ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Trying to head off a potentially embarrassing state ethics report on GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report Thursday that clears her of any wrongdoing.

Sen. John McCain's running mate is the subject of a legislative investigation into whether she abused her power as governor by firing her public safety commissioner. The commissioner, Walter Monegan, says he was dismissed in July for resisting pressure from Palin's husband, Todd Palin, and numerous top aides to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, Palin's former brother-in-law.

Lawmakers are expected to release their own findings Friday. Campaign officials have yet to see that report _ the result of an investigation that began before she was tapped as McCain's running mate _ but said the investigation has falsely portrayed a legitimate policy dispute between a governor and her commissioner as something inappropriate.

"The following document will prove Walt Monegan's dismissal was a result of his insubordination and budgetary clashes with Governor Palin and her administration," campaign officials wrote. "Trooper Wooten is a separate issue."

Monegan said Thursday that he doesn't know what to expect from the legislative panel's own report.

"I just hope that the truth is figured out," Monegan told The Associated Press on Thursday. "That the governor did want me to fire him, and I chose to not. You just can't walk up to someone and say, 'I fire you.' He didn't do anything under my watch to result in termination."

Palin's critics say that shows she used her office to settle family affairs.

"When you're the governor, you leave your household hat at home and you become governor," said state Senate President Lyda Green, a Republican who has frequently clashed with Palin.

The campaign's report instead blames former campaign opponent, Andrew Halcro, who has a blog, of conspiring with Wooten to pin Monegan's dismissal on the family's dispute with Wooten. Three days after Monegan was fired, they say, Wooten told his ex-wife, Palin's sister, that: "You guys are going down. Get ready for the show."

Two days after that confrontation, they say, Halcro and Wooten met at a hotel bar in Anchorage for more than three hours _ and that evening, Halcro posted the first accusations on his blog that Monegan had been fired because of a vendetta against Wooten by the Palin family.

"It is tragic that a false story hatched by a blogger after drinks with Trooper Wooten led the legislature to allocate over $100,000 of public money to be spent in what has become a politically driven investigation," the 21-page report concludes.

Although the report describes Wooten as a separate issue, the McCain campaign goes into great detail about the "rogue" trooper and his "long history of unstable and erratic behavior." The campaign describes allegations of violence, including threatening Palin's family and shooting his stepson with a stun gun.

The report also includes allegations that Wooten cheated the workers' compensation system. Todd Palin has said he had numerous conversations with government officials about why Wooten was allowed to stay on the job.

"The Palins make no apologies for wanting to protect their family and wanting to bring attention to the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge and abusing the workers' compensation system."

But Todd Palin said he never pressured anyone, including his wife.

The McCain campaign says the investigation has become "muddied with innuendo, rumor and partisan politics."

You mean I can commit a crime and declare myself innocent? That's Hot!

Being a Republican means never having to say I'm sorry!

It's always satisfying to read these posts and see I'm not the only one who "gets" Palin.

She's an aggressive opportunist who puts nothing ahead of her own advancement. Now we're seeing that her husband is right there, backing her up.

I want to say this, though. If you really dislike Palin, and like me, fear the possibility of her becoming our vice-president, we all really need to do more than express ourselves on these boards. We are essentially "preaching to the choir" here. We all agree, and we're wasting a lot of good time saying it.

I volunteer at the Obama headquarters, and believe me, it's a lot better use of my time than sitting here at my computer. There are a lot of things to do, and it all helps.

We're running out of time, and McCain is stepping up his lies. Know this: Many people will believe them. We HAVE to counter the lies, we HAVE to spread the word.

Just for the heck of it, look up your local Obama office and ask them what you can do. Just think, if you help one person see the truth, you'll double your vote. More? Triple. Quadruple.

It works, and the Republicans are doing it right now.

