The global financial meltdown has caused a dramatic shift in the 2008 presidential race, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. With four weeks left in the presidential campaign, Barack Obama now leads John McCain by double digits, 52 percent to 41 percent among registered voters--a marked shift from the last NEWSWEEK poll, conducted one month ago, when the two candidates were tied at 46 percent.

Underlying Obama's surge in support: An historic boiling over of dissatisfaction with the status quo. An astounding 86 percent of voters now say they are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States, while a mere 10 percent say they are satisfied. That's the highest wrong track/right track ratio ever recorded in the NEWSWEEK poll.

I would trust the Rasmussen and Gallup tracking polls way more than the Newsweek poll. They show Obama up by 6-7 points, which is fine. Clearest information on the state of the race can be found at realclearpolitics.com and 538.com.

Debates have helped 0bama a lot not just the economy. People looked at the overall package and started to move towards 0bama.

Isn't it a shame that this country only gets behind Democrats when our country has been broken by the Republicans. They did it in 1992 and are on the verge of doing it again this year. I hope this pattern stops. The GOP screws everything up in this country and then the Democrats fix it. Instead of keeping them in power after they fix things (like in 2000), they elect another Republican administration to screw things up again. This vicious cycle has to stop.

I've been thinking the same thing. Knowing Obama, I'm sure (and I hope) that he has a plan to get them out and keep them out.

WE CAN NOT LET UP ON THE PACE. WE MUST COME OUT IN RECORD NUMBERS AND GET PEOPLE OUT TO VOTE FOR THE OBAMA/BIDDEN TICKET.

WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF BU$H POLICIES. LOOK AT THE AFFECTS:
THE ECONOMY IS IN CRISIS,
THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN IS GETTING WORSE,
WHERE'S BIN LADEN? - STILL HANGING OUT IN TORAH BORAH THANKS TO THE BUSH-CHANEY CLOWNS.
THEIR (REPUBLICAN) VP IS AN UN-ETHICAL GOVERNOR AND UN-FIT TO SERVE,
MCCAIN IS THE SAME AS BUSH, ONLY ANGRIER AND MORE DRIVEN FOR WAR.

AND NOW THE REPUBLICANS ARE ISSUELESS SO THEY STOOP TO PERSONAL ATTACKS.

GET OUR PEOPLE OUT TO THE POLLS ! ! ! ! !

McCain's choice of a female who is now shown to abuse powers at the highest level of state governemnt reveals his nature as the greatest political risk in American national political history.

I think that the CNN poll is good they take 3 major polling results. That reporter King is a master watch him evaluate.

HEY everyone which is the best poll, I want to know the most reliable source!!

Don't rely on poll please. They are not a true picture of where the candidates stand. Some lean heavy republican voters, some lean Democratic. Any voter who doesn't have a landline phone anymore does not get polled.

Just show up on Nov 4th and vote.

None of them. That is just the nature of statistics. However, some of the meta-polling out there gets you a bit closer to the truth of the situation.

Polls are unreliable if they are within the margin of error.

But if a candidate, like Obama, bolts forward with a double digit lead, it is relatively safe to trust the polls.
