Cindy McCain Kept Keating Partnership After Scandal

Washington Independent:

Sen. John McCain's wife and father-in-law continued a lucrative business partnership with disgraced financier Charles H. Keating Jr. for 11 years after the GOP presidential nominee said he ended his close friendship with Keating in March 1987.

Cindy McCain's business partnership with Keating in a real-estate development between 1986 and 1998 netted her a tidy profit, in addition to years of significant tax benefits. Her father, who died in 2000, earned similar returns.

What I don't get is while the McCain Camp constantly brings up Obama and Bill Ayers, Ayers who was a radical when Obama was about eight and now is a respected professor, they play down the connection McCain had or may even still have, to Charles Keating. Keating, a convicted felon found responsible for playing a large role in the large mortgage scandal in the eighties, wined and dined the McCain's, gave a lot of money to McCain's campaign and Cindy McCain even had business dealings with him AFTER the scandal came to light. So McCain, was not only "paling around" as Palin would put it, but supportive of Keating, during the time Keating was bilking people.

Maybe if Cindy's wealth were from a company that distributed yogurt, another fermentation processed food, she may have had better instincts. Associations that the GOP is trying so hard to push through as the dominant issue of character just blew it back in their face. The control of money and power is what the election is about. Those of us who work with no improvement in our lives for the past eight years should recognize that our hard work only elevates the McCains and their ilk.