McCain Matches Wall Street Corruption and Fake Justification for War in Iraq

McCAIN MATCHED “WALL STREET CORRUPTION IN HIS POLITICAL CAMPAIGN” BY PULLING A “TRICK” WHICH WALL STREET OF LAST YEAR WOULD BE PROUD!
HIS MOVE ALSO ECHOS BACK TO THE "FALSE JUSTIFICATION FOR ENTERING IRAQ!"

When McCain heard that the Alaska Sureme Court denied the Delay he wanted and knowing that the Alaska Congress is releasing an “Authorized Misuse of Power Investigation Report by a Respected Investigator,” McCain pulls a “TRICK” out of the “Wall Street Hat of Tricks.” No it was not "naked shorts" of "excessive leveraging" or combining "risky loans into "AAA" paper!

McCain had a Bogus Unauthorized Report manufactured which echos back to the Manufactured Justification for Going into Iraq by Bush/Cheney.

So this smacks of both the Current Corruption on Wall Street and the Corruption in the Bush Administration related to “Faking the Need for a War in Iraq stating Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction.”

This brings McCain/Palin into the middle of the Corruption that McCain says he is trying to FIGHT and ELIMINATE!

This will further convince the AMERICAN PEOPLE he is UNFIT to Lead!

McCain could have been free of a VP candidate who is clearly pulling his campaign down and put in FRESH BLOOD!

But instead he decides to jump in the middle of this "Misuse of Power Findings" with both feet and make himself part of the dishonesty!

One has to wonder why Todd gets CC: on Alaskan official business. Do we want him as an unelected entity with access to national matters?

Sheesh. I'm glad they finally cleared that up. Now, let's appoint the management of AIG, Lehman and Bear to investigate the economic meltdown. Oh...and Gonzo can investigate the DOJ firings. And Rummy and Cheney can clear up the WMD mess. And...

McCain clearly has a crystal ball. First he declared himself the winner of the debate before it happened. Now he's "foreseeing" the outcome of the Palin investigation. Maybe his crystal ball already showed him the outcome of this election...and THAT'S why he's been so darn cranky.

- What makes Sarah Palin an energy expert? Isn't she basically an oil sales person? Alaska does not deal with the energy issues across the country or the world.

- Is there a security issue if Sarah Palin became the VP, with her husband tagged the "shadow governor"? Elected officials at that level need to exercise a much higher level of discretion with confidential information.

We all know that Sarah is not... how to say this graciously?... a Rhodes Scholar. Exercising her brain cells is not one of her passions (why do something hard when you can have fun shooting wolves from an aircraft?).

So, perhaps it is good ole Todd that is the puppet master. Something akin to Edith Wilson's role when President Woodrow Wilson was incapacitated by a stroke in 1919. Seems at least plausible. Isn't Sarah's lack of intelligence a serious form of incapacitation?

Conservative columnist David Brooks recently took a shot at the Republican party, particularly Palin. He expressed doubts this week about Palin's readiness to serve as vice president. What's more, he said the Alaska governor "represents a fatal cancer to the Republican Party."

"Do I think she's ready to be president or vice president? No, she's not even close to that," he said.

The problem with a smear is the more people you try to cover with it, the thinner it gets.

Any fool is going to see through the McCain/Palin lies.

Well personally I could care less what McCain's staff has said so far most things that come from that group has been lies and smears. So why would I trust them a this point? Hopefully the truth will be out tomorrow and then we will certainly know, one way or the other, but if it is negative what does that mean? Will we hear the spin form the McCain's group as how it was unfair and political even though the majority on the panel are republican. I mean will we ever have a situation that somehow a person does something and is held accountable for their actions? Obviously we have no ability to do so, look at Bush and Cheney, they both violated the law and bent it considerably and they will be out of Office come January to be free to do as they damn well please.

Yes let's look at Cheney (if we can) who's seen him in 8 years? What has he done for or about anything ? Can someone please explain the man's purpose other than him going back and forth to the Hospital . This is the only time I've seen him.
