Why

Greg Sargent noted on Wednesday how the McCain campaign seems to want it both ways when it comes to using William Ayers as a campaign issue. After suggesting that it was "off the table" and that it couldn't compete with economic issues, the campaign has dispatched Sarah Palin to make repeated references to Ayers.

Now it appears, however, that the campaign is coming down firmly on the "pro" side of whether or not to use Ayers as an issue -- with the release of a 90-second ad titled, simply, "Ayers." Produced exclusively for the web, it appears designed to fight with the economic crisis for cable news coverage.

Somewhat humorously, the new web ad tries to make the case that "Ayers isn't the issue," but rather Obama's honesty in describing Ayers as someone from his neighborhood.

"When their relationship became an issue, Obama just responded, "This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood.'," the ad notes, before asking, incredulously: "That's it?"

At the spot's close, it repeats the charge that Obama has somehow only ever described Ayers as someone from his neighborhood. "When Obama just says, 'This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood.' Americans say, 'Where's the truth, Barack?'"

Well, as it happens, the "neighborhood" line was not all Obama said about Ayers at the time of the quote used in McCain's new ad. In response to a question from ABC News' George Stephanopolous, Obama described Ayers's past acts as "detestable" in almost the same breath.

Help me take the fight to McCain. Let's turn a negative into a positive by turning one of McCain's --- well, let's give him the benefit of the doubt and call it a "gaffe" --- into a positive slogan for Obama:

This one is voting for THAT ONE!

A portion of any proceeds will go to the Obama campaign or the Democratic National Convention.

This is very, very good. Hope somebody picks it up and gets it into TV circulation. Everybody who blogs has easy access to this stuff, but millions still have no idea what's out here in the virtual world.

I was listning on Wright and the famous cermon, i didnt think he said anything real wrong, he was just using some strong words to make a point that something is wrong.

I am not a very religous man, so i would prob felt abit of if i had been there as a white none religous person but the point was valid and he put it hammered it in with a sledgehammer in the ppl that listen on the whoel cermon.

And if we shall take up weird priets so must i say Thomas Muthee is more creepy, how oculd a local Kenyan Priest and witchunter get so much influnse so he can influense a VP candidate of USA.

Agreed. As I was reading this, the stocks went below 9000. Like many my age, I remember the Weathermen Underground and was in class with some who declared their allegiance to them. Old news. Who cares. I forgot about them when I threw away my last pair of bell bottoms. We boomers are watching our retirement savings slip away and all the GOP wants to do is try and distract us with the old news that Ayers and Obama were once on the same education committee.

i thought talking head Nicole Wallace said no one cares about Ayers, they only care about the economy. Do these guys talk to each other? Is there an actual strategy? Who's running the campaign? McCain campaign, have a meeting and make a decision.

I love how they make an entire commercial about Obama's relationship with Ayers and then say "but it's not that important" and then go right back to the trough.

If McCain is showing such an obvious sign of desperation this far out from Nov 4th, what is yet to come?

I bet 90% of the mccain supporters who invoke this nonsense didn't even know that ayers is white.

I bet over 90% of supporters could care less about what the Professor did 40 years ago when Obama was eight years old. And I am sure they ask the question, Ayers is a terrorist, why is the "dangerous" professor teaching our kids?

Absolute hogwash gbkc. I can hardly wait for Nov 4 to get these people off TV.

Go Obama/Biden/We the People 08

Ayers is a college professor and an expert on educational policy. Chicago rewarded him citizen of the year in 1997. The political elite in Chicago, which includes conservatives and republicans, have embraced him. Obama have declared that he finds Ayers actions 40 years back, when Obama was 8 years old, despicable. No one can prove any deeper relationship between them. Does this matter for people who are determined to think bad of Obama? Of course not. They have among other things been feed by Hannity and his so called documentary about Obamas "radicalism", which is based on the outrageous statements of Andy Martin, a lunatic and anti-semite, and the person who initiated the false rumour that Obama was really a muslim, something that millions of people now believe due to Fox who have spread it without caring if it's true or not b/c the don't want Obama to be president.

Personally, I don't see any problem with a person being a secessionist. This government was instituted as a voluntary republic, which clearly implies that the states, as well as groups of individuals, were free to leave when the government no longer acted in their interest. Anything less reduces you to chattel (property that is owned, and without inherent rights), which is a condition in which the terms 'liberty' and 'freedom' have no relevance. If you are inferring that secession is an excuse for, or synonymous with random violence, I only have to point to the reaction of the Federal government in attacking the Southern states that seceded to form the Confederacy, an act that was both implicit and legal in terms of the Constitution.
If you want to pick apart anything Sarah Palin says, you dont really have to work that hard, as she is likely to contradict herself before she has gone more than an additional sentence or two.
On a more humorous note, I was thinking of writing a macro,or defining a paragraph style that would inject random "By Gollys...", "Don'cha Knows...", and "By Jeezums..." into my writing.....just to 'Palin-ize' some of my avowedly Republican friends.
