MSNBC:

I tried to get in touch via Facebook with Oliver Clark, the man who McCain said probably didn't know what Fannie Mae was before the financial crisis (at Tuesday's debate). Apparently others have done the same. He just posted the following on his Facebook page:

How did I feel about Sen. McCain stating "You probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this."
Well Senator, I actually did. I like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent person. I have a bachelor degree in Political Science from Tennessee State, so I try to keep myself up to date with current affairs. I have a Master degree in Legal Studies from Southern Illinois University, a few years in law school, and I am currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration from the University of Memphis. In defense of the Senator from Arizona I would say he is an older guy, and may have made an underestimation of my age. Honest mistake. However, it could be because I am a young African-American male. Whatever the case may be it was somewhat condescending regardless of my age to make an assumption regarding whether I was knowledgeable about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

It's a typical Republican technique to project your weaknesses onto others.

Once again, McCain puts his foot into his mouth. I wonder if he's checking to see whether or not he can eat his shoes should he ever need to?
Anyway-it MAY have been a 'cosmic coincidence' that a black person was asking that question. It DID cause me to wonder what the response would have been IF it had been an 'average WHITE GUY asking the same. You see, McCain actually seems to BELIEVE that lots of good decent Black folks were duped into getting mortgages they couldn't afford at rates they couldn't keep by the 'machinations' of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Sooo-he innocently (?) made a gaffe by assuming that Oliver had never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac until the current crisis started. Believe me, McCain does NOT like the fact that millions of MINORITY families and individuals were able to get homes through Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. No, no, NOOOO! He believes the exact OPPOSITE, ESPECIALLY when the minority families/individuals were the FIRST to start losing their mortgages, and thus leading to the devaluation of their (White) neighbor's houses. McCain has done everything he can to point to MINORITIES as being the CAUSE of the current economic crisis, much like Adolf Hitler did with the Jews, both in Germany and internationally. And--since this crisis is INTERNATIONAL IN SCOPE---LOOK OUT MINORITIES!! You are about to be SCAPEGOATED BIG TIME! (oops! You already are!)

This is the best. Thanks for letting us know. How dreadful. I have no doubt McCain underestmated your intelligence, interest and abilities because you are an African-American male. Much like he does with Obama.

When I saw McCain start to answer that question, I immediatly thought- What a condescending way to respond. McCain is so out of touch with reality that he is NOT functioning. He is not leading his campaign - It's flailing and stewing in bigotry.

McCain has driven the last nails in the coffin of the GOP and left a legacy of anger, hate, and dishonor.

Look who he selected as VP ... I truly question his intelligence!?

The Alaskan Supreme Ct. has upheld Troopergate investigators ... Palin's reThug lawyer"s frivolous appeal has failed! The investigators may issue their findings tomorrow!!

I wouldn't use Iraq as an analogy. Were pouring billions of dollars in their country ( a lot going to contracting companies though) and they are seating on a surplus while we are in a recession sliding into a depression.

I don't know about the rest of you but I think McCain has heard of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but still has no idea of their economic importance. This is the guy who probably thinks the economy is still sound after our 401k balances have dropped down like a lead ballon.

Remember, this is McCain at his supposed best! Take this, the repeated "my friends" phrase, plus the story of McCain blowing a gasket when someone touched his arm while gambling with "Don't touch me!" and "Do you know who I am?!" and there is a loud and clear picture of an arrogant, condescending, 'I'm better than you' attitude. This is a man that is NOT going to be supportive of the middle or lower class regardless of the campaign rhetoric. This is a man that sees only his wealthy peers as being of value. This is a man, that should he be president, would govern only for the wealthy. ENOUGH!

The fact that Republicans favour deregulation more than Democratsand that deregulation (taking a way the Government's power to make sure nothing untoward such as greed goes on in these banks) doesn't that make them more guilty and so mean that John McCain and his cronies shouldn't ever be elected to Government again?

To those that disagree, can't I plead for the United States: we are going through the most difficult economic woes in history and what right do Republicans have to say they aren't responsible for all this greed and neglect??? People are losing their homes and jobs. Don't we owe these fine Americans that are going through tough times never to be put in the hands of the Republicans who caused this mess in the first place???

Everyone... the way you feel now, channel it to something more than comments. Get five other people to vote for Obama, send emails to your whole contact lists, even if it is under an anonymous email account if you fear some type of reprisal for your views. And MOST OF ALL, BE SURE TO VOTE! I can see many people thinking this in the bag now, and that you can just sit back and relax. That will lose the election. The next 26 days are the most critical. Get more people on board, take nothing for granted, or we will lose without a doubt.
