Michelle Obama Makes Daily Show Appearance

Smiling but showing the wear of the past twenty months of campaigning, Michelle Obama made an appearance on The Daily Show last night, where Jon Stewart immediately remarked on how strange it was that after such a long campaign and such thorough public vetting, "This woman from Alaska, Sarah Palin, wants to know who you are."

Stewart asked, "Do you ever think to yourself...who are you?" "That does cross your mind," replied Obama.

The two discussed the growing intensity of the campaign rhetoric, centering on Barack Obama's past. Michelle Obama noted that the grueling primary process had already brought thorough scrutiny, and more or less confirmed that they would not be going on "family ski vacation" with Bill Ayers. Though who knows, maybe if Bill Ayers had gotten involved in some healthy activities as a young man, no one would be worried about this stuff today.

Obama confessed that she's tuned out some of the media conversation, saying, "I've stopped reading and watching a lot of stuff." "So you are a lot like Sarah Palin," Stewart joked. But Sarah Palin reads everything! All the newspapers! Crazy McCain oppo! Starbucks coffee cups! She's like a Roomba for the "verbage."

Actually, in Palin's defense, Michelle Obama mispronounces the word "pundit," as well.

Obama went on to say that she enjoyed the debate, despite the pressure of having to make a Daily Show appearance. "He very clearly believes you observe him with an objective eye," Stewart prompted. Obama replied, "I put myself in the position of a voter, and I tell him, if I don't believe you, I'm not voting for you, buddy." But, lest you think there's some fence-sitting, she did declare herself to be an "Obama momma."

Michelle Obama also tamped down the notion that there's any sort of personal friction between the candidates and their families. "I think some of that gets overanalyzed...we don't have time for long conversations, but [Cindy McCain is] very cordial...we have to be careful about all of this, because some of it is theater. And the reality is, Barack has tremendous respect for Senator McCain."

Michelle was her usual eloquent, confident, poised and brilliant self during that interview.

Where did you hear pundit mispronounced? Even if it were that would fall under a human gaffe as opposed to walking, talking, cluelessness wrapped up in one long continuous blunder like Cindy and Sarah always manage to pull off.

We wish that it was just a simple gaffe rather than a true fact that they both believe that seeing Russia from Alaska was a qualification in foreign policy.

She looks fine. He needs to review Palin and Cindy's tired looks before he criticizes Michelle. Someone who really has been on the campaign trail for 2 years as opposed to 5 weeks and without scurrying behind her husband at 10 paces holding her hands in front of her in her imitation of an American geisha, with appropriate lowereing of the eyes in fear of looking at people in the eye.

In today's latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking report Barack Obama STILL holds an 11-point lead over John McCain, 52% to 41%. This is 2 days in a row and remains Obama’s highest level of support to date, and also represents his largest lead of the campaign.

Palin only has an undergrad degree, no thesis required. But can you imagine how much effort it would take to find anything she'd written, and how funny it would be to read it.

I watched Michelle on both Jon's show and Larry King and she was her usual best. She is a pure and honest woman who would go to the mat for her family and is. I doubt anyone can see her and not see that. But as with Obama the man too many people call her to question not for who see is and where she came from it's the belief they "now" because she came from a era of much anger and people rioting that she is angry and hateful at some level, "because she is black" and is a "black woman". The stereotype they hold is what they want to see and with the amount of hate and anger they want to believe should be attached to her. But they don't see and will not see the real Michelle as the McCain camp is so full of hatred now they can only see and show people through that.

I watched Michelle Obama’s interview on Larry King last night – and she was REMARKABLY poised in her replies to queries from LK about her reaction to the recent and appalling verbal attacks on her husband from the McCain camp. Her answers were thoughtful, articulate, and imbued with a sense of grace and intelligence that were truly moving in the sincerity and ease of their delivery. A class act all the way, a true partner to her husband, and yet another reason (as if there aren't already enough) to elect him president next month. As a Canadian, she can't be my first lady, but I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for her.
