Michelle Obama Makes Daily Show Appearance

Smiling but showing the wear of the past twenty months of campaigning, Michelle Obama made an appearance on The Daily Show last night, where Jon Stewart immediately remarked on how strange it was that after such a long campaign and such thorough public vetting, "This woman from Alaska, Sarah Palin, wants to know who you are."

Stewart asked, "Do you ever think to yourself...who are you?" "That does cross your mind," replied Obama.

The two discussed the growing intensity of the campaign rhetoric, centering on Barack Obama's past. Michelle Obama noted that the grueling primary process had already brought thorough scrutiny, and more or less confirmed that they would not be going on "family ski vacation" with Bill Ayers. Though who knows, maybe if Bill Ayers had gotten involved in some healthy activities as a young man, no one would be worried about this stuff today.

Obama confessed that she's tuned out some of the media conversation, saying, "I've stopped reading and watching a lot of stuff." "So you are a lot like Sarah Palin," Stewart joked. But Sarah Palin reads everything! All the newspapers! Crazy McCain oppo! Starbucks coffee cups! She's like a Roomba for the "verbage."

Actually, in Palin's defense, Michelle Obama mispronounces the word "pundit," as well.

Obama went on to say that she enjoyed the debate, despite the pressure of having to make a Daily Show appearance. "He very clearly believes you observe him with an objective eye," Stewart prompted. Obama replied, "I put myself in the position of a voter, and I tell him, if I don't believe you, I'm not voting for you, buddy." But, lest you think there's some fence-sitting, she did declare herself to be an "Obama momma."

Michelle Obama also tamped down the notion that there's any sort of personal friction between the candidates and their families. "I think some of that gets overanalyzed...we don't have time for long conversations, but [Cindy McCain is] very cordial...we have to be careful about all of this, because some of it is theater. And the reality is, Barack has tremendous respect for Senator McCain."

I have to admit, I was not enamored of Michelle Obama at first. Then came Palin, then Cindy McCain, and then, of course, there's Laura Bush. Michelle Obama is a breath of fresh air, to say the least. I think she'll grow in her role as First Lady beautifully.

Let's start with DEDICATION and FORTITUDE!

Biden's dedication to his son's after the tragedy of loosing his wife and daughter is very admirable.

Barack's determination and strength deal with a campaign that has taken him, a Black Man, into ares where NO black man has been before in the US ever. To maintain a calm and class in the face of the death threats, racial slurs and politics, lies, slander and distortion of who he is true fortitude.

Real men in the White House is what we need for a time such as this.

As I listen to her, Mrs. Obama, speak all I could think is god I love this woman... not like the redumblicans like their moose girl (lust). However, because of her intelligence, poise and caring manner. Yes this is the kind of woman that ANY man would be PROUD to say this is my WIFE and the MOTHER of my children.

My wife refers to Mrs. Obama as a real mommy, any woman can become a mother but ONLY a caring, nurturing, and loving woman is a mommy. I don't see the mommy in moose girl, I see an opportunistic air head willing to DO ANYTHING to be seen as a important. It's not even about power with moose girl it's all about the image.

Hang in there Mrs. Obama, a nation of people are working to send you and Barack into the White House to help bring our nation back to REALITY and civility and the greatness that is the United States of America. God bless the Obama's with continued wisdom, love and strenth and bless our nation with them to become our next first family.

This woman is remarkable. Compare her to Cindy (Pill Popping) McCain! Though the McCain's are rich in finance, the Obama's are rich in intellect, class and humility. This woman hold her own on all levels. She is a great compliment to him, as he is to her. I believe the jealousy and envy of the McCain's and others merely compliment the Obama's. These people have it together, period! I would like to see a debate of potential 'First Ladies'. Obama 2008 and 2012!!!!!!

The main difference between the McCains and the Obamas is that whereas the McCains give you the distinct impression they have a divine right to rule, the Obamas give you the impression they have to work hard to earn it - and working hard is precisely what they have been doing all their lives. Excellent point. After the recent debate, I was struck by what I saw: Cindy standing separate (and aloof?) as Michelle and Barack worked the room. Michelle started talking to people immediately after the obligatory PDA for the cameras whereas, Cindy tiptoed out a few minutes later.
