stuff!! They cherish the feeling of being persecuted even though until recently conservatives held all branches of government. A trillion dollars in wealth vanishes in one week on the stock market and Fox has been fixated on the pretend Obama relationship with former Weatherman Bill Ayers all week. If one enters the strange world of Fox it is difficult to ever escape to normality, as many of the conservatives who post here illustate. Right now on Fox they are wondering if Palin is being "picked on" because she was found to have abused her power in the recent troopergate scandal. Everyday is halloween on Fox.

Halloween, could be. I was thinking April Fool's Day (they being the fools, though).

Well, i would not let the Fox news audience off that easily. They obviously do not want to hear the truth, rather they prefer misleading jingoism.

I saw some politcal pundit complaining about this on CNN last night, her arguments were laughable for sure! I'm sorry Sarah can't have it both ways. She wants to be one of the "every day" people. Well every day women can't afford regular facials, plastic surgery and such so we have wrinkles, whiteheads, blackheads, etc. Nor are our pictures retouched on our driver's licenses even though we have to show them to strange after stranger. To steal John Stossel's line... give me a break....

Yet , what about Time Magazine's with the whole Obama's family dressed like militants that was ok...

Like the irony of calling that organization Fox News isn't enough.I am laughing here at home I promise you.Heck they should just call it the irony channel.

I know I shouldn't be laughing at all.Our situation is too serious.But I can't help it.

Just the notion that a magazine cover is important enough to warrant hours and hours of discussion when things are going to hell in a hurry is appalling.

Maybe Newsweek should have put more lipstick on her.

Newsweek should have put a pig snout on her face....but then again......maybe nobody would have noticed the difference! Palin supporters should actually CELEBRATE her being on the cover of Newsweek....it may be her last...I hope.
